i wonder when people will make a movie that shows something good about mexico. not use what happens in mexico to make horror films. it makes us look psychotic. or atleast they should make a decent horror movie .
The best movie out of the lot- not one for films about torture- but this one had me on the edge of my seat to the end. Would recommend to all lovers of horror.
@deathbomb26 Ever since I saw this movie and realized the true story behind it, Mark Kilroy has become a part of me and his parents who I feel so badly for. God's Love for all three of them and May God's Justice Be Done on the murderers and everyone like them!
If I am not mistaken, this movie is based on the true story of Mark Kilroy. He was a college student who went to south Texas on vacation with some friends and ended up in Mexico. He was abducted by a satanic cult and later sacrificed. The high priestess was Sara Aldrete and she went to the same college I did. Mexico really hasn't gotten any better.
@mccorkle181970 ok dude ur all rihgt on this but it wasnt satanic it was a spin off of paolo membe, a afro carribian syncratic religion the religion got a ton of bad press about this incident
@mccorkle181970 ok dude ur all rihgt on this but it wasnt satanic it was a spin off of paolo membe, a afro carribian syncratic religion the religion got a ton of bad press about this incident
@lancsFrogger It's believable because that sort of thing happens in Mexico. I was born and raised in South Texas near the border and even lived in Reynosa, Mexico for 7 months. Believe me, my family paid out over 80000.00 for my safety. It does happen.
Story based on true events? There is no story at all in this movie, just cheap exploitation about the bad things happening in Mexico today, flavored with "voodoo" nonsens to show sickmaking FX and to keep a bunch of bad actors at work
@kidzara Why hate mexico..... its not the countries fault, they have people that are wanting to do bad, just like in every other country. The only difference is those people are more brutal, and mean what they say, unlike alot of italian mobsters, and african american 'gangsters'.
I've read all the comments here The saddest part is that not all the murderers were caught. The cult had ties to others who were practicing the same thing. Sara Aldrete who IS guilty despite the media attempts to absolve her of the carnage, did state that other altars had been found around that time that were not theirs. This is still occurring and people need to wake up to help to stop this. The victims are young, poor, ignorant and powerless. Darkness fears the Light.
LOL. When they show Galveston, TX there are mountains in the background. I've been there many times & I still never seen any, not even one.
This story is based on Mark Kilroy who was sacrified in Matamoros, MX (The lawlessness land) by some mexicans with a twisted mind. I've been in Mexico & noticed the differences between the two sides of the border. Certainly it was like going back on time backwards, big time.
no this story was said to be based on a satanic squad of cartel assasins that did the killing for drug lords they had a farm and killed people like chainsaw massacre cutting them up the poilice where crazed seeing this i heard about this and saw a video showing graves with heads in them and bodys in other holes they caught like the 2 guys who where doing it crazy
I rented this movie and saw the documentary that came with it. The documentary had a long interview with a texan cop that uncovered the case in mexico and explained the real events with actual footage of the fresh dead bodies being dug out of the ranch by the guy who buried them. I also saw an interview on mexican tv with the girlfriend of the witch doctor/ drug dealer who was ordering all the murders/ sacrifices. She was in prison and her story didn't match with what the police.
@lilbeloved7 I don't remember what the documentary with the cop is called. Rent the movie Borderland and it should be on the same dvd. The other documentary /interview with the girlfriend is called "La Historia detrás del Mito: Sara Aldrete y los Narcosatanicos". That's spanish for "The history behind the myth: Sara Aldrete and the narco-satanists" (narco meaning narcotics dealers). It's in spanish. You can watch in parts here on youtube. I hope that helped.
this film would have been much better had it stuck to a much more vivid reality ala new wave cinema! the scenes of these "all American boys" each with their own specific persona really did the overall concept no favours. i knew it was based on true events and the film is somewhat gruesome but just look what is coming out of Korea, Japan, France, UK and indeed Mexico for gritty realism before 10/10 this American stylised reality.
having got that out the way it is a v enjoyable/nasty experience!
Esta pelicula esta basada en los hechos de los narcosatanicos de la epoca de los 80, las cosas fueron mas sádicas, lo unico malo es que el gringo promedio siempre ve en peliculas que México es un enorme congal jodido y hediondo
This film this based in the facts of the narcosatanic ones of the age of the 80, remains short in the film and so the narcosatanic ones did in fact, only the bad thing is that the us citizen average always sees in films that Mexico is an enormous fuck and suck bar
why are the same actors in a lot of the horrorfest movies, one of those guys is in tooth & Nail and I've noticed another guy in a couple of them too. (The cop in House is in Tooth & Nail)
i saw this movie it was pretty sad the way he got tortured by the guy, also the ending as good cuz it was not his fault he went crazy with the machete.
This movie is based on true events happened in Matamoros, Mexico. Adolfo de Jesus Constanzo sacrificed humans for his santeria rituals to protect the drug lords. He was caught after he sacrificed an american student named mark kilroy, which resulted in a massive manhunt...
i loved this movie, because in the end , the american guy goes mad with the machete, you wanted him to do it, he took his pain out on the bad guy, it was a good movie, the bald guys a cruel fucker, crazy that these things happened.

What stuck out to me about this film was its character development. This movie did an great job with it!
Usually when I watch a movie, I kinda root for the bad guy (yeah I'm disturbed, I know, LOL), but this movie made me care about the characters.
So yeah 5 stars for characters. On the rest however, I think they could have made it a little better and closer to the true story.
