The reason Pastorini thought to try to score at the end was because in those days, total points scored for the year factored in the tie breaker. If both teams would have won the next game, they would of been tied, and by rule they would have looked at point totals. The Steelers had the most points anyway, so when Dan called timeout to ask the coach, Bum told him that it wouldn't help them anyway, so he just fell on the ball.
I miss the Oilers very much, and miss Campbell very much. The Steelers were possibly the greatest of all the dynasties, but they needed great opponents to make them what they were.
What has to happen is this: The Texans have to move to San Antonio, they would love having an NFL team. Someone has to go to Bud Adams, who owns the likenesses and name "Oilers", and make him an offer he cant refuse for them. Then an NFL team thinking of moving, like Minnesota, comes to Houston. They are promised a huge paycheck if they promise to wear Oiler blue. A wealthy person, lots of them in TX and lots of them would love to see the return of the Oilers, has to buy the new team.
Thank you SO much for posting this!! But I would have swore that we beat the Steelers 6-0 on two field goals. Oh well. And yeah the ref blew the call on the onside kick. But they made uop for it a month later when they BLEW the touchdown catch that would have tied the game! It WAS a touchdown! It's because of that game that we have instant replay now. Still Luv Ya Blue!!
Pittsburgh and the Raiders in the 70's played so dirty and got away with it. This is why they were so successful. Both teams would not of gotten away with anything these days. Thank God for fair play in todays game!
@anthonyavila34 You fucking pussy - you must be a New England fan or one of those other pussy teams - this was real football the way it should be played - todays NFL sucks - just take the pads off - faggot.
Heres what to do.......move the Texans to a city that wants an NFL team, like San Antonio. Now, find Adams, make him an offer he can't refuse, and get the name, colors and likenesses. Now, find an NFL team thats thinking of moving (like Oakland, Buffalo, Minnesota), move them to Houston, get those names, colors and likenesses and re-christen this new team in Houston the OILERS!
oilers-steelers was one of my favorite rivalries. then gomez.... i mean bud adams moved them to tennessee and to make things even worse the NFL (not exactly trying to preserve its rivalries) moved them to a new division. R.I.P. AFC central 1970-2002.

I lost 100 bucks on this game because the Oilers didn't gain another half-yard at the end and give me the over. Have never forgotten that.

@slydawg221 Asshole Bud Adams should have let the Texans be called The Oilers. He wanted money for the name.

@CelestialWoodway i know, its sick! even millionaires like him are money hungry. no matter how much money they already have they still want more.

Exactly, because Renfro's catch was a TD.

That onside kick traveled 10 yards, but if only they have instant replay ask Mike Renfro.
