  • Johnny Cash turned in his grave :'( wtf have you done Social D

  • is Mike missing part of his left ear? Either a bad camera angle at 1:30 or he was in a nasty fight.

  • @Ducksbyday they weren't dead back in the early 80s. they were kicked out. the only good punk bands left, Tsol, adolescents, d.i., agent orange, vandals, etc.

new social d SUCKS. old social d = good.

and sorry but if you're going to do gangster shit it's TSOL all the way.

  • @Egenoth and social d went into boring rockabilly just as bad religion went on to boring rock. ask around, a lot of people stopped liking them who heared them early on because the original members left the band and went on to more experimental projects. it's not like billy idol or the go gos(who actually imporved on their punk backgrounds by using keyboards and doing some weird soundscape things with that). they actually punked up the stale hard rock and made it sound decent in the 80s.

  • @TheNewMusicNetwork All original members of Social D are dead besides Ness. they arent

    "on experimental projects".

  • @Egenoth but I don't expect some pugilistic loser from an inbred island to grasp that concept.

after tsol's first record they sounded nothing like anything else. So many l.a. bands expanded on punk rock and went into weird areas in music history.

So clearly you don't listen or research this stuff.

I would suggest the american hardcore panel at cmj this year. youtube it, DIY started with our scene.

  • @Egenoth = fucking idiot. Don't talk to me about punk rock little man. I grew up in the socal hardcore scene. There is a difference between that and punk rock(3 chordes ala ramones), stupid.

Socal bands were all over the place, solos. Amazing rhythem sections that only black sabbath could dream of. Lucky lerher, josh freese, todd barnes, etc etc.

Socal hardcore was all about changing punk + it did. Tsol, Adolescents, the vandals, D.I., circle jerks, china white, etc sound nothing alike.

  • @TheWhiteguy89 = typical scene kid poser faggot.

    case closed

  • @TheNewMusicNetwork Well, he's right. Social Distortion went their own way after the first album (which is great, by the way) and that in itself is more punk than those who limit themselves puristically and narrow-mindedly to three chords and standard drum rhythms. Daring to shun others and be oneself is punk, and it is in that context punk was originally used - bands that stood out at their time. The Stooges, MC5, The Deviants, The Velvet Underground.

  • social D after their first record SUCKS. but that first record was amazing punk rock. the rest isn't as punk

  • @TheNewMusicNetwork punk rock isn't a genre of music.. its a state of mind.. and Mike Ness and the rest of Social Distortion are more punk rock than your trend following pussy ass could ever dream to be

  • @SuperPauliewalnuts I may not like metalica but i agree with this statement.

  • Social D still ROCKS!!!! They have been around a long time, my friends!

  • FUCK METALLICA

  • I don't like metallica anymore but as for being a "sell-out". hetfield says it best: "sure we are sell-outs, EVERY SEAT, EVERY NIGHT." as for social D??? they will allways be an opening act....sorry

  • Johnny Cash meets The Clash!

  • Nothing against Social Distortion. I don't mind them at all. I'm just sick of bands that cover other peoples music..Thats what cover bands are for. It's like getting Picasso to paint some replica of some paint by numbers pc. When you have the opportunity to create and be an original artist....Why replicate? Just seems LAZY to me.

  • @bigcynyc1972 good point mate, but bands cover songs usually to show respect to the original artists, plus some bands enjoy playing other music other then their own. I first started playing guitar because i wanted to play the songs I like, but now I also write songs of my own and play them with a band

  • @bigcynyc1972 Usually when a band covers another artist's work... it's made as a tribute. For example Metallica has covered a lot of punk. Mostly the Misfits, but their late bassist they lost years ago was a die hard Misfits fan that would never go on stage without his fiend skull shirt. In this case with Social Distortion, I say they're paying their dues to whocould be considering as the first punk. =P

  • i'm going to see social d in indy next friday...i hope they play this

  • Nice Guyliner! LOL

  • Are you kidding? This is crap. You can't hack on bands like Metallica and green day....They butchered this song. Don't fk with johnny C. You will never do it justice.

I could ,and you could do this to any song....Just takes no talent to do what these guys did to this song. And if ya dare me...I will prove it!!

  • @bigcynyc1972 ....and your talkin shit why?

  • No Auto Tune needed here!!!

  • @darrkstarr1 LOL...just like the original! :o)

  • To kind of add to somebody else's comment: when you're fucking Mike Ness, you do any damn thing you want to do cause you paid your fucking dues - unlike the jackoffs here who rag on him cause he wants to look a certain way. Fuck them.

  • @beautifulsarah100 ...............i am going Friday night to see them in LV, I cant wait of course, and right he paid his dues, he can look anyway fucking way he wants. My son loves his songs that were done before he was born.

  • thumbs up if you think mike ness should change his name to Johnny Clash.

  • @LibraHorse1 Mike Ness is the Johnny Cash of this generation!

  • wow ness really burned the candle at both ends

  • I absolutely love Social D and they've done some some pretty great punk shit back in the day. I've seen them live many times for more than 20 years and I can honestly say that this was most def not their best performance. Mike's vocals are way off and, although he can normally pull off some great makeup, Mike looks a bit like a drag queen in this vid.

  • why is he wearing makeup

    what a queer

  • @Hollywood42 Because he's Mike Ness and he fucking can.

  • @Hollywood42 Oh yeah, I bet you'd call Mike a queer to his face.

  • @ResidualMoneyClub

    hes wearing make up

    of course i would

real men dont wear make up

great cover dont get me wrong thats why i watched it

just dont get the whole make up garbage youre a dude

  • @Hollywood42 You go ahead and do that. I'm sure Mike won't lay your judgemental ass out.

  • Great band good song!!

  • My favorite country song.

  • to those who do not understand the ides of dudes with makeup on stage.,it is (mostly for eyebrows/eyelashes) to bring out the appearance of the eyes more on stage. If you watch the WHO documentary, you will see Pete put on eyelash stuff. Does anyone say that about the Misfits too. Learn instead of speak

  • Yeah! Cash is still alive!

  • this song fucking pumps me up!!! Makes me lift heavy when working out!

  • who yaa master chief

  • ShadowSam13, what would Chuck dave done if anyone even suggested he put on women's shadow, mascara, and false eyelashes (except as satire, which I think he would do because I think he had a great sense of humor) ? He'd put his heel in their chin! That's what!

Remember, we're talking about a guy who "sings" here, and "plays a guitar". That ain't particularly bad-ass ya know. It's not like he's in Iraq or anything. He's a musician!

  • Cool music, the woman's eye make-up is disturbing. Does he know who he is? I don't think so. Is he Billy Bad-ass or Barbie.

  • @chancetoigo1 He's on the same level as chuck norris when it comes to badassery

  • Oohf! I love it! <3

  • Oohf! I love it! <3

  • R.I.P. J. Cash... and long live to Mr. Mike Ness

  • he aged horribly in the last ten years

  • he killed this song

  • mike ness la lleva mierdaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa ª! idolo weon !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! algun dia nos tomaremos una garrafa en a playa weon !!!!

  • bbaaaadddddaaaassss!!!!

  • it sounds pretty good to me for a live performance. live never sounds as good as a studio recording noobs.

  • @9balll I saw him live in October of 2009 and will see them again this coming August. I've seen so many bands live and Social D was my favorite live. Mike Ness has so much heart, it's not about his vocals he is engaging live. You feel like you're on the stage with them.

  • ive always loved social d.....but damn i wish he would quit arching his eyebrows like a woman and quit wearing makeup....i dont care if he shows his age just dont be fake.his music is real he should be real too.--other than that i love social d,always have always will.

  • @straydogg13 He could wear pink pumps and a tutu he'd still be deliciously macho.

  • @lain1074 lmao, well said.

  • ya quiero que sea 10 de abril!!! y festejar mi cumple saltando de alegria con esta cancion... aguante social!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • te banco locatii!! es la que vaaa yo te grito un feliz cumplee sabelo =XD

  • wow what an awful performance, why couldnt he just sing it how it was in the studio version?? I love the studio version one

  • FLAMES! :D

  • DAMN!there old here

  • Every band or musician who plays with an edge pays homage to the great Mr. Cash. This kicked ass.

  • This is a group alot of bands should look at they didn't sell out like green day and metallica

  • @azn182 There is a huge difference between making music which everyone likes, and making music IN ORDER TO make people like it.

  • @atomic116090 actually green days pretty open about their sexuality

  • @atomic116090 Call Metallica a Closet gay again and i'm gonna shove a Broom up your Ass.

  • @Wolvster007 Ok.. Metallica are gay ass pedophiles

  • @atomic116090 Like your Father.

  • @Wolvster007 metallica IS gay.. its outta time and boring. come here with the broom hehe :)

  • @atomic116090 lame ass motherfuckers is more like it.

  • @atomic116090 so is your face

  • Yea, I don't know what the cause may have been, but he wasn't even with his own par. Maybe just a temporary thing. Maybe the years catching up with him

  • screw u i like both of them and social d is my fav band ever just becuase u dont like them doesnt mean u got to ruin it for the rest of us who actually like them

  • @SuperPauliewalnuts because someone's music evolves, they're sellouts? and why the hell do you think metallica sold out?

  • @SuperPauliewalnuts true they didn't sell out, but they weren't really good enough to sell out.

  • @SuperPauliewalnuts thats why they dont make milions of dollars a year like metallica.I know thats sad but thats bussiness.

  • @malistule They do make millions of dollars every year. They always play to huge soldout concerts. their first album still sells as do their others. They just don't get the commercial radio play. I don't look at Metallica or Green Day being sellouts either. Just their sound got picked up more commercially. It's the corporations not the bands everyone needs to diss.

  • @SuperPauliewalnuts they didnt sellout dipshit, you only sellout when you either do it for the money or change your music because the record company told you to. Metallica wanted to try somthin different, you would too if you do the same stuff over and over.

Green day i admit has gone a little bit more commercial but they do what they want. That qhat makes em punk rock. Not there clothes, not by doing drugs, not by wearing punk rock band shirts. By doing whatever the FUCK they want.

  • @SuperPauliewalnuts green day didn't sell out dumbass.green day earned there way to the best punk band.justin beiber sold out.

  • @SuperPauliewalnuts Green Day had 2 independent records before signing with a label (and thus proving that they weren't braindead enough to throw their career away for a title). But Social D must've had way more independent records because they didn't sell out right? Oh wait...

  • @SuperPauliewalnuts How the fuck does a band sell out? seriously, if a band decides to sign to a major label, it doesn't make them sell outs. What makes them sell outs is if their music changes AS SOON AS they sign to that label. I can't speak for metallica, but in the case of green day, their music didn't change when they signed to reprise... and in the case of american idoit and 21st, they had been with reprise for fucking years

  • let it burn motherfucker !

  • interesting

  • Rob darlin' WILD!!!!!!

    Really gets the juices flowin'

are you tryin to convert me???

ha ha -oh oh was that a potty

word I just heard him say .....

  • Mike is like Paul Stanley their voice gets better every concert

  • even if u dont like johnny cash, u gotta respect him for influencing bands like social d

  • who doesn't like johnny cash?

  • theyre like 90

  • Johnny Cash was the biggest influence for Social D

  • Social fuckin' D........ I'm gonna see them this Saturday Oct 3rd 2009 in Cheswick PA

  • I'm going to see them soon can't wait!

  • I dig this band and have for years...but never seen a show! Next time I will now!!

  • It is good, but i think he cant sing in concert very well...But i am a Social Distortion fan.

  • i wanted to cry when i saw that they put this song on rock band. i love social d! ive seen them twice and met mike. i wanna see them again

  • Wish I was there. One of the best covers ever. These guys are the baddasses worthy enough to carry this song into the 21st century ! LET IT BURN MOTHERFUCKER !

  • That is a good cover !!

  • i like both johnny cash and social, but if you want to talk about an artist covering songs cash wins hands down. so many songs johnny performed were not his own, he even said it himself , if he likes the message he's gonna play it, and johnny being johnny everyone was stoked for him to play their stuff, but please remind people when you hear, i've been everywhere, that it was hank snow's song, he was a legend in his own right

  • Johnny Cash had a lot of respect for punk. His music has a lot in common with what punk stands for. He was probably very flattered that Social D covered his (and to be more precise June Carter Cash's) song.

A buddy of mine was lucky enough to run into Cash at a recording studio in Nashville. Johnny sat in with him for a few songs on his demo and talked with him for an hour about music in general. The man respected any type of music that was about expression.

  • fuk ya

  • GO SOCIAL D!

  • I don't like it. I think the original was better.

Johnny was a rebel not a punk so I don't know that he would like this.

  • what the sam hell do you think punk is . obviously you have no idea

  • I know what punk is. It is rebellion expressed through a musical genre. And i was simply stating my opinion, which I am entitled to. So instead of insulting me and my intelligence think before you speak or in this case type.

  • what the people outside of CA don't understand is how tough a ticket the KROQ weenie roast is to get and this is the very reason performances like this i sure dont want to miss them the next time

  • Man you don't get it, and for the record Johnny Cash was stoked with it when it was done! This album that it came from was out in 94 and it's awesome. As far as the make why does it matter? It's punk.. Mike's Punk, hell Johnny Cash was Punk! Maybe you should appreciate everyone interpretations and hard work... My kids 12 and he loves this song guess what he picked up a J Cash cd and now likes that too.. maybe it did what it was supposed to do. Anyone rip on Johnny for covering NIN? NOPE!

  • I give Ness props for covering him back in the day but if your gonna do a cover do it right.

  • I mispoke btw it was 91 I think it came out.. bought it that day LOL..anyways, to many many people he did it justice. Listen to the album version and maybe you'll have a different opinion. Remember everything is different live.

  • actually they covered this first back in 1982

  • This IDIOT does not know a Damm thing about music!!!

  • muito ruim, nada a ver, o original com Jonny cash, não tem igual e nem versão que fica melhor.!!!!!!

  • Please tell me this is a live vid or something because if so I'm deffinately buying it. Most of the songs from this concert are better than the originals. IMO atleast.......

  • mike ness still looks good on stage, i mean come on..he is getting a bit older, and it probably was not the first song of the night...like close to the end, if this was the kc show.... mike f'n rocks

  • NICE VIDEO!!

  • is he drunk? sounds pretty weak Oo

  • these guys are a great punk band but he cant sing for shit live i aint hatin iam just sayin

  • 0:12 start

  • una masa
