  • bloody fantastic !!!

  • I remember Tony Blackburn explaining on Sunday evening Radio 1 top 40 chart show what sericulture was 1:06 back in 81 when this song was re-released, crazy what you remember! - 'Sericulture', or silk farming, is the rearing of silkworms for the production of raw silk.

  • I was brought up with this stuff.....bloody brilliant!

    J

  • brilliant!

  • A pure classic

  • I've still got this on vinyl in the loft, lol. Think it mighta been a B-side

  • @grayaj23

Hello there....I love this track too...have a listen to Simple Minds cover version...it's really good

  • 3 dislikes! Who the f**k are those retards?

  • oh, emm, eff, gee

I just heard this for the first time TODAY. I've been a minor fan of THL prior to this, and a HYOOOGE fan of early "big beat" and early electronica. I dont understand why I never heard this track before today.

This ONE TRACK predicts the entire 1980's Big Beat and electronica, post-Kraftwerk sound.

    As I have mentioned above:

    OH EMM EFF GEE

  • OOOooooo I just come!!! Mega!!

  • ta

  • Excellent sound quality.. TOP STUFF Uploader :)

This was the best version..I had a great car stereo and this bouncing round the car sounded so darn good

  • I just watched documentary called 'Made in Sheffeild - about the city's music scene

    They played this song

    I'd Never heard it before

I just listened to it again on YouTube

It blew me away - it's so good

Sounds like something I've never heard

  • oh this is great, its a perfect song for thailand right now...

  • I love this song so fucking hard. I was born in 1979 btw

  • rhinestone cowboyz?

  • I have travelouge now :D

  • Check out for some new NUDE tunes !

    HERE I COME !

  • I've always heard the album version of this song. So this feels hollow. Just my opinion. The LP version is a different kind of funky.

  • I guess this about the queen mother -lol?

Funny in America we get all this news shit about the queen in waiting and we live in America....if that does not speak volumes about the real empire we all live in I do not know what would be as blatant.

We in America are just the 'family' you dread having holiday with and we cannot divorce you because your 'mother' wants alimony that we cannot give up or we lose our bachelor lifestyle to pay our greedy ex.... Just a thought.

  • @katrastrophy sounds like carbon copyismism-s!

  • @qbrikc nice:)

I guess it is too hard to be different when so similar.

  • Awesome song, if you like Human League you should check out new band Cabfire they are also from Sheffield taking inspiration from their elders Human League! i love em! Simular 80's vibe going off!

  • I still have my original vinyl record of this from 1978!!!!

They were way ahead of their time!! This track, I think, was a major influence & led the way for many artists.

    :)

  • @shangrila68 i do have also still my 12 inch maxi single version....

  • Infinite class !

  • I first heard this song played by KMFDM and I liked it but this is waaay better!

  • Listen to the voice of Oakey...

Their new song is called Night People

    Their official website is

    thehumanleague.co.uk

  • so simple - so brilliant ! unforgettable melody!

  • SUPER - Faaantastic ... this was ahead of its time!!!

  • best

  • monk boiled at work listen to:

  • X - C LNT !

  • the first ever acid tune.

  • Raw Muzic... these guys were on the ball... before it kicked off...respect....

  • The answer is simple: Human League after 1980 were composed by just two members of the original band, one of them being the singer Philip Oakley. The other half of the band, without which Human League was of course no longer Human League, went on to form Heaven 17 with Glenn Gregory, and the music production ensemble B.E.F. As B.E.F. they did remarkable things, including some reworking of this early songs, some of them to be found on the album of the "Hot Gossip" dance ensemble.

  • The version on Travelogue is fantastic. I just bought the remasterd CD and it just kicks the crap out of the version on their greatest hits..In fact, Travelogue just kills their greatest hits CD out..I had NO IDEA Human League was this progessive darkwave band...genius..Travelogue sounds like Depeche's Speak & Spell, but less corny. (I love DM so that's ALOT coming from me.) I can't wait till my copy of Reproduction comes. I wish Phil still sounded like this. F'ing groundbreaking stuff here...

  • it slow and soooo cool!!! great!!

  • fuck the

    typo!!!!

  • Yes...I love it ;)

  • @Videodeathtyl

Thanks for posting. Great performance of Human League, among others of them. Just reminds me to listen to "I am only Human" again.

    From Munich with Greetings,

    Lisa

  • oh yeah...sick beat!

  • Love this track:)

  • No, mr offthelinegt.

    Being Boiled = June 1978.

Fade to gray = Nevember 1980

  • i know, just sounds similar :)

  • @hjasfa57 fade to grey :P, English spelling.

  • ahhhhh, uhhhhhh! We fade to grey, fade to grey

  • Jeez! Never heard this early version before. Kicks the butt of TRAVELOGUE's version.

Like everyone else said: "Thanks for sharing!"

    LOLZ

  • WAAAY ahead of the game at the time!!

  • The Human League just signed to UK's recording label Wall of Sound! New material (songs, videos, album, etc.) expected sometime in 2010!!!

  • Much prefer this version to the remastered version. Anyone agree or disagree?

  • Awesome!!

  • think about "gold" and other famous songs, rheingold f.i.

  • I still have the original. Love it!

  • We speak about 1979 . 30 years ago!!!!!!! And so much modern way ahead of their time. No wonder i liked this stuff from SImple Minds till Human League. I adore it!

  • @petrusaloisius 1978 to be precise. This is Being Boiled Fast Version

  • this is my fave version of this song. it was also on a comp album of several artists, forget the name of the LP...

  • Korg 700S

  • Sounds like an early Autechre...

  • If anybody's interested, KMFDM did an amusing enough cover of this song for their new album 'Blitz'...

  • The rarities album released by Caroline has a track called "You Remind me of Gold" which you might like. I like the Oakey / Moroder combo too.

  • I used to think this song was about an egg.

  • is the LEAD instrument a KORG?

  • Korg MS2000 as far as I know. But I got a very very similar sound using native instruments massive.

    =]™

  • korg makes a nice noise ;) ... what are those native ones u mentioned

  • Its a software synthesizer but its amazing and you can do so much with it :). Although hardware synths are always better ha :)

    =]™

  • Roland System 100 and Korg Micro Preset

  • I know they used a roland sys 100 for percussion and some leads. Didn't know about the korg but :)

    =]™

  • i have this actual version the 1978 45rpm version with the picture sleeve showing a drawing of dancers,by an amazing coincidence i ws looking through an old newspaper that predated the single and it had an advert for butlins or pontins in it im sure it was ahem "borrowed"from the ad by the sleeve designer they are very similar i cut out and kept the ad its still inside the single sleeve the b side of the single was called circus of death.

  • YES - this is the version i like. Raw, sharp, loud.....ethereal

  • whoa....this is like......ohmygodd

  • I love Being Boiled. Its one of my favourite songs :D

    =]™

  • is this the originalversion???

    top!!!

  • A cornerstone in music history.

  • @nickesteen It is indeed!!

  • great ***** from me

  • Phil Oakey wrote the lyrics to this song and cemented his future with the band. I prefer this version though, released in 1982 after the success of Dare, reached No.6 in the charts. Great song!

  • Thank you for putting this up !!

  • lol "being boild"

  • Be sure to check out Simple minds´ coverversion of Being boiled.

It´s available on the album Neonlights.

  • WOW!! I will!! I love the Heaven 17 live version.

  • i like this song he is ever and ever great....

  • thank you, thank you, thank you!

  • the early ones are always the best!

  • really nice. his voice sounds tired..

  • Thanks coxy mate:)

  • This song is the hottest and the BEST song Human League ever did! And such great inventive lyrics!

  • holiday 80 was a re mix ,does this help?

  • If you like this I think you should listen to Nightboat by Duran Duran. There's a video on youtube from The old grey whistle test from 1981. Its absolutelt NOTHING like all there other records. Its sort of similar to this. Have a listen and tell me what you think.

  • k i did. similar? no way. cant compare it. This song is cult, dd´s song is just old.

this ones is kinda unique. if you raly want somethin similar, then u will have to try kraftwerk. sers.

  • This version of Being Boiled was NOT the single version released in 1982. This version was on Reproduction. According to the guinness book of hit albums Reproduction came out in August 1981. I actually think the single version from 82 is better than this and I think the version on Travelogue is bloody awful.

  • Reproduction came out in 1979! 1981 is when Dare came out and the women were already with the group. My version of Reproduction (the original) doesn't have Being Boiled...I think you may have the re-release that came out years later.

  • For the record! This is the '78 7" vinyl version & was never on the original "Reproduction"('79).

(The only single release from that LP was "Empire State Human").

This version was eventually included on the CD release of the album in 1989.

In 1980 a version (included on "Travelogue") was released called "Holiday '80"; a double 7" gate-fold including "Rock 'n' Roll/Nightclubbing", "Marianne", and "Dance Vision". Fast re-released this '78 version in '82 to cash in on the "Dare" success. :)

  • Love this song but it wasn't on Reproduction...always have liked the cover of that album though :)

  • This version of Being Boiled WAS on Reproduction. I've got the album.

  • I had this on single and swapped it for the curse of Zounds album

  • This is my favorite version of being boiled.

  • Ein Sound für die Ewigkeit......

  • this song is hot, it could be a song from the 00's, but is from '78 ---- GREAT!!!!!!!!!!

  • So, when was this version recorded?

  • this song is the 1982 version.

  • wow fantastic i love this video version better than the other ones, the human league always been my fav band from the 80s, thank you for the video

  • I have little thing to ask to some expert of postpunk's sound! But what budget had more of that people at the end of 70 and the beginnig of 80?I tryed in that time to buy a little synthesizer but was very costing theyr came out with more good instruments very high in costs 20 or 15 years ago!!!Rich boys???Or the discografic label was take to him that equipment? Please someone tell me more!

  • Human League received large amounts of money from Virgin in advance.Ware&Craig Marsh spent it all in equipment. When record sales weren't as successful as expected they were forced by Virgin to record more conventional music, for the company to recover their investment. They did it under the moniker 'The Men'.As those efforts weren't susccesful either,Virgin decided to let them record another lp as HL.Lack of financial success continued, and Ware eventually left the band.Oakey retained the name,

  • but he still had to manage the money that Human League owed to Virgin.Luckily for him 'Dare' was a huge success, and the company finally recovered their investment. All of them were middle class guys and couldn't pay for expensive equipment.Getting money in advance from record companies was the usual way to get hold of synthtesizers, but if your music didn't sell you could be in big problem.

  • Amazing sound. thinx a lot of kids today claim not to like this kinda stuff coz they real sad they have nothing as coool and original around now

  • Reproduction was way ahead of its time thats all i have to say this album sounds so new as it did in 1978. Not to mention the Fathers of Industrial and Electronic Kraftwerk were also ahead of there time as well. I think the Album is very underrated Reproduction is awsome.

  • Agreed; and throw Caberet Voltaire into that pot while we are here

  • Caberet Voltaire i'll have some of that .cheers pondscum.

  • Nice never seen this before. Thanks for posting

  • ...very cool, besides "Only After Dark" their best song ever, so pure and minimalistic electronic-sound, I know it for so many years and I still love it very much, thanks for posting!!!!

  • Best Human league song, my old band covered this song.

  • i agree their best song , cheers pondscum

  • @pondscum77 this to me is the sound of late 70s early 80s a true synth sound :)

  • cool vid :-)
