As far as numbers go, im at a loss as to which is putting down more, but from the factory, both cars come with similar hp. I love both cars to death. And if it werent for the Mustangs, Id own an M3.
i am great full that they pitted a twin-cam, non-supercharged cobra against the m3. Shows how well the m3 actually is made. i love the 99-01 cobras, and mustangs 99-04, but the Beemers are, hands down, better cars. yeah you can dump ridiculous amounts of money into either, but you could also put a nuclear reactor in a go kart and itd be fast as shit.

@Metrionix It's a Cobra. You can tell just by listening to it. But you are right, it is not supercharged...just like the video said. The early Cobras of that year range were not supercharged and had 320hp stock.
That cobra was a 1999 cobra, it was overrated, Ford said it made 320 HP when it actually made around 305 HP, the 2001 Cobra had the true 320 HP. I would like to see this M3 against a stock 2001 Cobra.

2003 and 2004 SVT Cobras were the SC from the factory; nicknamed Terminators. The 2001 did not come with a SC and falls back to it's younger brothers.
i like any fast cars, i just happen to drive a kenne bell 99 mustang GT but have owned all kinds of fast cars. the cobras in 99 , 00 that werent supercharged were only 1/10 fasteri think in the 1/4 mile than the GT.not much of a cobra, so he beat a GT with some bolt-ons for the most part but a win none the less . two nice cars though!!
My daily driver is E46 328i and E30 325 weekends. 328i is more responsive with Signature Motoring performance (CAI) intake kit. Installed it myself in under half hour. HP increase on the E46 is about 13.5HP for a cost of $170 or around $17 per HP gain. Best 1st performance mod to do. Other application data:

this isn't the SVT cobra..there's no whine from the stock eatens m119 roots supercharger. This is just a mustang cobra (yes they were produced, but relativly small numbers). @ajlod934893 Are you kidding? The price range for an E46 M3 is perfect. You can get one for between $18,000 and $30,000. I'd say that's a great price for 333hp/262ft-lb and a 4.8s 0-60. There's a reason it was so praised by Car & Driver each year of production, it's a great road car and it can also be a track car without modification. Oh, and it handles like a champ. I speak from experience.
@ajlod934893 I've never driven a Chevy Cobalt SS so I can't speak as to that but the Cobalt SS rounded Nurburgring in 8:22.85 and the E46 M3 did it in 8:22. That's the same as the Nissan Skyline R32 and Mercedes C55 AMG. Would you say they're not that good either?

it is an SVT Cobra and that is a stock E46 M3. And sorry to break it to ya big V8 guys, but the E46 M3 IS faster AND handles better than the Cobra. Better powerband, gear ratio, 0-60mph and 1/4 mile time is faster than the Ford.
@M3tor2nR7 thats only true on the naturally aspirated 99 model. in 03-04 when they made the supercharged motors they were quite a bit faster and handled just as good as your little bmw. I have driven both and the Cobra really impressed me with its handling. That said, the mustang is really made more for straight line performance.

It would definately walk a "stock" cobra, if you could find one, but i'd be interested to see what it would do next to my '09 "V" with a few mods i got pushin a little over 615hp. My friends '07 Z-06 has a little over $3000 in bolt-ons and can't stay next to my V. Still the m3's a nice car, and the turbo sounds sick, but i'm just more of an American Muscle Man...to each his own i guess...

So no the M3 doesn't have a better power band. And a stock E46 runs 13.0 quarter mile whereas a stock 03/04 Cobra runs 12.8-12.8. Wrong again. AND the Cobra pulls a 0.91g on the skidpad where the M3 pulls a 0.89g. So you lose. The M3 is an over priced dressed up entry level BMW. Enjoy getting your ass beat.

Dude, I absolutely have driven a modified cobra, pulleys, exhaust, rear bushings, yada yada. It is fast and fun, but so rough compared the M3. Not faster, no way has the track ability, balance or CLASS . As I know from your comments, you have never driven an E46 or E92 M3. I have owned both and I will say this again....No comparison, if you got to drive one you would trade cars in a second if you had the chance. Your gilfriend would too:>

The cobra's gearing sucks, every time it shifts it goes back too low and has to build up. BTW good driving there on a public street, especially if someone woulda turned in front of you.

That isn't an 03/04 Cobra. Like an 01 or 99. Idr when the built the last N/A Cobra but they weren't even faster than LS1's. An LS1 would take an M3 stock for stock.
This was a non supercharged 99-01' Cobra (320 HP) The 390 HP Cobra is underrated big time, a friend of mine has an 03' and it dyno'd 374 RWHP bone stock. Most 03-04's are in the 370 HP range to the wheels. I like these cobra's but, I'd much rather have the M3.

There is something wrong here. Either the M3 is not stock or there is something wrong with the Cobra. Check all races of M3 E46 vs G35, well the M3 wins but it is not a rape. So according to this video the M3 will rape the G35...it will wipe the floor with it which is not the case.
I'm willing to bet that was a '99 cobra that didnt have the intake recall work done. For some reason two thirds of the '99 cobras had a nasty problem of only making 265ish hp instead of 320hp. The cobra is lighter, has more torque and comparable power(330 to 320 i think). Would be guess, i've seen plenty of stock '01 coupes walk m3's in a straight line

What you are missing is that a M3 stock has the quality and performance parts already in it that (with the exception of FI) that other cars like Cobra's ect... have to have added as mods. The stock M's already have exceptionally built engines, the exhaust and intake were carefully designed to give it the best performance. Thats why when you put on and after market intake or exhaust system one one, it doesnt increase HP or torque significantly. In some cases it decreases it.
@owen2023 I agree bro...out of the crate the BMW is the tighter and otherwise better machine. However, if one wants to experience the true nuts and bolts of old-school grass roots motorsports without all the frays of technology and computers....almost a rough around the edges appeal if you will...he or she would go with the mustang. The Bimmer is a great machine, no joke. But it lacks the raw "hot rod" appeal that comes standard in American V-8s. But, you are correct...for speed, its the M3

That cobra was a 1999 cobra, it was overrated, Ford said it made 320 HP when it actually made around 305 HP, the 2001 Cobra had the true 320 HP. I would like to see this M3 against a stock 2001 Cobra.

i like any fast cars, i just happen to drive a kenne bell 99 mustang GT but have owned all kinds of fast cars. the cobras in 99 , 00 that werent supercharged were only 1/10 fasteri think in the 1/4 mile than the GT.not much of a cobra, so he beat a GT with some bolt-ons for the most part but a win none the less . two nice cars though!!

My daily driver is E46 328i and E30 325 weekends. 328i is more responsive with Signature Motoring performance (CAI) intake kit. Installed it myself in under half hour. HP increase on the E46 is about 13.5HP for a cost of $170 or around $17 per HP gain. Best 1st performance mod to do. Other application data:
E30 series: 6.0-13.4hp gain
E36 series: 5.5-12hp gain
E46 series: 6.0-13.9hp gain
E92 series: 8.5+ hp gain
Z3/Z4 (all): 5.5-13.9hp gain

There's a reason it was so praised by Car & Driver each year of production, it's a great road car and it can also be a track car without modification. Oh, and it handles like a champ. I speak from experience.

@ajlod934893 I've never driven a Chevy Cobalt SS so I can't speak as to that but the Cobalt SS rounded Nurburgring in 8:22.85 and the E46 M3 did it in 8:22. That's the same as the Nissan Skyline R32 and Mercedes C55 AMG. Would you say they're not that good either?
Whether you'd buy one or not is another issue, one I can relate to. I still think they're respectable, though.

@M3tor2nR7 thats only true on the naturally aspirated 99 model. in 03-04 when they made the supercharged motors they were quite a bit faster and handled just as good as your little bmw. I have driven both and the Cobra really impressed me with its handling. That said, the mustang is really made more for straight line performance.

It would definately walk a "stock" cobra, if you could find one, but i'd be interested to see what it would do next to my '09 "V" with a few mods i got pushin a little over 615hp. My friends '07 Z-06 has a little over $3000 in bolt-ons and can't stay next to my V. @M3tor2nR7 Haha better powerband. You must be retarded. The Cobra has a positive displacement supercharger giving it 85% of it's torque from 2000 rpm all the way to a redline of 6700 rpm. So no the M3 doesn't have a better power band. And a stock E46 runs 13.0 quarter mile whereas a stock 03/04 Cobra runs 12.8-12.8. Wrong again. AND the Cobra pulls a 0.91g on the skidpad where the M3 pulls a 0.89g. So you lose. The M3 is an over priced dressed up entry level BMW. Enjoy getting your ass beat.

The traction is fine, I have 275's out back with mine so no problems here. I think that its funny that you have to spend 50K+ when I can go pick up a used 03/04 Cobra for 25K or buy a new 2011 5.0L GT for 35K and stomp on an E92 M3. Euro cars suck, get over it.

This was a non supercharged 99-01' Cobra (320 HP) The 390 HP Cobra is underrated big time, a friend of mine has an 03' and it dyno'd 374 RWHP bone stock. Most 03-04's are in the 370 HP range to the wheels. I like these cobra's but, I'd much rather have the M3.

There is something wrong here. Either the M3 is not stock or there is something wrong with the Cobra. Check all races of M3 E46 vs G35, well the M3 wins but it is not a rape. So according to this video the M3 will rape the G35...it will wipe the floor with it which is not the case.

I'm willing to bet that was a '99 cobra that didnt have the intake recall work done. For some reason two thirds of the '99 cobras had a nasty problem of only making 265ish hp instead of 320hp. The cobra is lighter, has more torque and comparable power(330 to 320 i think). Would be guess, i've seen plenty of stock '01 coupes walk m3's in a straight line

Hmmm...the Cobra lost, but damn if it didnt sound awesome doing it! Besides, for the same price as that stock M3, one could buy a Cobra, throw a huffer on it, change out the gears and suyspension, and get 'er dyno tuned, and pretty much dessimate that M3...and still have enough money left over to buy the poor M3 owner dinner since he just spent all of it on his stock ride...I'll take a good ole' American V-8 ANY day

What you are missing is that a M3 stock has the quality and performance parts already in it that (with the exception of FI) that other cars like Cobra's ect... have to have added as mods. The stock M's already have exceptionally built engines, the exhaust and intake were carefully designed to give it the best performance. Thats why when you put on and after market intake or exhaust system one one, it doesnt increase HP or torque significantly. In some cases it decreases it.

@owen2023 I agree bro...out of the crate the BMW is the tighter and otherwise better machine. However, if one wants to experience the true nuts and bolts of old-school grass roots motorsports without all the frays of technology and computers....almost a rough around the edges appeal if you will...he or she would go with the mustang. The Bimmer is a great machine, no joke. But it lacks the raw "hot rod" appeal that comes standard in American V-8s. But, you are correct...for speed, its the M3

BigGee84 you dumb fuck. all M series vehicles are way stronger motors with a suspension and transmission for the autobahn. you can buy a 5.0 mustang throw like 5 grand into it and you have a drag car that will whomp it in the 1\4 mile
