I love the words to this song! Notice how so many old school songs had beautiful & loving lyrics versus pure sexually lyrically based lyrics that you hear in alot of today's music!
ahhh 80,s videos the acting is so bad that you actually love it..... and the video actually matches the song... next to alexander o neals "if you were here tonite" this is perfect..lol
What happened to R&B like this? I remember this coming out while I was in college in the 80s. Too bad. Most of these young people don't know what a real jam is.
This is another 80's Classic Soul masterpiece I 1st heard on The Quiet Storm, KBLX, 102.9, Oakland, CA. Style & class like this never gets old. GBY, Eugene! Wolfsky
I love a man who can sing a song telling a woman how feels without having to call her a bitch or ho in the process. Love ya, Eugene! PLEASE come back to us and don't say no!!
I will always go back to those days. This stuff they call music is NOT MUSIC. Mr.Wilde is awesome love his music those had to be the best of times. Take me back and get rid of this new so call R&B now this is strickly R&B,
Use to love this song. Touch my heart. Eugene Wilde hag a way of making you feel good with his music. Wish he was still around...Ron Broomfield was AWESOME!!!!!!!! Old School !!!!
the video is looks a lil' wired... Can you post a better one at some point. that would be really nice. I did rate and made it a fave Just thought I would ask...can't hurt right???.
@EgoTrip38 Sweetie thanks for posting this video - he's one of my Favs from back in the day..understand about the quality and I know how difficult it is to find these treasures around anymore..
This 1985 R&B track is one of the better ones of the year, and it's arguably one of the best from the 80's, the melody is enchanting, it's perfect, with excellent musical arrangements, and his smooth, soulfoul vocals, nice video too, haven't seen it in a very long time, probably since the 80's, this is music, quality 80's music that is.
I'm with you, I couldn't have said it better myself. It seems songs and voices like this is almost gone from the R&B pop world. I have a hard time grabbing the heart of songs due to the fact they simply really lack true soul. I have tried to get into them at times but the songs and lyrics don't really leave you guessing and wanting more. For the most part I turn them off. Just too much junk. I know It's not because I'm older. I have truly noticed more R&b junk out there.
yeah, so true. back in the day, i knew guy had a nice voice; but compared to today's singers, his voice sounds like one of the greatest ever! Really nice song.
My favorite part of the video and the song is when he is walking up to her photo shoot on the both. A very climated moment. I love that part of the song.
After all these years, I still can't understand what he's saying in the 1st verse before..."Don't sayyyy nooo toniiiight". lol i just make up my own words. then all of a sudden, 2nd verse is crystal clear.
Good Jam, im glad i grew up in the 80's ..summers of 85-86 were the best in my life..hanged out with all my High School buds at the beach, cruisin the blvd, barbques..good times that will never happend but only the memories are printed in our heart and soul ..thanks for the post
ME TOO! Daddy serenading Mama...Priceless. Sweet Memories.
I wish more of our kids today could say that they're growing up in that type of atmosphere. Too many of our kids are growing up in single-family homes with no idea of the type of foundation a two-loving parent household could bring.
This is music for that time! You don't hear music like this anymore, or see families in our community like the ones me and you obviously had.
I love that within the first few notes, you can instantly recognize that 80's slow-jam rythym that I love so much. It brings back memories of college. I remember me & my girlfriend having this music on during our Sunday night quiet storms & trying to keep our focus on our studies instead of each other.
well i gotta say it again, this was some good music with some better times. The summer/fall in the 1980's. Going to clear pool camp in Carmel, New York. Man life was the best! We need more music like this.
Every song clip of this man I've seen on youtube is about him getting some ass for the evening. You mean that was his "schtick?" Had he nothing else to sing about?
Pretty much. If you think about it, a lof of popular R&B songs either "back in the day" or even today have some kind of sexual overtone to it. Guys like him and Keith Sweat virtually "begged" for some in just about every track...unless they were singing about some social cause or something.
Well i wouldnt say that. Glenn Jones is easily in the top 5 ever imo, and he never got the recognition he deserves. No idea why some never really make it all the way.
I'm not offended, just find that his subject matter inmusic was VERY limited. Maybe that's why his fans never really grew cause he appealed to horny club-goers.
Thanks for posting this song..I cant get this album here in South Africa... My brother has the original cd, i have had to copy it. Piracy is worth it here, could not get it. Lunga
Azone01, sorry but you are wrong. I am 35 and I know for a fact that Mr.Moore is right about Video Vibrations and Midnight Love. I grew up watching those, along with Donnie Simpson's dreamy eyes! He made every female just fall in love with him!!! Anyways I love the song so thanks to whoever posted it!!!
Awesome! I love this song and the video. I remember this when I was in the 10th grade in 1985. I also like the way he represents Philly with the attractions such as Benjamin Franklin Parkway and Penns Landing (with them on the Moshulu boat and restaurant). Philly's own Eugene Wilde, thanks for posing this video.
Very genuine love song, music is not like it used to be,nowadays is more about the hook rather than genuine lyrics and talent, the grl in the video looks familiar,is she one of the girls from five star?
I don't think she's one the members of Five Star; if she is, her British accent is missing. This is a genuine song and purely original, a classic, one of my favorites.
If you were around in 1985, they played this video on BET's Video Soul, Video Vibrations, and Midnight Love. MTV at that time played more pop rather than R&B/ Soul jams, in short...it wasn't "black enough" then. This was genuine, about love and not about "bumpin' and grindin'." Classic Soul slow jams made you FEEL the music.
Midnight Love did'nt even come on until the early 1990's. I assumed that it replaced the Video Vibrations Jazz/Quiet Storm counterpart, Soft Notes (that came out in 1987). Around 1985-86, MTV started to play more black artists, but artists like Eugene Wilde (who barely reach the pop charts) had no place on that station.
I remember Soft Notes on BET in the mid-to-late '80s (6PM EST), but Midnight Love DID come out around the late part of the 80's with Alvin Jones, who also hosted Video Vibrations, Soft Notes and created Rap City (which was a segment of Video Vibrations). Midnight Love wasn't shown every weeknight as it was in the early 90's. Midnight Love was shown regularly and went through a series of many different hosts since Alvin Jones. Primarily MTV showed only "pop" R&B songs, not "classic soul" hits.
MTV wouldn't play this song back then because it wasn't "pop" enough, but BET did. Comparing BET and MTV back then was like comparing "Soul Train" and "American Banstand."
I had no idea that Midnight Love started in the late 1980's. I was aware that it was not shown everynight until the mid-late 1990's. Video Vibrations ran for 15 years. Eugene Wilde's videos I know for sure was'nt played on MTV and neither was Luther, Freddie Jackson, El DeBarge (except for "Rhythm Of The Night" with his siblings) or those like him cause they were too "soulful." Thats why I said "..artists like Eugene Wilde (who barely reach the pop charts) had no place on that station."
Thats a simular comparison, but at least American Bandstand welcomed new and upcoming R&B artists on their show. For exmaple, Eugene Wilde was on Bandstand twice, but I really should'nt count the 1980's because Bandstand were on their last legs and thats when more and more soulartists were welcome since famous pop artists became "unavailable" or "too expensive."
Aw hell ye-uuh! A classic...though I always thought the beginning dialogue sounded like it was written for a cheap porno. Yeah, I actually wore my hair like that too!
A great "slow jam" from the 80's. My sister had the cassette tape with this song on it, and I played this song over and over again. I was transitioning from the 8th grade to high school when this song came out. Wow...weren't the 80's a great time to be alive or what? LONG LIVE THE 80'S!!!!!!
i wasnt aware it had been up b4 but lets hope it stays up classics like this deserve to be heard and as for the acting it reminds me of thriller by michael jackson i personally think the acting was soooo poor in thriller but special effects make up made it what it was.

Thats because Michael (despite of The Wiz and those other "short films") isn't that much of a good actor. Ola Ray was much worse.
