  • This is the building constrution standard in Norway.

  • so what happens when a car hits the wall, I understand that you can keep adding things and make things stronger heck lets build steel walls and so forth but then the only people that can afford homes are guys that sell these straps , and the only thing standing in Joplin is the hospital , barely , thumbs up for a great video though!

  • after seeing the devastation in the Midwest caused by those freakin' demon tornadoes, I think that sinking metal beams into bedrock, with the structures sheeted in 3 inch steel might be the way to go?

  • Yeah they started talking about that 3 weeks ago, but only on new structures.

  • Joplin, Missouri is considering changing the building code to require these safety features on homes.

  • @GLG1957 Are you talking about the foundation fasteners or the wind uplift resistors attaching the truss/rafter? Although both methods would have done little to protect against a EF-5 wind force, they will go a long way to making homes safer.

Check out some alternative methods to anchoring the roof structure using screws. These will be allowed in the Joplin area according to the Building Code Dept.
