Note that the video never explicitly says to remove the tank. It's just magically off the bowl and requires reinstallation. You have to undo those bolts first, then remove the tank.
I've watched a couple of toilet removal/replacement videos today. It should be obvious, I agree, BUT... for those of us who are DIY challenged, neither vid said to TURN THE WATER OFF FIRST. And how come the toilets being removed have perfect shiny bolts? Need a video showing a toilet that hasn't moved in 30+ years with icky corroded bolts with no "heads" anymore. Just lumps of rust. Yeah, I know, complain, complain. I'm just procrastinating about going to find the $%*#(@($*%* hacksaw!
@bodenac1 I am wondering is (once perfectly level) if the bowl can be shimmed to prevent any excess movement??? Has anyone ever heard of this practice?
There are a lot of construction jobs that don't care like you do. Don't get the economy Mansfield toilet, it's bad. IT does not flush completely in one flush ever. The porcelien is not as smooth as should be around the water level so dirt gets trapped in the rough areas and makes a ring around the water. America has become, a financial scam. Don't ever get the cheapest even though it's still a lot of money
Thank you so much!! I had the 'fear' big time and have tackled that rocking toilet problem and won. Just a broken flange. Too many Plumbers are the biggest ripoff artists on the planet so you probably saved me over $200.00. There will always be something too much for the average homeowner, but we should be able to do these simple plumbing fixes without having to take out a loan!
Looks like a OLD floor, and where there was even indications of the original 4 bolt bowl / reverse trap toilet possibly, because i se the old bolt holes.
Obviously, the weight of the toilet (and the person sitting on it) should be borne by the floor and not the flange. In fact, having the toilet base in contact with the flange means that virtually all the wax in the seal is being squeezed out. I suggest calling a plumber and having him or her do whatever is necessary to lower the flange to the correct position. It will be a good investment.
I just searching a song and i found this :D

You can use the toilet right away. The wax ring provides the seal between the toilet and the plumbing flange and it remains pliable indefinitely.

Is it necessary to use the plumbers putty as shown in this video?

Use LiquiLock to solidify the water before you remove the toilet! Search "LiquiLock" on youtube or google for more info. Will be in Home Depot soon.

How do you keep your toilet bowl from shifting and breaking the seal when a heavy person sits on the toilet?

Don't overtighten the bolts when attatching the tank, you'll brake the porcelin. Back to menards to purchase a 2nd toilet. :(

What can I do if the old flange is two inches above the floor? It keeps the commode from touching the floor when mounted.
I fear the old flange is below the floor in the pipe so I can't just cut if off and install a new one.
What can I do about this?

Flush your fears! Good video! Very helpful. Thanks!

To clarify... the cup on the plastic ring needs to face DOWN into the pipe and UP towards the toilet.
