This is the album I had my parents buy me when I was a kid. This is such an inspirational song. I'm sure it improved enlistment. Too bad Barry Sadler became a chronic alcoholic and shot himself. I didn't recognize an older photo of him.

My Dad had this album on a 45, it was my favorite thing to listen to. I still love this song to this day. It reminds me of him

@favorsct1 I did the same thing as a kid. I remember sitting on the living room floor next to the huge stereo console listening to this over and over. And yes it was on a 45, also my Dads record. Are you sure your not my brother. LOL

I had friends sent to Vietnam,some came back some didn't.it seems its been a continuance war in different country's,Desert Storm,and Irac.We've lost thousands of good men and woman.

I guess if the wars was'nt fought in their country's it would be here in our mother land for all of you that may read this be safe and may God be with you and protect all of you

The part of this song I like the most is the line "men who mean just what they say". Whatever happened to that idea? People back out of deals left, right and centre these days. Whenever I give my word, I honor it. It really pisses me off when people go back on their word. When people do it, I think of them as worthless.

My brother, David Duran, was on of the Green Berets. He was nick named the Armadillo Kid from Texas. He earned 8 purple hearts, silver star metal and the bronze star. I am proud of him even though he seldom speaks of his experience.

green berets were in villages outside the marine base at khe sanh.They didn't have much of a chance against communist tanks but,at least, those gook NVA spent the next 8 weeks getting fucked up pretty good.The b-52's did a freakin' number on them.

Had a good Army buddy that almost talked me into trying out for the Special Forces back in 1962. I passed as I didn't have the guts to jump out of a perfectly good airplane. He did it and successfully became a Green Beret. He has my utmost admiration!! Hope your still with us Gary!

Thank you for your comment. I have admiration for anyone who has the guts to go in to the armed forces. I have had a few friends that have joined and some of them have been over in Iraq. Sorry it took so long for me to reply.

Thanks for the positive comment. Someoneeelse must not feel the same as us. Vietnam & Iraq are both dirty wars where you don't know for sure who the enemy is. My gratitude goes out to all our service people that are giving up part of their lives to help others.
