Wow, i am left speachless iv heard every live/studio version of animal behavior on Youtube, and i just found this particulare version today and think its gotta be the best one yet. Great recording, great everything! wow i am blown away ! Long live the god!
holy shit, i just figured this was played live! UNBELIEVABLE!!!!!!!! Definitely in my personal top 3 of buckethead's best live performance, this solo is just insane! I bet the crowd just melted after that
This is the most aesthetically pleasing song ever. i feel as if it tells a story to buckethead fans and enthusiastic guitarists reminding them to live for the moment and be who you are
yeah, almost brings a tear to my eye (this music) no words yet i can reflect more on this that anything else. buckethead just spearheads right into the soul
lets put things straight .. this CD is called " transmutation live " recorded in Zurich june 21st 1996 , this track is the last section of the last track on the CD and is called MOVEMENT 4 .. this portion lasts ( as you can see ) 5.26 . the WHOLE track lasts 15.05 . and starts as it finishes with that sorta whoooshing techno sound ( as duz the other 3 tracks on the CD ) ..hope this clears it up .
ps . wang the HI-FI up as far as yer ears will allow ... and be prepared for yor brain too melt
actually this is the last 5 1/2 mins of " movement 4 " from the Transmutation Live cd by Praxis c/w scratch pickles .. the whole track lasts 15.05 mins . awesome !!!!
@Zp33rz You might like Colma. I believe he dedicated it to his mother was ill with cancer. Very beautiful music. If you like that, Padmasana and Electric Tears are also great (from the album Electric Tears).
@sublime88sublime Yea he gave it to a Hard Rock Cafe... But it broke actually before he gave it away :P There's a Video on the Binge Tapes.. You can find it somewhere here on youtube
all he does is follow patterns follow patterns. That's what every guitarist does. It's just like doing math. learn the rules of the scales and music theory, then just shred the patterns over and over.
It's very hard not to fall into patterns, but just another person following them is not inspiring in any way.
@Jackrabbitschnip So...you're saying instead of playing in patterns and staying within a few scales...that he should just randomly play notes? Maybe playing random notes is how you see guitar playing but...its not. What else is a guitarist gonna do it have his shredding sound good? I mean really, you act like people think Buckethead is so good because he knows how to play in a scale. No? Let me make a new comment to explain what makes Buckethead amazing, brb.
The fact that he has such a huge vast variety of different genres that he plays oh so well. 8 finger nub arpeggios (thats when he uses 8 fingers and goes up and down the neck and what not...yeh im sure youve seen him do that, if not...well...go check it). As i hope you know, thats incredibly hard to do. His sheer precision and speed. The amount of albums and songs n shit that he releases, too much to count. I mean im STILL finding new songs by him. He releases like frikken 4 albums a year. O_O
@kinobiheart I agree with you, and would like to add, that even though bucket releases like 4 albums a year, its not the amount of albums he releases, it´s the fact that with all those albums on every single note on every album, he adds all the emotion onto it, they don´t feel like rushed albums, that´s what makes Bucket amazing, and shows his creativity and skill, being able to release 4 masterpieces per year.
Ran out of room again, allow me to continue: The album population override by him is a perfect definition of how much soul he puts in his music. I mean do you honestly expect us to take the word of someone like you as opposed to all the successful musicians who say hes incredible? I guess you know best, huh? Your inexperienced ass knows better than those who've been playing for probably over 30 years. You prob dont even play an instrument. You wouldnt know brilliance if it bit you in the nose.
@Jackrabbitschnip as kinobiheart said, check out Population Override. It is not just the soul Buckethead puts into it, but if you notice in some songs like Too Many Humans, it has no patterns. No single riff, no single solo, no single pentatonic scale (which is what you refer to as "patterns" ignorant asshole). He just plays, like Jazz, where you just go with the flow. So know your facts before you start talking...
@gotinker22 i didnt say that or mean to say that, i meant to say that Jackrabbitschnip thinks that pentatonic scales are the patterns you follow to shred... and if you read my message i said in too many humans there is no "single" pentatonic scale, meaning there is many. Also Too Many Humans is under the jazz genre where you don't really repeat much. In that song he doesnt repeat anything or so i thought. Everything seems to be improvised on the spot.
Can we all just except that too many humans is an amazing song, and get over the scales, buckethead uses natural minor alot, who cares, its an incredibly soulfull song.
There isn't really any other way to shred, and anyway, its the WAY that he follows the patterns/ going through one then going higher changing direction, sliding up really high bending etc.....
whoever said anyone is more talented then buckethead, i would have to see proof.....im not a crazy buckethead fan, but the man is a fucking musical genius...end of story
Guthrie Govan can, if you're into guitarists you should really check him out, im not gonna be judge of who is better, but guthrie plays any genre, and makes some very very good music, its worth a listen, theres quite a bitwith him here on youtube
@CodyA210 it's not related to what you just stated but you should check out dave knudson's guitar work, especially on minus the bear. pretty creative with the pedals, just to expand your musical palette i suppose.

That feeling in you people below is why there are millions of asian kids shredding just like this on youtube. This is just cheesy, I can't picture you guys sitting headbanging to this all serious without laughing. that's not impressive guitarwork. It's nothing compared to jimmy page in terms of skill and creativity, and nothing compared to david gilmour in terms of tastefulness.
Oh well, take it easy - most fans feel like their idol is the only person in the world who can truly sing, or play a certain instrument, or convey a certain emotion ;)
Dude....I've been playing for 34 years and make my living as a live/studio engineer/producer...I can shred, and know ALOT of ppl(some very famous) who can shred but I have never seen ANYONE who has what this guy does. I'm a huge Page & Gilmour fan but I'm sorry their bag of tricks don't go as deep as bucketheads does...granted this isn't the best example of "tasty" licks(but there are MANY to be found here)Buckethead is the most talented, diverse guitarist I have ever heard. Maybe over yer head
@spatdrastik I would like to think that he is continuing the experimental work begun by Jimi.
In any case, Buckethead is such a fantastic guitarist (one of the greatest of all time and a favourite of mine, of course) and each of his notes is deeply moving. His music makes my whole body just shiver when I listen to it, and that, to me, is always the most important thing when I listen to such GREAT MUSIC!!!
@spatdrastik - every once in a while, I come back to read your comment, and I freak out. I love it. I am almost 40, BIG classic rock fan, and early metal. Rhoads, West, Iommi, Wylde.... but this dude, BH -- I just totally have a damn fit when I hear some of his stuff. It is like an intense relation. Cheers.
@spatdrastik I would have to strongly disagree. Yea this guy rocks. But you have obviously never heard of Joe Satriani or Steve Vai. This guys just another one of them. Fucking amazing though :P
@cj5jeep1 Sorry to disagree mate, I like Satriani and Vai too but they haven't got what Buckethead has on his music. He communicates feelings and emotions... he's just one step over them. Satriani's my second favourite guitar buddy :)
@spatdrastik Hey man I totally agree with your statement:) but since you said you're an engineer, which is what I want to do after high school. Do you have any hints and words of advice on how to get into it and make a living off of it? I'm going to try to go to college for it. It would mean a lot if you replied man...
Bahahahaha. I was thinking you may have atleast one ligitimate point that I could see in your little thesis about Buckethead, until you said "It's nothing compared to jimmy page" lmao! Yeah, sorry. He was definitely great in his time!
But that statement was so false and really just makes most people laugh at you. I think you seriously need to delve deeper into the world of music. You can clearly see Buckethead is very expansive in the world of music and theory.
@Jackrabbitschnip Are you a successful musician? I doubt it. Do you even play an instrument? Maybe, but can you play it well? I doubt it. Stop talking about things you know nothing about. Why are you comparing musicians? Let alone 2 totally different styles. Are you stupid or something? Music is made for listening, theres no competition in it. Are the things a tone def troll like you say supposed to be taken seriously? I cant picture people reading your comment all serious without laughing.
There's beeing improvised in every solo but he starts the solo with an idea and far every solo he has some standart licks that he uses, most is improvised though
This specific track is called 'Transmutation 5 (Ascent)'. It's pretty much just the outro to Animal Behaviour. It's from the live Praxis album 'Zurich'.
Forget what the other people said, he improvises his solos live every time and changes them as he pleases, the only reason they might sound similar to studio versions sometimes (which they never really do, though) is because he's using the same scale or pattern or effect.
We'll put it like this, he puts his signature on every solo and being Buckethead, a solo might sound similar to another at some point, it's just his "sound". It's Bucketheady goodness!
@smpl90s that's good, but as long as you don't brag about it because the reason you listened to them in the first place [and it's obviously not for early exposure bragging rights] will be in vain/nullified, or any other artist for that matter.
Buckethead doesn't wear the old KFC buckets no more, now he just wears a plain white bucket, if you've never seen him live you have to, if buckethead ain't the best guitar player out there i don't know who is, but he is probably the most versatile guitar player out there fo sho.
I have been around the block... in the live music scene, not sex :)
I am must say you will have a hard time finding someone who can rip like buckethead live. I won't say should be everyone's favorite guitarist, but just go see him perform live... and you will understand the unexplainable hook and reel he has you on. If only for those two hours of pure bliss.
@arum123456789 what you say is true. The same thing happened to me. Only i already thought he was the best b4 the first time I saw him. Only to find out he is 100 times better live. Trust me folks you never seen anything like BUCKETHEAD. Im hooked for life.
same solo every time....starts off slow.....clean.....hits the fuzz box halfway through and plays fast....then slows down again....hello! journey! neal schon did it....duhh,,,,,LAME
Every band does stuff like this... Look at Jimmy Page, his solo's always started out and ended the same. It does not mean that they are all the same and that they are lame.

Fail.
I see what you're saying, but you don't see what I was.
I listen to loads of Buckethead, mostly stuff from Electric Tears or related. He rocks.
But his playing style is so unique, and the way he organizes songs are almost always the same. Give me any number of songs, with one of them being a BH song; I'll probably be able to find out which one's his without thinking twice.
Pretty much every single song from the beginning of music has a certain formula, verse-chorus-verse2-chorus-bridge-chorus-end or something like that, if buckethead has created his own formula of music why should that be categorized as "no variety" ? Sure, some of his songs include tiny bits that sound similar to another song of his, but imagine composing hundreds and hundreds of songs with an electric guitar, a bassline and a drummer and on top of that improvising every single solo live?
No he's just an amazing player, in ways that I've not heard from other musicians. He'd be easy enough to pick out of a group. Even mixed up with guys like Satch and Vai, he would be easily picked out.
very cool man . buckethead is cool , it's one of the few things that make youtube alright , for me anyway . like on the comments , i goof around a lot and do things annoying cause it's weird . but buckethead is cool . thanks for posting these videos.

I like Buckethead but he is so out of tune here it is hard to listen to - almost as bad as Red Hot Chili Peppers, which is saying a lot. I know it's live so this can happen but wow this is tough to take if you have ears with decent relative pitch.

Fucking amazing though :P
cj5jeep1 1 year ago

ColumbineAssassin 2 years ago
There's a big difference between technique (yngwie, herman li) and soul (wes, hendrix, buckethead).
One day when you learn to appreciate music you might hear the difference.
smpl90s 2 years ago 3
@Jackrabbitschnip Are you a successful musician? I doubt it. Do you even play an instrument? Maybe, but can you play it well? I doubt it. Stop talking about things you know nothing about. Why are you comparing musicians? Let alone 2 totally different styles. Are you stupid or something? Music is made for listening, theres no competition in it. Are the things a tone def troll like you say supposed to be taken seriously? I cant picture people reading your comment all serious without laughing.

yes he improvises all solos
Mirithiell 2 years ago
There's beeing improvised in every solo but he starts the solo with an idea and far every solo he has some standart licks that he uses, most is improvised though
lalalalatikt 2 years ago
This specific track is called 'Transmutation 5 (Ascent)'. It's pretty much just the outro to Animal Behaviour. It's from the live Praxis album 'Zurich'.
bokma7 2 years ago 3
Does he really improvise his solos live cuz that's what I heard
GoGetTheCorns 2 years ago
pretty much
bokma7 2 years ago
sometimes
youricay 2 years ago
its kinda 50/50. some improv, some are the recorded versions. the improvs sound equally as good (or sometimes better) than the studio ones.
thisIStheARTofRUIN 2 years ago 2
Forget what the other people said, he improvises his solos live every time and changes them as he pleases, the only reason they might sound similar to studio versions sometimes (which they never really do, though) is because he's using the same scale or pattern or effect.
We'll put it like this, he puts his signature on every solo and being Buckethead, a solo might sound similar to another at some point, it's just his "sound". It's Bucketheady goodness!

chuckD0Tstax 2 years ago 7
yes its so lame. i agree
Rei6gnIn6Bloo6d 2 years ago 3
LOL agreed! I heard Jordan way before anyone heard buckethead on guitar hero and I'm so glad I was exposed to him before all the hype.
smpl90s 2 years ago

It is something you will never forget.

@arum123456789 what you say is true. The same thing happened to me. Only i already thought he was the best b4 the first time I saw him. Only to find out he is 100 times better live. Trust me folks you never seen anything like BUCKETHEAD. Im hooked for life.

Every band does stuff like this... Look at Jimmy Page, his solo's always started out and ended the same. It does not mean that they are all the same and that they are lame.

So much hate.
You have a point, however. So much of his music sounds the same, it almost doesn't have much variety.
But...
I would care a lot more if every single note he played didn't sound so incredible!
Psycherz 3 years ago
@ Psycherz, even though your comment is four months old:
"So much of his music sounds the same, it almost doesn't have much variety."
LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL
Do you even listen to Buckethead? He must have used every single music genre on his, what, 50+ cds?
That's not variety to you? By all means explain to me the definiton then, because if that isn't variety then I don't know what the fuck is?

Psycherz 2 years ago
Pretty much every single song from the beginning of music has a certain formula, verse-chorus-verse2-chorus-bridge-chorus-end or something like that, if buckethead has created his own formula of music why should that be categorized as "no variety" ? Sure, some of his songs include tiny bits that sound similar to another song of his, but imagine composing hundreds and hundreds of songs with an electric guitar, a bassline and a drummer and on top of that improvising every single solo live?
Win.

@Psycherz How do we know you wont use google? xD
kinobiheart 1 year ago
@kinobiheart
There are no lyrics, that's how.
No he's just an amazing player, in ways that I've not heard from other musicians. He'd be easy enough to pick out of a group. Even mixed up with guys like Satch and Vai, he would be easily picked out.

I like Buckethead but he is so out of tune here it is hard to listen to - almost as bad as Red Hot Chili Peppers, which is saying a lot. I know it's live so this can happen but wow this is tough to take if you have ears with decent relative pitch.
