  • YOUR MOUTH!

    A MILE!

    AWAY!

    YOUR MOUTH!

    A MILE!

    AWAY!

    YOUR MOUTH!

  • EPIC AS FUCK

  • Everything about this screams ROCK except those pants @ 1:52.

  • @Mistwaters "...And that's what's wrong with Bart's generation. Now as for your generation..."

  • @Mistwaters I think you're comparing Generation X subbacultcha music to Generation Y mainstream music. Who honestly can know what bands today are going to be heralded as the pioneers of the future? Let's not forget the vast amounts of shit music Generation X also produced in the 80's. Shall we compare The White Album to George Micheal? Just offering perpsective here.

  • @jjadgemini88 or Micheal Bolton, rather. not Arrested Development.

  • The Black Francis scream: one of the finest sounds in 20th century music.

  • サイコー!!

  • for the longest time I thought he said "You're a mouse a mile awake"

    :P

  • @Slyder1982 my sister thought gigantic was 'coffee and tea'. In a big big cup? the fuckin idiot!

  • @Mistwaters the problem with your argument is that the Gen Xers did not embrace the pixies, Gen Y did, as they did with many other musicians from that era that went much unnoticed by the "cooler" gen Xers.

  • @norri1am not sure about that, by the time bossanova came out they were doing really big gigs in the UK. I think that ruined them a bit as a live act. just my opinion.

  • Born and raised in LA..but I must say..that the crowds in the UK freaking rule

  • @Mistwaters nicely put sir.

  • EPIC.

  • Nirvana school's.

  • holy fuck his voice was tough

  • @Mistwaters Pixies were the "generation" before Gen X. Gen X are a bunch of douches.

  • @JackBlair2 You are 100% wrong. Read about it. ..... or just read something. Anything.

  • We in Europe treated Pixies as serious stuff because they were 4AD and rocknroll true forever and Nirvana was just a joke band mocked by MRR... untill 1991...

  • PIXIES are the greatest of all time. Bands that are as good as them =

I tell you their peers: The Smiths, REM, Crowded House, Violent Femmes. They are the quality bands. I listened to them this morning, they got me out of bed!

  • jeez! francis is bending the hell out of the tremolo/neck on his tele to make those wawwaw sounds lol... goes right into debaser and sounds fine.. i want a telecaster for christmas.

  • @Mistwaters just put it this way: fifty years from now they will be saying the Pixies were ahead of their time

  • Well said Mistwaters, you can argue over whether Nirvana were influenced by Pixies (they were Kurt admitted it) or whether Soundgarden came first or Pearl Jam were too commercial; the fact is all those bands fucking ruled the last 10 years has been so depressing and boring in the music world.

I feel so sorry for the youth of today they didn't get to grow up with the fantastic music i grew up to as a teenager.

  • joey santiago's shirt ftw.

  • @sabrinasgc420 Wow. Ignorance personified. You do realize that Nirvana TRIED to sound like the Pixies, right?

Why don't you delete this comment and try again? You're embarrassing yourself.

  • @TheLeftyGrove to QUOTE Kurt kobain he said when he wrote smells like teen spirit he was just trying to sound like the pixies.

  • @HOSHAM12345 true. on an interveiw krist said that they were surprised that it was the one that made them famous because to them it sounded like a pixies knock off

  • hey zz, I love Nirvana, but Pixies kick Kurt's ass. Kurt LOVED these guys by the way. Cited them as his biggest musical influence.

  • Yep that was my point ; p

  • If the singer looked and dressed like Kurt they might have been as big as nirvana hehe

  • They predate nirvana by like 4 years.

  • Yep that was my whole point ; ) Kurt said he wanted to sound like the pixies which I guess you know hence your reply.

  • by one year but anyways i.e. PIxies formed in 86 and Nirvana formed in 87 but PIxies had the soft to hard style first where as Nirvana really started using that during nevermind e.g. Spells like teen spirit etc

  • Never knew they dated back that far.

Nirvana was a huge melding of different influences, which when unleashed on the world of pop music changed it forever.

But not without the indispensable help of their predecessors.

  • Nirvana made grunge commercial with their radio friendly hits "smells like teen spirit" and "lithium" but Sound Garden formed in 1984 so they really started the seatle/grunge sound & they were big in Seatle before Nirvana.

  • Dont forget about bands like Green River, or the huge impact sub pop records had on the situation.

  • Kurt had trouble taking credit for starting the "commercial grunge machine" as he knew Sound Garden & Pixies were more original & he wanted to remain alternative like pixies, not become a fashion accessory etc Pearl Jam looked & sounded allot like Sound Garden live when they started & Eddy Vedder looked allot like Chris Cornell on stage, but there was higher energy with Vedder. Sound garden seemed to write more radio friendly songs & up the anti in their live gigs after pearl jam got big.

  • Nirvana was a minnow to THE Pixies wale.

  • That looks like that would've been an awesome concert lots of atmosphere, wish I'd been there.

  • I would have worn out my voice and all my energy just performing this one, and the Pixies carried on and delivered their greatest concert ever. Tip top.

  • Pure energy!!! You have no idea how I feel young and alive... it is like if I found my old video tape and just arrived from school. It smells so fresh!!! Thanks for posting!!! Great memories!

  • rock music is right!

  • The Color of violence did

  • great powerful intro

    love it

  • Your Mouth's A Mile Away (repeat about 8 times)

    AHHHHHHH

    I'm already gone...

    Hey you know me

encatuse --(someone told me it's spanish for "And I know you?")

    Your Mouth's A Mile Away

    Slag

  • Encatuse is very similar to Encatusar. That means to trick someone by kissing his/her ass.

  • you mean "engatusar" and is like; influence to somebody for your convinience; in every way; is a word in spanish but i dont know if frank say that

  • no words / sin palabras

  • "you know me" means "me conoce" en español

  • can it get any better than this??? amazing, the pixies were one of the best ever

  • this song is the pixies most balls out rock moment

  • @bd108 Agreed!

  • Comment removed

  • think it's

    It was enchanted

    Encantou-se in portuguese .

  • I think you're right. Not that its really that important. All that matters is this is a beast of a tune.

  • yeah well you should totally check out dutch tv interview of his song writing. music first then sounds then words or something, illustrated by fist in his t shirt.

  • im puerto rican never heard that word

  • "hey you know me and..." what's the spanish?

  • encantuse

  • not a word according to babel fish

  • Sorry, I mispelled it. Its encatuse.

    'Your mouth's a mile away

    I'm already gone

Hey you no man (not hey you know me)

    Encatuse'

I think the word encatuse is possibly a coloquialism, as its not traditional Spanish. Black Francis lived in Puerto Rico for a short time, its possibly a word he picked up while there. But it could just be a product of his imagination, some of the lyrics in 'Vamos' aren't actually real words. All that's important is that Pixies are the greatest band of all time

  • its not a puertorican slang, it has no meaning in spanish.

  • I heard somewhere it means, "You know me". Hense the line would be, "I know you and you know me."

Though, I haven't been able to confirm it.

  • that is not spanish, who knows wtf it is.

  • What's the opening music that plays just before the drumming begins?

  • Don't take this personally, but you don't know what the fuck you are talking about.

    Actually, do take it personally..........

  • + for the screaming,. great song

  • well they won't really do any good using you as their ambassador. stop filling my head with angry you nerd..

  • they opened with this in the point depot

Dublin in 1992 ,still sends shivers down my spine .

Kim deal = sexiest voice in rock

  • anybody noticed when black francis looked at the camera maniacally at 1:11 it's funny man haha

  • They started their Werchter gig in 1991 (1990?) with this song.

The fact i still remember this does mean something :-)

  • i like the guitar riff

  • So did Supergrass and nth degree with Rush Hour and Jetsetter, respectively.

  • Your mouth is miles away....but I can still here you loud & clear Mr. Black!!! Wow what a voice!

  • This song is on Bassanova its number 2

  • The Pixies: The Shining Star of all of Gen X's already bloody impressive contributions to music.

Oh to have a time machine so I could be in that crowd in that moment. Thanks for posting this!

  • Theyve mad elike 3 best of albums and I cant believe that this isnt on anyone of them, unless im mistaken

  • This song gets my blood pumping. It would be an absolute blast to hear it live at a concert. I bet the whole place would just come alive.

  • This song is .........it!!

  • I have chills...freaking AWESOME!

  • Yeah, i swore Smashing Pumpkins were my favourite all time band, but there's too much dross of late and these guys always kept it lean and mean.

Tip of the hat to the Pixies!

  • I couldn't agree more.

  • Cheers. And i just noticed that this song is 2 minutes long! Talk about trimming off the fat, there's not a note of it on this and most of their songs.

  • As much as I would like to agree with you, I just can't.

Seriously, think about it... Pixies cooler than Hendrix/Stones/Beatles/Zep/Cream/Dylan/etc/etc? Think about the social phenoma these bands were, the mystique, the air about them... and how stunningly good their music was, and how entirely congruent it was with their image. The Pixies are cool because their songwriting is stunningly good with sans any image.

  • bad to the fucking bone!!!!!!

  • there's often alot of bullshit talked about music. pixies shut everyone up, pixies are the best band of all time

  • You just made the most SENSIBLE statement ever made about Pixies!!!

    ABSOLUTELY AGREE!

  • Remember, kids? ROCK MUSIC!

  • It's somewhere exemplifying what Bob Dylan once said : "The correct meaning of rock'n'roll is not "social phenomenon" but "parent's nightmare". lol

  • Yeah, but Bob Dylan to me is boring grandparents' rock!

  • dylan sucks. horrid, waning voice

  • I LA LA LOVE THIS SONG!

  • so fucking tough to perform...

  • right on! perfectly said my man. is time travel possible yet?

  • So is this the song Nirvana ripped off to create Smells like Teen Spirit?

  • In Cobain's journals he said it was actually Godzilla by Blue Oyster Cult

  • so good

  • I am in love with Kim Deal

  • i love that there are no real words. just pure anger and screaming. pixies live forever !

  • impressive

  • one of the best comments ive ever seen!

Often imitated NEVER duplicated! nice touch!

  • punk is coming home

  • I like all Frank Black's different voice textures..I like artists like him that push the boundries for freedom in vocal performance

  • i luv kim's weird little dance thing halfway through the song.

  • This song is the older cousin of "Tourettes" by Nirvana I like both

  • Frank Black's vocals are so fucking killer.

  • saw these a few times that yr-knock out!!!

  • BEST ROCK VOICE!!!

  • kim looks so sexy here! my god

  • kim has some awesome dance moves at 1:20

  • Why these kids arent in the R@R Hall of Fame is Gods own private mystery. They just dont make em like this anymore.

  • amen

  • dont you have to have been a band 25 years to be in it?

  • yeah cobens right. I wouldn't be suprised if they make it in their. they sure as hell oughtta

  • I believe it has to have been 25 years since the release of your first record for the first year of eligibility. Come On Pilgrim was released in 1986, so they're close.

  • 'you're miles and miles away...'

  • Your mouth's a mile away

  • I believe this guy is right

  • What's the song playing in the beginning when the title is still up?

  • ...it's such a shame, so many people find the pixies' music harsh and abrasive and equate it to lack of melodicism, but i have always found their music and francis' screaming quite melodic...go figure

...i miss them so much, wish they still played live :(

  • My brother keeps telling me to turn it down which pisses me off so much - as this song in particular just sounds so wrong when I can't whack it up as loud as it goes! I'd agree with you 100% They're genius

  • If angels could scream, they would do so like Black Francis

  • Slag!

  • Bugger me backwards. What a tune, what a performance. I don't need to see the rest of the gig after that start.

  • frank black is the fucking man. end of story

  • Incredible voice. How can he do that ?

    It's simply perfect.

  • Damn... I was 6 years old that time... And definitely less drank...

  • Say hello to the man,, no sorry, to the LORD

  • i believe.

  • ... I mean BLUEFINGER.

  • Check out my BLACK FRANCIS live videos from his 2007 tour promoting his new album BLEUFINGER to be released on September 11th.

    JC

  • What's the set list? I want to make sure I have all of them saved to my favourites!!

  • Frank's voice in this is in top form.

  • YOUR MOUTHS A MILE AWAY! fucking incredible

  • Which source is this? PAL version?

  • 1991. Recorded for Japanese TV. Both nights were recorded but they only aired the 2nd night.

  • absolutely brilliant. I'm going to go start a band now.

  • Oh my word, I forgot how heavy this song off the Pixies apparently mellow album is!

  • Cheers einzack, you rock!!
