@MasterThief1324 tip: when you upload a video at 480p or more, it automatically becomes available in all lower quality versions. The problem in your case is the audio, I don't care about the image, but the sound is crucial when presenting an piano don't you think?
@LiviuPavel Yes but from what I understand, uncompressed audio requires large amount of space and therefore would take a while to stream. I would want high quality audio but not for all videos so they should make it optional, rather than outright 'forbidding' it.
I'm in the market for my first real kb/digital piano was considering one of these or something less portable (dont really care if its portable or not) like a yamaha clavinova or arius any suggestions would be great cheers :)
I recently played and FP-4 and LOVED the action, but not so much the price. I need a full-sized MIDI controller that can be stripped down in terms of sounds and features but has to have a good feel. Have you come across any other boards with a similar feel to this one?
Man, your fingers are like butterflys on a keyboard. Real smooth. I consider myself a fair piano player but after listening your performance I feel like I'm ree years old:)
The FP4 is a great gear, I might add - the best I've had and it feels like a real thing - the touch and feel is excellent, I think.
You play so beautifully! Expressive, clear and tasteful. Thanks for this. Where did you learn to play like that? I have been taking jazz lessons for only a little while now at college.
The FP-2 has a few less buttons to push at the top. The keys are a bit heavier but you can get used to it. Although the FP-4 is a little better quality the price of it is probably around $400 or so more than the FP-2.
FP-7 has full PHA II keybed instead of PHA II Alpha in FP-4 which I liked even more (personal preference...). FP-7 can play .wav files directly from USB stick by using "audio key" feature and has better onboard speakers but for live situation it doesn't matter since you will never use them.Anyway, the most important thing for me was the WEIGHT. There's a difference between 15.3 kg (FP-4) and 23.9 kg (FP-7) if you have to move it 4 times/week...We should remember it's a stage piano.
For home practice only it may not be so important. In case of piano sound, both of them sounds almost like a grand piano:) If you need 100% realism, go for Steinway Grand:)
It all depends on what you need...Some ppl are very undecided so they can't even choose between FP-4 (which I love) and FP-7 and those two are verry similar in sound and feel. Beside that, there's no comparison between FP-4 and S90 ES as they are both in different leagues. If you don't know which one to get maybe try with guitars...:D
I'm also very undecided between the FP4 & FP7. I've been to the store to compare them 3 times now, and in all honesty the FP4 touch/action/key weight feels heavier/more piano-like than the FP7 to me. Also the FP7 has a very 'hard as granite' bottoming out/'kerplunk' type feel that could hurt. My only hestitation is wondering what the 'big fuss' is over the FP7 - after all it is a newer model, I don't want to be missing out on something! But at the moment I can't see what that 'something' is!.
I compared the following Rolands: FP-4 (~$1600), RD-700GX (~$3000), V-piano (~$6500). Incredibly FP-4 had the most beautiful piano sound (I tried dozens of piano sounds on both 700GX and V, using same headphones). The sound of FP-4 reminds me of RD-300SX sound (which unfortunatelly I never tested in store as it is an older model, but I heard demos of it on youtube). Knowing that 300SX sound is based on Fantom-X sample I wonder if anybody can confirm if sound of FP-4 is based on Fantom-X as well?
Lights never flicker like that on digital pianos. I'm pretty sure the effect happens when the piano's LEDs and camera operate at different frequencies.
Actually, they do flicker because they're multi-color LED's. I can produce the same effect by rapidly moving my hand- open fingers- over the LED's on my Roland keyboard. The LED's are capable of red, yellow, green.
Aaaahhhh, man. You are amazing! Obviously, professional! I'm practicing on and on, fighting with Mark Levine, left hand voicings, scales and son on, but I will probabbly never sound as good as you! Good luck in future gigging!
I agree the FP-7 is superior to the FP-4. The sound is so much better, and the keyboard feels much more like a real piano. They can't really be compared...
wow man you are amazing piano player..i wish i can play like you someday..and i hope i will m m also a musician..jazz musician.
I really feel the chords on the first song you played.. Its something Stevie Wonder would play, you know those kind of chords..jazz soul. Maybe you might disagree with me but that has a Stevie Wonder feeling..anyways you are amazing.

Very expressive playing...wish I could get my fp-4 to sound like that but unfortunately I'll have to do "a whole lot more" practicing! You recorded directly to your computer? Did you have need special software installed and if possible, can you also burn a CD from your computer of what you played? Thanks for any help.
Had this keyboard home for testing. The piano is extremly realistic, half-damper works pretty well. Hammonds with Leslie simulator and variable speed rule although I wish for more Hammond sounds. Other sounds are okay, most effects are more a complement than full fledged ones tho guitar amp, chorus, flanger and slicer stood out for me. GM sounds are ... well GM. It's a great digital piano and Hammond organ with a neat bunch of other features which will probably be used only sporadically.
You must have significant classical background. What is your opinion of the looping, key-off, and half-damper on this fp4? I understand yamaha rules these topics. Need a gig-board.
Just bought the FP-4. I've only been playing the piano for about a year and a half, but played the Guitar for over 40 years. I hope someday I can make my FP-4 make such "Beautiful Noise!" Great piano! Great Music!
Thanks for the demo. Somehow it sounds so much better on here than when I tried it out!! :) I'm trying to decide this or Yamaha CP33? Like the progression from 46 - 50. Cheers.
If you tried it out at a music store chances are anything is going to sound like garbage... from the store noise to the speakers they hook the keyboard up to. Best bet is to go with your own headphones, quality ones at that.
FP7=better action than FP4? For my purposes, if the action and the piano patches are the same, i might as well save the money. Maybe a difference with the onboard speakers too? any advice is appreciated as I am in the market.
I tried the CP33 last weekend along with the CP300. Great piano sounds and superb key feel. FP-4 sounded good but not quite as good and key action not quite as good (only my opinion):)
I use a Roland KC-150 for most gigs although I have done a few smaller gigs with just the FP-4 built-in speakers. Larger venues I run it through the house sound.
Didn't know that Bill Evans lived to see the advent of modern synth technology. Good to know he survives... (just the first part).... btw, yer bop chops are great, but you need a real drummer... much more fun that way. Cheers!
Thanks for the comment. You're right, a backing track drummer just doesn't cut it. I am on YT with a real drummer - type in Dave Sterner Quintet in the search bar. Cheers!
its quite depressing when I watch this. How on earth do you learn to play like that? Can it be taught to anyone ..or is it just a case of being born with the ability??I wonder if there are a few here who think that if they buy the Roland then they'll play fantastically as a result...hmm..a good player can play well on almost any old piano I reckon : )
I am seeing stage and digital pianos between 1000U$S and 1400U$S, and I want to know your recommendation between the roland fp-2, fp-4, roland rd-300sx and yamaha cp-33. Thanks and very nice video, awesome sounds!!!
awesome man! I'm totally inspired. Will post some of my playing when i buy my roland soon. But i can't decide between the FP-7 or the FP-4. Suggestions?
I bought the FP4 for gigging because of its light weight (33 lbs). The FP7 is nicer with more features but weighs 20 lbs more. My advice: For gigging get the FP4 and for home use the FP7.
Sign, I guess we have to deal with these things until they start making portable acoustic grands :-). Like the Roland piano sample, almost bought one but went with the Yamaha for its heavier action. Nice playing.
Please note that it does not blink as it seems in this video. Only the metronome button is blinking in real life.
Best Regards
Ludvig
