Handcheck does not make the offense harder. Look at it!! Jordan pretty much abused handchecker by swiping his left arm. Once contact is made, he just just jump and shoot for an easy n1.
Ref rewards Jordan for doing that. This disprove the theory that handcheck is a better defense.
Starks did not foul at all. This was just the refs way of saying fuck you to Starks for guarding Jordan so well. Whoever was a ref at that game should own up here. I'll be waiting
Lets scrutinize all MJ's plays like this and you will find what I've always known. The NBA Favors it's best players as it serves them to launch their global market. Lets watch LeBron's career like this too. It's the worst and I hate watching those guys..... NO FOUL!! Starks had Jordan's number and was the only guy in the league that could give it back to Jordan and Miller. On a nightly, I wish guys played as hard as John Starks.
So, at :40 Jordan slides his foot about 12 inches or so, (he probably wears about a size 15). at :40-41 starks looks like he might have double hand checked jordan, but you can't really see it, because Stacey King is in the way. Immediately afterword it looks like starks may have brushed Jordan's elbow with his hand.
It's funny how they won't find the errors of the non-contact till the future. John Starks did not foul him. All those fouls will end up being non-fouls.
You gotta give Starks credit. He may have fouled him, but every night he came out there and played his heart out. No one could d up Jordan better than Starks. Jordan is just unstoppable though.
He did not change his pivot foot, it just happened that it slides before he ran.. but same pivot.. check the slow mo, left pivot, left foot slides, right foot steps..

I was a die hard Jordan fan back in the 90s but even I had to admit he was getting phantom calls every now and then. The only player that has that kind of status in today's game is Dwayne Wade especially against Dallas in the finals.
That's traveling. Jordan lifts his pivot foot before he puts the ball on the floor. It's easy to get create space for a shot when you travel. And that is not a foul.
I can't find the foul, either. Maybe Starks got called for pushing with two hands, but that's some generous continuation. Either way, that's a sick move when you take into consideration all the handchecking going on.

He actually travelled twice on the play. He shuffles his pivot foot when he turns then he lifts it again before the ball has even left his hand. To top things off, Starks is not within three feet of him when the whistle blows.

FunSheng: Sorry, that post was meant for mikenotnumber1, not you. I agree, though, that some Jordan fans do show some disrespect towards other players' accomplishments, and I personally think they're wrong to do that, but I've seen plenty of Bird, Magic and other players' fans do the same thing. Pretty much all the greats have at least a few fans who act like dicks.
No stalking needed. You've posted on God knows how many Jordan videos, and I just happen to be a fan who's tired of reading your comments every time I try to watch a video with him in it.
Also, you don't think Jordan sucks? Then why do you make so many negative posts about him on videos that are obviously going to feature him?
mikenotnumber1: Look, I've seen you post this kind of shit before on other Michael videos where you end up calling whoever you're arguing with a faggot and then go on a rant talking about how much Jordan sucks. How about posting something new for once?

Look pal. I don't hate MJ, I'll admit I wasn't a fan of his.
What I do HATE are these youtubers that label him as "GOD"?
And make it seem as he's on some pedestal by himself, and belittle other greats' accomplishments compared to him. Don't tell me he's more skilled than anyone else that played because I ain't buying it. There are other players that did things on the court he could never do, and vice versa.
MJ is the Greatest, dumbass. Even Magic had said, "there's Michael and their is the rest of us." Nobody could stop MJ, he was unguardable, dumbass mofo.
Lol......and since when does Magic dictate the NBA? Stop bitching, it's a phantom call like I said before. The defender is a foot away not even touching MJ and they whistle him for a foul.
"Delete your life cause I seriously do not care faggot. "
Aww, sounds like someone found some gay porn on daddy's computer when they were 12 and wants to take out their frustration on the gay community. Fuck you and everyone else with your mentality, you homophobic piece of shit.
If it was a no foul or a travel do you not think starks and all of the knicks team, management and fans in the background would have contested it? hello mj had to get those cheap fould cuz the knicks wanted to play him dirty and cheap fouls to try beat him
haha yeah what makes him impossible to guard is that he traveled before he bounced the ball. also that foul came before he picked up the dribble to shoot.
all im sayin is Michael Jordan is a tremendous talent so why do u have to be so negative towards him. He has 6 rings!!! also with the help of pippen. delete your account cause seriously u sound like an idiot, but u do know basketball but dont use it against Jordan, and im not a jordan lover i just think he is the greatest player ever.
u have no life. ive seen u makin these long ass comments all the time and yet i know u suck balls at basketball. you should be humbled by michael jordan because u CANT PLAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! how does it feel to be owned idiot. I would rake you in b-ball so keep talkin shit about the great
This is why Knicks couldnt beat the Bulls because of stupid calls like that. WHY? because hes M.J. but yea starks didnt touch him..nor did he touch him on the way up..whoever said that..this is one of those bullshit nba sissy calls.
bobomber hit it on the nose. He lifted his pivot foot before driving, that's a travel. But ya, he's MJ. He can do watever the fuk he wants an we'll all still love him. Plus, everybody travels in the NBA.
Talk about a phantom foul! This was a very typical scence for MJ. Worst I ever saw was the Portland-Chicago Finals. Portland was better but if anyone even looked at MJ he was at the line.
Man....look at the video, Starks is a clear 2-3 feet away from Jordan's elbow when they blow the whistle.
This is one of the most absurd and 1's I've ever seen. He never got this sort of honor from refs in the 80s, only in the 90s when the Jordan media wave was full blitz.
MJ got royal treatment more so than any other player in league history. He was the media darling because Bird-Magic faded & the greatest rivalry of all time ended. The NBA was afraid after Bird & Magic that the league would suffer so they needed to give the league a new identity. If you even looked at MJ he was at the line. I love basketball but I actually stopped watching the Portland Bulls final. It was the worst officiating ever & it cost Portland the Championship! Complete BS
Get real, Jordan was the most overrated player in sports history.
Sure he was Great , however lets always remember that NO player ever got such preferential treatment by the Refs, you practically couldnt breathe on the guy and the Refs were always there to "protect" the NBA money machine.
Also Jordan was a very agressive physical intense defender , and he rarely was called for fouls, he was allowed to practically Mug guys and there was rarely a call.
guy, I am talking about when jordan made his move to the right, do you not see Starks shoving him on the waist?? Clearly just a late whistle or somethin... that def was a foul. Sorry that y'all hate Jordan and all, I'm not here to try to change your minds or anything I'm just talkin about the play in question.....
Starks hit him on his left arm as he was going up. And he was hugging him before he even started to dribble. And even though they were physical games, anytime you hit someone on the arm when they're shooting they've always called it. I will agree Jordan did move his pivot foot. But if you watch 99% of Patrick Ewing's moves, he traveled too.
The nba hasn't had the same feel since MU left. We've had a bunch of substitutes, but nothing like MJ. secondly the nba lack authentic rivaries. The bulls Knicks rivary or should I say Chicago NY rivary was at its best back then. This is back when I wouldn't miss a game of basketball, but now I can miss several months of basketball and its doesn't even matter. Just not the same magic, but its not bad.
I agree. The Bulls 1998 championship was the end of an era, not just in Chicago, but for the league. No more Jordan, but also no more continuity within a team. Guys are shuffled around so much now, its not as fun to watch a team. The Knicks Bulls rivalry was great, every year Jordan,Pip, Grant, Paxson against Starks, Ewing, Mason, Oakley. Now its about buying up super stars to get a title, instead of watching teams develop and improve over the years.
Looks like they called the foul because (or thinking that) Starks' arm/hand came across Jordan's elbows as he went up for the shot before he got off the ground. Watch it closely. I agree that it was a weak call though considering how they let the Knicks mug him at all other times lol.
There definitely wasn't a foul on the shot. They could have called one before cuz Starks had his hands all over him, but when he went up to shoot starks was about a foot back.
they called that a foul? Lmfao those UNC refs must have followed him from college to the NBA.

Starks only touched MJ's left hand before MJ jump.
It's super star advantage, and Starks was just like Rodman, always got bad foul call everynight.
Just like Artest in last playoffs, Kobe elbow Artest and no foul, also Kobe elbow Battier twice and no foul.
In king vs. lakers series Game 6, Kobe elbow Bibby and Bibby was bleeding, still no foul.
That's super star's advantage, but MJ never went to far.

I agree, though, that some Jordan fans do show some disrespect towards other players' accomplishments, and I personally think they're wrong to do that, but I've seen plenty of Bird, Magic and other players' fans do the same thing. Pretty much all the greats have at least a few fans who act like dicks.
Droog13 3 years ago
No stalking needed. You've posted on God knows how many Jordan videos, and I just happen to be a fan who's tired of reading your comments every time I try to watch a video with him in it.
Also, you don't think Jordan sucks? Then why do you make so many negative posts about him on videos that are obviously going to feature him?
Droog13 3 years ago
mikenotnumber1: Look, I've seen you post this kind of shit before on other Michael videos where you end up calling whoever you're arguing with a faggot and then go on a rant talking about how much Jordan sucks. How about posting something new for once?

This comment has received too many negative votes show
I only look at him as the greatest SG ever.

MJ is the Greatest, dumbass. Even Magic had said, "there's Michael and their is the rest of us." Nobody could stop MJ, he was unguardable, dumbass mofo.
Domini478 2 years ago
Lol......and since when does Magic dictate the NBA? Stop bitching, it's a phantom call like I said before. The defender is a foot away not even touching MJ and they whistle him for a foul.

liweiwu007 2 years ago 2
I think it's a legit foul. Starks clearly had his hands on him before he got his shot off.
Droog13 3 years ago 2
Then the shot shouldnt have counted, and it should have been bulls ball on the sideline. It was still a bad call.

If it was a no foul or a travel do you not think starks and all of the knicks team, management and fans in the background would have contested it? hello mj had to get those cheap fould cuz the knicks wanted to play him dirty and cheap fouls to try beat him
shaq28 3 years ago
mj would score 100 in today's game. That was a foul as soon as he touched him. LOL.
MANOMANO1969 3 years ago
In today's game, the minute starks got up into MJ muscling & handchecking him, it would've been an INSTANT foul..
blackadam06 3 years ago
Wow MJ really fucked with John Starks
Anyway Great upload

Good ol' Jordan. Got away with palming and carrying more than any other player in NBA history. But hey, it's MJ, he's allowed to...
LordBLB 3 years ago
a.i. has been the biggest carrier in nba history. he reinvented carrying, took it to a new level, and called it a "crossover"...
chart3 3 years ago 3
haha yeah what makes him impossible to guard is that he traveled before he bounced the ball. also that foul came before he picked up the dribble to shoot.
alexmigda 3 years ago
all im sayin is Michael Jordan is a tremendous talent so why do u have to be so negative towards him. He has 6 rings!!! also with the help of pippen. delete your account cause seriously u sound like an idiot, but u do know basketball but dont use it against Jordan, and im not a jordan lover i just think he is the greatest player ever.

bobomber hit it on the nose.

BigTimePride 3 years ago 2
Man....look at the video, Starks is a clear 2-3 feet away from Jordan's elbow when they blow the whistle.
This is one of the most absurd and 1's I've ever seen. He never got this sort of honor from refs in the 80s, only in the 90s when the Jordan media wave was full blitz.
FuShengAlex 3 years ago
MJ got royal treatment more so than any other player in league history. He was the media darling because Bird-Magic faded & the greatest rivalry of all time ended. The NBA was afraid after Bird & Magic that the league would suffer so they needed to give the league a new identity. If you even looked at MJ he was at the line. I love basketball but I actually stopped watching the Portland Bulls final. It was the worst officiating ever & it cost Portland the Championship! Complete BS
BigTimePride 3 years ago
wtf are u serious...starks clearly pushed him on the waist how is that not a foul
nkg2323 3 years ago
Get real, Jordan was the most overrated player in sports history.
Sure he was Great , however lets always remember that NO player ever got such preferential treatment by the Refs, you practically couldnt breathe on the guy and the Refs were always there to "protect" the NBA money machine.
Also Jordan was a very agressive physical intense defender , and he rarely was called for fouls, he was allowed to practically Mug guys and there was rarely a call.
The League knew he was their meal ticket
AlanKeyes2 3 years ago
At least someone can see this bogus phantom foul on Starks.
How on earth does someone standing 2 feet away from the offensive player get whistled for a defensive foul?
FuShengAlex 3 years ago
guy, I am talking about when jordan made his move to the right, do you not see Starks shoving him on the waist?? Clearly just a late whistle or somethin... that def was a foul. Sorry that y'all hate Jordan and all, I'm not here to try to change your minds or anything I'm just talkin about the play in question.....
nkg2323 3 years ago
love the pic at .07
pheeeel17 3 years ago
Starks hit him on his left arm as he was going up. And he was hugging him before he even started to dribble. And even though they were physical games, anytime you hit someone on the arm when they're shooting they've always called it. I will agree Jordan did move his pivot foot. But if you watch 99% of Patrick Ewing's moves, he traveled too.
Amir883 3 years ago
starks didn't touch him
docta4hand 3 years ago
The nba hasn't had the same feel since MU left. We've had a bunch of substitutes, but nothing like MJ. secondly the nba lack authentic rivaries. The bulls Knicks rivary or should I say Chicago NY rivary was at its best back then. This is back when I wouldn't miss a game of basketball, but now I can miss several months of basketball and its doesn't even matter. Just not the same magic, but its not bad.
Goukimessatsu2 3 years ago

FuShengAlex 3 years ago 3
starks was pushing him at the hip as jordan began to drive. they just call it late. NYC played Jordan dirty back then.
gdal 3 years ago
damn look at jordan leg muscle on 0:02. Thats wat made him Air Jordan.
EROCC08 3 years ago
Looks like they called the foul because (or thinking that) Starks' arm/hand came across Jordan's elbows as he went up for the shot before he got off the ground. Watch it closely. I agree that it was a weak call though considering how they let the Knicks mug him at all other times lol.
jordanlover23 3 years ago
There definitely wasn't a foul on the shot. They could have called one before cuz Starks had his hands all over him, but when he went up to shoot starks was about a foot back.
