ummmm no one won...... americans didnt lose........ it was neutral cause they signed the treaty of Ghent it was a peace treaty that ended the war and restored relations between the us and britain... just saying
Yes, the Treaty of Ghent (via SQAB) restored everything to the way it was but that is a gross oversimplification of events. The US wanted to annex Canada (British North America), expelling all Brit presence from the N American continent. Even with huge numerical superiority, this proved an abject failure, as was their efforts for GB to rescind the Orders in Council.
GB's priority was the defeat of Napoleon and the defence of Canada, both goals successfully achieved.
@DaKillaKamikaze i kinda feel like invading America right now........ with our helos that all can do is roll over and land on people while yours can kill someone w/ a hell fire missle from a mile away
@Adamwrocks Exactly. It was a stalemate (hence the Treaty of Ghent's "status quo ante bellum"). the US had the failed invasion of Canada and got their capitol burned down, but at the same time, the US burned down Toronto (then called York) and had decisive victories at Baltimore and New Orleans, so it evens things out
@sprPee Yes, but news of the Treaty didn't reach that side of the Atlantic until after the battle, despite the fact that the treaty had been signed beforehand. And Toronto may not have been the capital (it still isn't obviously), but it was still a major city at that time.
Funny the war of 1812 was fought over American sovereignty with England.(Yes England, only we make it sound huge if we say the United Kingdom as they weren't that United Back then; and Briton was only slightly great as we were not the only ones that wanted to get away). What is now almost sovereign Canada (lets face it your queen is still on your currency) was a lost battle the war was won flat out and the USA is a sovereign nation with our own presidents on our money.
Few here even seem to realize our national anthem came out of a deciding battle in 1814 near the end of the war of 1812. We won the war of 1812 though a battle may have been lost to a few British sympathizers that we underestimated (They were Canadian how hard could they be since they stay out of every war and let the french walk all over them in Quebec;).
Though I have to admit this song is hilarious and I enjoyed it immensely. It shows that the only real defeat we had in the War of 1812 was handed to us by those who's children we have often counted as our girlie friends from up north.
So here it is, I hope my Saskatoon cousins will forgive me for setting the record straight. Canada won a battle but the Americans tossed the British out.
@BlindWolfD Eh? America didn't toss the British out. The Americans were soundly beaten and driven out of British Canada with their tails between their legs. Do you actually learn history in America? Just because you repeatedly say you won the war of 1812 doesn't make it true. Even American historians admit it was a defeat, are you yanks that insecure you cant even admit a war America fought 200 years ago was an obvious disaster?
@BlindWolfD The United States did not win this war, the very idea is absolutely ludicrous. How did you toss the British out? Britain was doing everything possible to avoid a war with America. You guys launched several successive invasions of Canada for two and a half years, each one failing despite having massive numerical superiority. Then British reinforcements arrived, burnt your capital, raided your coasts and ruined your economy, forcing you to give up the war.
Go back and read your history ... The United states never attacked Canada though at one time they had a disastrous attack on a British colony up north. Later those people were allowed to form a country more recently called Canada which for all argument sake can still be called an English protectorate. feel free to research the root causes of the war of 1812 and you will find that it had little to do with Canada. England conceded loss soon after a battle in 1814..
@BlindWolfD I think it is you who should read your history; you're evidently trying to be smart about a subject you know nothing about. The British colony the US attacked in 1812 was known as British North America, consisting of Upper Canada and Lower Canada, informally, collectively known as Canada. Americans of the time referred to it as Canada, and US newspapers in 1812 practically declared that the conquest of "Canada" was their intended goal. Not to mention the numerous quotes -
@BlindWolfD The two sides then signed a treaty, a treaty which addressed none of the issues of why the US apparently went to war, Britain retained the right of impressment and gave no ground on the maritime issues which the US were "apparently" contesting, and conceded nothing in terms of territory to the US, Britain crushed America's dreams of conquest.
@ColdEnigma I really hope this doesn't start anything but, England signed a treaty and then America beat them in one more battle before they left so it was more of a victory then a tie or a loss.
@409- The reason the US lost this war was through their disastrous attempts to annex Canada (still part of the British Commonwealth) even with huge numerical superiority. US also failed to overturn the Orders in Council (which GB never repealed.)
The British defeat at New Orleans had no bearing whatsoever, fought after Ghent had been signed; even if it had been a British victory, it would still have returned to the US via SQAB. Besides, the very last engagements were British victories.
@nigee1970 The U.S. fought the war of 1812 because they were abusing the maritime rights, which Britain stopted abusing after the war so in turn a U.S. victory. It is not the extra things achieved or not achived, it is whether the goal of the war is acomplished. 1812 was not a seige of Canada. The U.S. atempted to attack it to stop British advancements from the north.
@409- No, if the war was about trade rights, impressmen etc, it would've started in 1807 after the Leopard/Chesapeake affair. GB only rescinded this after Napoleon's defeat. Be aware, the US was trying to trade with France, our then enemy.1812 was about Continentalism (later recoined "Manifest Destiny") i.e. the desire to rule the entire continent of N America & expel all Brit presence. This was an abject failure, as was their attempts to overturn the Orders in Council ergo, an American defeat.
@nigee1970 America was debating whether to go to war meanwhile the same thing kept happening to them over and over to them. U.S. was actuly trying to trade with both Britain and France. Not to mention many of the battles were seafaring battles. Britain was capturing men and using them in their war/capturing the ships as well. If America wanted to take land they would have gone west sooner.
@409- The New England Federalist states (those who suffered from impressment) voted no to war; so strongly were they against, they threatened cessation from the Union (Hartford Convention.) Madison used trade, impressment etc to undercut the Feds in Congress. The hawks were from the western & southern slave states (fearing GB's Slave Trade Act), not the north-east who enjoyed close trade & ties with GB.
I reiterate, if impressment was the real issue, why didn't the war start in 1807?
No initial US cause for hostilities (trade, impressment etc) were even mentioned at Ghent! None of that territory was America's to take, not Canada or the western frontier(Native Indian lands.) They failed to annex Canada after trying for well over 2 yrs. US only got the green light to take Indian land after the death of Tecumseh along with his dream of an Indian Confederation. Alas, at Ghent, the Natives weren't represented & ended up getting screwed by Jackson's Indian Removal Act.
@walshph33r america didn't delcare war with canada. america didn't want canada. canada wasn't apart of that war. the us went to war because of something the UK did. the war was fought US vs UK.
why are you here? -- better question --- " why do you think canada was apart of that war. non of your people were involved
@mrfwest one of the main theatres of the war was what is now know as Canada. Many of the British soldiers who fought in Canada would stay, so, they would become Canadians. About as close as you can get.
@walshph33r Because you did not exist as a nation in 1812 but as British colonies. you are still a English protectorate in many ways. When will you become self sovereign? In 1867, with the union of three British North American colonies through Confederation. This began an accretion of provinces and territories and a process of growing freedom from the UK. the Statute of Westminster 1931 the Canada Act 1982 severed the vestiges of legal dependence on the British parliament.
@BlindWolfD from high ranking American politicians such as Thomas Jefferson, Henry Clay, John Adams etc all declaring that the conquest of "Canada" would be a "mere matter of marching and would result in the final expulsion of England from the American continent".
I know all about the reasons for the war and none of them were particulary justifiable, native aid was never proven, your trade ships were hassled because you chose to trade with a tyrant (Napoleon), and impressment was a
@BlindWolfD means of recovering British deserters, whom the US government was harbouring, not only that, the states that suffered from impressment were so anti - war that they threatened to secede from the Union in 1815 through the Hartford convention if their demands were not met.
England concede defeat?
Without the patriotic bullshit, the facts of the war are this; the US declared war in 1812 (a time when Britain was on the brink of disaster in Europe), for 2 and a half years -
@BlindWolfD for 2 and a half years they launched repeated invasions into Canada, all of them failing despite numerical superiority, in 1814 Britain brought over reinforcements, ruined the American economy through a massive blockade, burnt down the capital, raided the coasts and captured a large amount of territory, this was given back as Britain's attention was focused elsewhere, primarily in Europe, where the Battle of Waterloo would soon take place,
i'm french-canadian and american and i LOVE this song. we watched it in my advanced placement united states history class this morning and a neighboring teacher who is canadian and VERY VERY patriotic about it interrupted the class and came in waving a big canada flag singing "we burned it down" and it was amazing.
@OverseerJames We burned Fort Niagra, Youngstown, 18 mile creek, Fort Scholsner, Tonawonga Creek, LaSalle, Black Rock and Buffalo. The British burned Washington at Our Request.
But you are right it doesn't matter. Wars are not fought to inflict damage but achieve objectives.
Britain's sole objective was defend Canada as Napoleon was a higher priority. Mission Accomplished. LOL
@OverseerJames The Provincial capitol of upper Canada, York (Now modern day Toronto) was burned.
That was not the Capitol of British North America at the time which was Halifax. Nor was York exactly the British Capitol in London which is what the US would have had to do to equal the Burning of Washington.
The Burning of York was what started all the barbarism as sacking civilian communities was against the conventions of war.
@Eddythebeast666 Agree, but you cannot say America was defeated since we never surrendered. Unless you believe that the capturing of a capital means the loss of a war. Moscow was burned several times. In fact Russia weakened Napoleon extremely considerable after their capital was burnt.
@OverseerJames The Burning of Washington wasn't what I was basing my opinion of British victory upon.
If the end of impressment was the US goal then it was achieved through diplomacy before the war started. The War was counter productive for the US from both the official reasons & non official reasons for the war.
Since Britain had no objectives beyond defense of Canada how was it a British loss?
@Eddythebeast666 It was a British loss. I never said it was. It was a tie. The came to an agreement to give the land they captured back to America. They knew it would be extremely difficult and costly to attempt to take over America. Also, Britain was kidnapping American sailors in American waters forcing then to fight in the Napoleonic War by the thousands. By the way remember the 7 year war? It was America and Britain vs French Canada, and we won. This time it was America vs Canada and Britain
@OverseerJames Tie? Its not a foot race its a bloody war. People died. Was New Orleans a tie because no land was lost or gained.
Your Economy was in ruins, 6 states were ready to secede from the Union via the Hartford Convention, the blockade of your coast was so tight you had to move goods around by cart. Your Capitol reduced to ash.
The US started a war if you end up worse off then you started out then you lost. All Britain had to do to win was hold the line.
@Eddythebeast666 So what are you trying to prove? That we lost the war or that it ended bad? Are you trying to say that America is... weak, stupid, less than Canada. Because all of those were true at the time ad at that moment. All I'm trying to say is we didn't loose the war, because much of our union was still intact. In fact after the war was over people were still fighting.
@OverseerJames What I'm saying is that this is a joke video not a history lesson. It is in fact a reply to the Battle of New Orleans song & in the exact same spirit of that song rubbing an American victorious battle in the face of British (& Canadians as we were British at the time) This song rubs the US nose in the fact that the entire war was a US loss. Yes LOSS, YOU LOST, not a tie. We didn't have destroy or take any land from you to beat you. Just send you home with a bloody nose.
@OverseerJames Now if it seems uncharacteristic for Canadians to celebrate visiting destruction upon our neighbors then you are missing the point of the song.
Since the 1930's when you changed your national anthem to a song where you cower in your fort as we bombarded you with shells & rockets we have been expected to stand respectfully as you clueless dinks celebrate at our expense.
It seems only as we return the favor in this joke song are catching on how insulting & ignorant your nation is.
@Eddythebeast666 Whatever the case, no nation is ignorant, and all have potential. In another note, the simple saying, "two wrongs doesn't make a right" (if true), would make your argument invalid. Furthermore, our objective was to defend that area against a more powerful foe, and we did. You can call it "cowering", but I call it something else. I respect your opinion and I hope you respect mine.
@OverseerJames Fair enough, I over stepped with the ignorant comment as most Americans who hear this get the joke just fine & while my sense of propriety was offended by the Battle of New Orleans song I did find it amusing in a crude sort of way. ;D
Baltimore by the way was the staging ground for American Privateers preying upon British civilian merchant shipping. You with stood the attack. Good for you but don't pretend you didn't have it coming.
@Areallykelwguy Britain had no ambitions of conquest in The US. The purpose of the attack upon the US was to force the US in to a defensive position.
The moment news arrived that Impressment ended Prévost (Head of British North America) called an armistice hoping to resolve the war. The US used the time to launch further attacks. Which continued right up until reinforcements arrived from Europe.
When that happened the US was forced to defend it self. No more attacks upon Canada until the treaty
@Areallykelwguy No more attacks upon Canada until the treaty ended the war. Its a pity the US didn't give up on the attacks before Washington was toasted.
None of the issues that supposedly motivated the USA to go to war were even brought up at Ghent.
Now if this had been a war of British aggression a stalemate would be a loss but it was not.
Being forced to sign a treaty of peace when your nation is under attack when you started out on the offensive with no gains made is called loosing.
The state of Maryland, for the wars' bicentennial coming up, has decided that they will build a memorial commemorating the American's "victory" in the war of 1812. I guess they have to lie to attract tourists.
not true. The siege of Ft McHenry, the british defeats at Baltimore and New Orleans are better known that the battles at Saratoga and Yorktown. 3/4 of the naval engagements were also US victories.
@USMarineRifleman0311 dude you just proved my point look you talked about every other U.S you guys win but never 1ns you lose see we canadians can admit defeat cause you know we can man up about and i bet there are real guys in U.S that are more of a man then you to admit the defeats
This war solidified the country, we had all sorts of bad leadership that had to be shed. If we werent tested in this war, our military wouldntve stood a chance in the Mex Am war, our navy wouldnt be what it is today or what it was in 1860 without 1812-1815 experience.
@USMarineRifleman0311 Tested? fancy it up all you want just admit you guys got your asses kicked now admit it if you are a man or be a little kid who can't admit any thing
@USMarineRifleman0311 Sorry but it wasn't until the Civil war that the US shook off most of the naive ideas of the Revolution like States rights & became a true nation. Before that the US was a chaotic mess.
the british burned 1/2 of the capital building, they also took the us capital during the revolution. No canadian ever stepped on US soil during that war.
@USMarineRifleman0311 LOL Americas terms? Man have you seen the Treaty of Ghent? Artical IX stated you were to give back Native lands.
None of the official excuses for the war were even brought up. The only thing the US got was some compensation for slaves we freed. Way to fight for the cause of freedom hypocrites.
I had a Canadian ancestor at Detroit which was the only time in US history a white flag flew in surrender over a US city.
Like I keep telling you, we dont give a fuck like the sorry excuse for a country like canada does.
We challenged the largest empire in history at the time in 1775 and won. Then they came back for seconds.
They havent been back since New Orleans for some reason tough. As early as 1854 they were asking for military support in their wars and battles tough, we were happy to oblige.
@USMarineRifleman0311 Bull. The Largest Empire in 1812 was Napoleonic France & you kissed his behind & attacked Britain that was fighting the Biggest Empire. During the Revolutionary war the Spanish Empire was the Largest.
Learn some history before you start shooting your mouth off, Boy.
@Eddythebeast666 eddy just remember we are better them him we don't need to get worked up over this little kid who puts on a big show acting like some real man he dos not have the balls to admit defeat ha ha he can fancy his words up all he wants he is still just a kid so go easy on this little dude k
@Eddythebeast666 I know i have some friends that are from america there the 1ns that showed me this video and they think this video is funny and the comments and they say all the stuff marinerifle says is dumb
the us wn most of the battles and crumbled the brits best general in orleans so i know you canadians get angry if i say we won and we did so yu burnt our capital we burnt yours and at least were not the brits bitch
@bennihana123 the us won in orleans, baltimo,re,the uss constitution destroyed hms guerriere,Battle of Lake Erie,Second Battle of Sacket's Harbor, and i got alot more
@readromanstwelvetwo I dont kno man, just drop THC bombs on everyone then who gonna fight back we will just stroll in with our forest camo and walk around the cities conquerin shit for canada
I thought British destroyed the white house, but since Canadians are so proud of destroying the white house shouldn't we go to war, nuke them or something?
@Scionwoods Canada is allies with Britain, part of the European union. Don't get cocky, USA isn't indestructible. Touch one of the european nations and they'll all fuck over your union of 50.
@blitzarium I would love to see that, you obviously don´t know anything about military affairs. The idea that Europe with its extremely underfunded militaries would be able to defeat USA is ridiculous.
@RUBENSolol um you are extremely wrong, if all of europe gathered its forces against america, america would be fucked... espically since they have more allies who would in turn aid in their attack, and if america went to war with europe or europe went to war with america russia would sezie the moment and destory america... america has lots of troops but when it comes to skill they are seriously lacking
@101Jared WOW! WOW! Why on Earth would Russia go and destroy america? They would in first place try to seize their "near abroad"-Caucasus, Central Asia, parts on Eastern Europe.
Btw, why do you think that USA is participating NATO operation in Libya? Becuase Europeans lack capacities to pull it off! And the point about american troops lacking skill...because of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, they now have a huge number of soldiers with lots of combat experience.
The war of 1812 was a basically throwaway side affair to the Napoleonic conflict. The Brits didn't win it, the Americans didn't either.
And I am Canadian, and am willing to admit that we didn't even win that war.

Hey guys (and girls), i'm from the US. and guess what? we lost the war of 1812. get over it. this song is a good humored joke.
ColdEnigma 3 months ago 62
Funny the war of 1812 was fought over American sovereignty with England.(Yes England, only we make it sound huge if we say the United Kingdom as they weren't that United Back then; and Briton was only slightly great as we were not the only ones that wanted to get away). What is now almost sovereign Canada (lets face it your queen is still on your currency) was a lost battle the war was won flat out and the USA is a sovereign nation with our own presidents on our money.
BlindWolfD 2 months ago
Few here even seem to realize our national anthem came out of a deciding battle in 1814 near the end of the war of 1812. We won the war of 1812 though a battle may have been lost to a few British sympathizers that we underestimated (They were Canadian how hard could they be since they stay out of every war and let the french walk all over them in Quebec;).
BlindWolfD 2 months ago
@BlindWolfD
BlindWolfD 2 months ago
@BlindWolfD Eh? America didn't toss the British out. The Americans were soundly beaten and driven out of British Canada with their tails between their legs. Do you actually learn history in America? Just because you repeatedly say you won the war of 1812 doesn't make it true. Even American historians admit it was a defeat, are you yanks that insecure you cant even admit a war America fought 200 years ago was an obvious disaster?
uafchris 1 month ago
@BlindWolfD The United States did not win this war, the very idea is absolutely ludicrous. How did you toss the British out? Britain was doing everything possible to avoid a war with America. You guys launched several successive invasions of Canada for two and a half years, each one failing despite having massive numerical superiority. Then British reinforcements arrived, burnt your capital, raided your coasts and ruined your economy, forcing you to give up the war.
Ninja1275 2 months ago
@Ninja1275
BlindWolfD 1 month ago
@BlindWolfD I think it is you who should read your history; you're evidently trying to be smart about a subject you know nothing about. The British colony the US attacked in 1812 was known as British North America, consisting of Upper Canada and Lower Canada, informally, collectively known as Canada. Americans of the time referred to it as Canada, and US newspapers in 1812 practically declared that the conquest of "Canada" was their intended goal. Not to mention the numerous quotes -
Ninja1275 1 month ago
@BlindWolfD The two sides then signed a treaty, a treaty which addressed none of the issues of why the US apparently went to war, Britain retained the right of impressment and gave no ground on the maritime issues which the US were "apparently" contesting, and conceded nothing in terms of territory to the US, Britain crushed America's dreams of conquest.
Ninja1275 1 month ago
@ColdEnigma I really hope this doesn't start anything but, England signed a treaty and then America beat them in one more battle before they left so it was more of a victory then a tie or a loss.
409lego 1 month ago
@409- The reason the US lost this war was through their disastrous attempts to annex Canada (still part of the British Commonwealth) even with huge numerical superiority. US also failed to overturn the Orders in Council (which GB never repealed.)
The British defeat at New Orleans had no bearing whatsoever, fought after Ghent had been signed; even if it had been a British victory, it would still have returned to the US via SQAB. Besides, the very last engagements were British victories.
nigee1970 1 month ago
@nigee1970 The U.S. fought the war of 1812 because they were abusing the maritime rights, which Britain stopted abusing after the war so in turn a U.S. victory. It is not the extra things achieved or not achived, it is whether the goal of the war is acomplished. 1812 was not a seige of Canada. The U.S. atempted to attack it to stop British advancements from the north.
409lego 1 month ago
@409- No, if the war was about trade rights, impressmen etc, it would've started in 1807 after the Leopard/Chesapeake affair. GB only rescinded this after Napoleon's defeat. Be aware, the US was trying to trade with France, our then enemy.1812 was about Continentalism (later recoined "Manifest Destiny") i.e. the desire to rule the entire continent of N America & expel all Brit presence. This was an abject failure, as was their attempts to overturn the Orders in Council ergo, an American defeat.
nigee1970 1 month ago
@nigee1970 America was debating whether to go to war meanwhile the same thing kept happening to them over and over to them. U.S. was actuly trying to trade with both Britain and France. Not to mention many of the battles were seafaring battles. Britain was capturing men and using them in their war/capturing the ships as well. If America wanted to take land they would have gone west sooner.
409lego 1 month ago
@409- The New England Federalist states (those who suffered from impressment) voted no to war; so strongly were they against, they threatened cessation from the Union (Hartford Convention.) Madison used trade, impressment etc to undercut the Feds in Congress. The hawks were from the western & southern slave states (fearing GB's Slave Trade Act), not the north-east who enjoyed close trade & ties with GB.
I reiterate, if impressment was the real issue, why didn't the war start in 1807?
nigee1970 1 month ago
No initial US cause for hostilities (trade, impressment etc) were even mentioned at Ghent! None of that territory was America's to take, not Canada or the western frontier(Native Indian lands.) They failed to annex Canada after trying for well over 2 yrs. US only got the green light to take Indian land after the death of Tecumseh along with his dream of an Indian Confederation. Alas, at Ghent, the Natives weren't represented & ended up getting screwed by Jackson's Indian Removal Act.

@mrfwest i dont get it.... canada? british? the argument here is not who was in it.. but who won O-o....
walshph33r 2 months ago
@mrfwest one of the main theatres of the war was what is now know as Canada. Many of the British soldiers who fought in Canada would stay, so, they would become Canadians. About as close as you can get.
Superglue1989 2 months ago

Without the patriotic bullshit, the facts of the war are this; the US declared war in 1812 (a time when Britain was on the brink of disaster in Europe), for 2 and a half years -
Ninja1275 1 month ago
@BlindWolfD for 2 and a half years they launched repeated invasions into Canada, all of them failing despite numerical superiority, in 1814 Britain brought over reinforcements, ruined the American economy through a massive blockade, burnt down the capital, raided the coasts and captured a large amount of territory, this was given back as Britain's attention was focused elsewhere, primarily in Europe, where the Battle of Waterloo would soon take place,

The war was a tie. We kicked a** in New Orleans., and in lake Michigan. Just because you burned one city doesn't mean you won the war.
OverseerJames 3 months ago
@OverseerJames We burned Fort Niagra, Youngstown, 18 mile creek, Fort Scholsner, Tonawonga Creek, LaSalle, Black Rock and Buffalo. The British burned Washington at Our Request.
But you are right it doesn't matter. Wars are not fought to inflict damage but achieve objectives.
Britain's sole objective was defend Canada as Napoleon was a higher priority. Mission Accomplished. LOL
The US Objective to Take Canada was a failure.
Eddythebeast666 3 months ago
@Eddythebeast666 Yes, but do you know why Canada requested the British Empire burn Washington? Don't try to hide what happened to your capital.
OverseerJames 3 months ago
@OverseerJames The Provincial capitol of upper Canada, York (Now modern day Toronto) was burned.
That was not the Capitol of British North America at the time which was Halifax. Nor was York exactly the British Capitol in London which is what the US would have had to do to equal the Burning of Washington.
The Burning of York was what started all the barbarism as sacking civilian communities was against the conventions of war.
The US acted like animals & were treated as such.
Eddythebeast666 3 months ago
@Eddythebeast666 Agree, but you cannot say America was defeated since we never surrendered. Unless you believe that the capturing of a capital means the loss of a war. Moscow was burned several times. In fact Russia weakened Napoleon extremely considerable after their capital was burnt.
OverseerJames 3 months ago
@OverseerJames The Burning of Washington wasn't what I was basing my opinion of British victory upon.
If the end of impressment was the US goal then it was achieved through diplomacy before the war started. The War was counter productive for the US from both the official reasons & non official reasons for the war.
Since Britain had no objectives beyond defense of Canada how was it a British loss?
Eddythebeast666 3 months ago
@Eddythebeast666 It was a British loss. I never said it was. It was a tie. The came to an agreement to give the land they captured back to America. They knew it would be extremely difficult and costly to attempt to take over America. Also, Britain was kidnapping American sailors in American waters forcing then to fight in the Napoleonic War by the thousands. By the way remember the 7 year war? It was America and Britain vs French Canada, and we won. This time it was America vs Canada and Britain
OverseerJames 3 months ago
@OverseerJames Tie? Its not a foot race its a bloody war. People died. Was New Orleans a tie because no land was lost or gained.
Your Economy was in ruins, 6 states were ready to secede from the Union via the Hartford Convention, the blockade of your coast was so tight you had to move goods around by cart. Your Capitol reduced to ash.
The US started a war if you end up worse off then you started out then you lost. All Britain had to do to win was hold the line.
Eddythebeast666 3 months ago
@Eddythebeast666 So what are you trying to prove? That we lost the war or that it ended bad? Are you trying to say that America is... weak, stupid, less than Canada. Because all of those were true at the time ad at that moment. All I'm trying to say is we didn't loose the war, because much of our union was still intact. In fact after the war was over people were still fighting.
OverseerJames 3 months ago
@OverseerJames What I'm saying is that this is a joke video not a history lesson. It is in fact a reply to the Battle of New Orleans song & in the exact same spirit of that song rubbing an American victorious battle in the face of British (& Canadians as we were British at the time) This song rubs the US nose in the fact that the entire war was a US loss. Yes LOSS, YOU LOST, not a tie. We didn't have destroy or take any land from you to beat you. Just send you home with a bloody nose.
Eddythebeast666 3 months ago 22
@OverseerJames Now if it seems uncharacteristic for Canadians to celebrate visiting destruction upon our neighbors then you are missing the point of the song.
Since the 1930's when you changed your national anthem to a song where you cower in your fort as we bombarded you with shells & rockets we have been expected to stand respectfully as you clueless dinks celebrate at our expense.
It seems only as we return the favor in this joke song are catching on how insulting & ignorant your nation is.
Eddythebeast666 3 months ago 2
@Eddythebeast666 Whatever the case, no nation is ignorant, and all have potential. In another note, the simple saying, "two wrongs doesn't make a right" (if true), would make your argument invalid. Furthermore, our objective was to defend that area against a more powerful foe, and we did. You can call it "cowering", but I call it something else. I respect your opinion and I hope you respect mine.
OverseerJames 3 months ago
@OverseerJames Fair enough, I over stepped with the ignorant comment as most Americans who hear this get the joke just fine & while my sense of propriety was offended by the Battle of New Orleans song I did find it amusing in a crude sort of way. ;D
Baltimore by the way was the staging ground for American Privateers preying upon British civilian merchant shipping. You with stood the attack. Good for you but don't pretend you didn't have it coming.
Turnabout is fair play in war & songs.
Eddythebeast666 3 months ago
@Eddythebeast666 If we lost we would have surrendered.
Truth is the war ended in more of a Stalemate if anything.
Americans had the failed invasion of Canada.
While the Brits and British Canada had the failed Invasions of Upstate New York and New Orleans
The only reason people think the Brits won is because they walked into Washington DC when it was pretty much defenseless and burned a building down.
Areallykelwguy 3 months ago
@Areallykelwguy Britain had no ambitions of conquest in The US. The purpose of the attack upon the US was to force the US in to a defensive position.
The moment news arrived that Impressment ended Prévost (Head of British North America) called an armistice hoping to resolve the war. The US used the time to launch further attacks. Which continued right up until reinforcements arrived from Europe.
When that happened the US was forced to defend it self. No more attacks upon Canada until the treaty
Eddythebeast666 3 months ago
@Areallykelwguy No more attacks upon Canada until the treaty ended the war. Its a pity the US didn't give up on the attacks before Washington was toasted.
None of the issues that supposedly motivated the USA to go to war were even brought up at Ghent.
Now if this had been a war of British aggression a stalemate would be a loss but it was not.
Being forced to sign a treaty of peace when your nation is under attack when you started out on the offensive with no gains made is called loosing.
