This is one of the songs I discovered (thru a co-woker) in the Fall of 2008...It was part of the beginning of my spiritual awakening that happened in May 2009. The sound of Humanity crying out "no more war" is in that saxophone. Thanks Pink Floyd.
@jrbrookshorn I have to disagree. I learned to play this on my sax in the late 80s, still play it today. My parents knew I had a love for PF, and KennyG. I learned by "ear", not sheet music. I'm teaching my daughter to play it now. My parents may not have liked the music but they loved to hear me play it on sax and my brother on the drums. Weather parents like the music or not, watching their kids being inspired in music...they will listen and be proud.
Thank you, Christopher Martin, for turning me to this; I have connected with it (this after only 3 listenings). I will come back many times until I have absorbed it completely. Many thanks.. FV
Gilmour does an amazing job of keeping the songs timed perfectly, so every time you hear them they sound almost exactly the same as the studio recorded versions (even decades later)
I was asked once what my favorite Pink Floyd song was. Simple answer really. Comfortably Numb, and anything on Dark Side of the Moon. The album is just perfect.
I remember chilling in the back of my parents car on a 6 hour road trip to my relatives across state. We decided to drive though the night, and not get a hotel. Just staring out into the empty blackness and the stars, listening to this. Perfect serenity. Everything seemed perfectly clear.
If you are thinking of committing suicide then listening to the mega over hyped Pink Floyd will take you there a lot quicker. Pink Floyd are the English version of the Grateful dead. In other words over hyped rubbish that people go crazy for because of the hype surrounding it as ground breaking original music which it absolutely is not.
sometimes i think the same bro but listen this its psytrance goa ovnimoon-galactic mantra(liquid soul remix) listen that track man peace and good vibes
@DustinShaneYounce I'm right there with you. I'm 21 and disappointed with the "new" music that they're putting out. It doesn't compare at all. This music meant something, not just to the band, but it meant something to everyone. I'm very jealous of my parents generation. They actually had real musci
@DustinShaneYounce Well said. Fuck MTV (or the lack of music). Our generation is fucking pathetic musically. If all the underground scene of music lovers who browse when they're bored and find gems like this got together and were publicized like the garbage getting promotion now, well...we'd live in a better world, obviously. <3
@TheFourRightChords idk if i would say out of our time. there are still surprisingly some bands out there (radiohead i.e.) doing some spectacular things that the world hasnt seen before
This is one of the more under-appreciated pieces of PF's music. No other band, period, could get away with taking such a beautifully crafted song and attaching such dark lyrics to it, and having the whole thing work.
Does anyone know if Pete Waterman, Louis Walsh or Simon Cowell have ever heard Pink Floyd? I recall seeing Pete Waterman on TV years ago saying he wouldn't let any of his acts sing live in concert cos he spent hours tweaking their voices in the studio so they sounded "just right". - - Ha ha just realised I've posted this comment on an Us And Them video :)
Pure chance - I could have ended up posting it on any Floyd video on YouTube - I reckon our greatgrandchildren will still be listening to PF
If David Gilmour and crew want to make more money they can Tour again so I can have one last chance to see this music performed live. Otherwise I am content with the performances available on Youtube.
This is not a lulluby. It's a song about war. Black vs. Blue, you don't know who is who, War is over battle of words. It's us against them. And in the end it's round and round, nothing gets resolved. We are all ordinary men. Listen to the lyrics carefully, it's actually a realistic song, back in the 70s and also present day.
Great music, and lyrics! One of my favorite songs, that can relax me a lot. ! I've heard this in 1975, in vinyl and had some 3 copies, because they went quickly craked after being played dozens of times...
6:56 es realmente impresionante como los afortunados que pudieron ver este concierto en vivo se quedan impactados con la majestuosidad de Pink Floyd, demostrandolo sentados en sus asientos y sin parpadear, que virtuosidad
I know I'm gonna catch a lot of flak for saying this, but this is just outright fucking pathetic, especially by Pink Floyd standards. I mean this is just fucking elevator muzak. They totally lost their edge after Roger Waters left. Just listen to the passion that this song was played with on some of their old bootlegs. Try Live at Oakland from 1977.
Here it's like they're going through the motions. For the money. Roger had the passion, he was the driving force. These guys are fucking hacks.
@TheElusiveBirdMan With all respect, this is the most ridiculous thing I´ve read this year... Roger certainly was a driving force, but you can´t ignore the huge talent of David, Rick and Nick.
@TheElusiveBirdMan roger had just one but very important gift..he could write unbelievable good lyrics...but he wasn't something special musically...he was just good with the bass..
these guys are the best in the guitar(Mr Gilmour)and richard was one of the best in piano..Nick Mason is still one of the best in drums..
so you're wrong my friend..all of them was PINK FLOYD!!!!
especially Mr Davd Gilmour has still great passion when he sings and plays the strat!!so youre WRONG!!!
Theres nothing like seeing them in concert, like it was yesterday, seen them in 94 in Atlanta,Ga.,the division bell tour, love that saxaphone, dick is the best...
