  • We Wish You Well!!!

  • Mel Galley's guitar playing sounds like ACE FREHLEY.

  • I loved early Whitesnake, but you're right GuitarMartin, the groove is lost when they speed the songs up.

  • man they must have a tight schedule, had to play fast so they could reach the end credits i guess... :p

  • exelente

  • Hair out, balls out, rock. RAWK. I tell you RAWK. I LOVE IT.

  • What a line up!!!!! 3 of the Greatest musicians in time!! Wow!

  • @pindioman Hodgkinson, Lord and Powell???

  • @rascal1410 and Coverdale??

  • i was at this gig and in 1990 i love the snake.why has coverdale not got a mbe wot he has done for british rock music.?

  • Amo, Amo, Amo e Amo!!!!

  • αυτη τη συναυλια την εχετε dvd σπιτι σας....ολες σας τωρα ανακαλυψατε τον david.????? επειδη μου ερχεται μια ''υγρασια'' στο ακουστικο .....

  • Old videos like this bring back fantastic memories but they also make me think . . . one moment I'm partying to 'Whitesnake' and the next moment . . . a third of my life has evaporated!

  • I think this show was at Nuremberg W. Germany in September. I was in the Army at went with 1/2 my platoon.

  • @theyankeeswin714 well obviously not, its monsters of rock at DONNINGTON PARK in ENGLAMD read the title please

  • @statusquo4life Hey mate, don't you know that rock music doesn't happen outside of the good ol' US of A? ? :o) I was at one of the Doningtons (might have been this one actually) we bumped in to a bunch of yank aircrew (they serviced Phantoms in East Anglia somewhere, I think it was...). We mixed Jack Daniels with some really strong cider in a fuel can...we called it the 'Donington Asskicker'...happy days :o)

  • i was there, i was 19, best days of my life, fantastic band at a fantastic event.

  • I was there 19 years old and drunk as hell. I didn't no Ozzy was supposed to be there. The only band i was not crazy about was Meat Loaf . I was stationed in Kaurlshrue Germany good ole Gerzewski Barracks. They tore them down. My company 79th Engineer Battalion spent 9 months a year in Graf building range 99 for a new Apc If anyone see's this and was there 1982 to 1984 give me a holler. @ spiegelsteven@gmail.com . I also saw priest in a concert hall no bigger than a highschool G.Y.M SEE YA!!

  • Great song and great band but that's too fast for me...

  • Wow !!!! Hard rock - blues at maximum level !!

  • ERE'S A SONG FOR YA!!!!!!!

  • @OnTheLibraryComputer Of course, after all they wrote this song and many others. But with this line up Whitesnake would never achieve the rock stardom they had a few years later. The guitarists are good, they have taste and all, but they look like the guys who fix my car at the gas station and play like a bar band.

  • Colin Bomber Hodgkinson was a tremendous jazz bass player, a monster, but he doesn't fit well in Whitesnake. This song doesn't sound good without Neil Murray and his incredible softly touch.

  • Death Metal was just coming in and they were just trying to stay valid, there is even a couple of death screams from Coverdale, maybe it was the coke,Ian Paice should know better, cause he is one of the very best.

"Whtesnake is a vechile for roll n roll and its MY job to drive that vechile"

  • Whats the rush .. did they have a plane to catch ? One of my fave songs ever, but not at this tempo.

  • @davemis40

Completely agree, Dave. The song is totally destroyed by the ridiculous pace. This band was already on the way down by then and just got steadily worse afterwards. Coverdale's singing is also awful here. The highlight of Whitesnake was the band from 3 years before, with Bernie Marsden.

  • @tonyrome67 "coverdale's singing is also awful here"

are we listening to the same concert I wonder?

  • my first donnington xx i was so impressed!!

  • BEST SONG is World Gold is fool for your loving yah i am crazy . thanks. fool for..........

  • i was there

  • THE BEST

  • Mel looks like he should be playing with Jimmy Buffet

  • killer voice!!!!

  • are you fucking kidding me with this version?

  • OMFG slow down...... why did they up the tempo... Blues isnt meant to be 210bpm!

  • @Mjollnir1990 I don't know why people gave you thumbs down. It's true guys, Cozy Powell ruined the old songs because he played everything too fast!

  • Thanks Bessa! Merry Christmas!

  • I was there and fortunately lived down the road in Clifton and remember the traffic jam trying to get out on the CX 500. Memories are a good thing.

  • Mickey Moody is a fantastic player. I wonder what he's been up to lately

  • i love this band, seen em loads of times, i was there in the crowd for this, brings back so many memories

  • I think dc is a great singer, but at least half of his live performances are plum horrible and very out of tune. Its like... well... tonight ill sing good, next time ill sing out of tune and only sing part of the song. When hes on his game though he is an ausome singer.

  • too fast!

  • i was there

  • David do céu, tá feio hein mano! Tudo semi-tonado... e olha que vc é um dos melhores do mundo...

  • the guy playin the les paul looks like he should be at a cricket match

  • Are you sure this is 83?

  • Yes August 1983. Not long after this Mick Moody left to be replaced by John Sykes and Colin Hodgkinsin would be replaced by original bass player Neil Murray.

  • Isn't Colin already playing on this one?

  • David Coverdale makes me crazy. I have to say. :)

  • s2s2s2

    David was awesome there!

  • when ws fucked everyone on their way.....

  • you are dead...oh i am so glad

  • Please remove those comments which say if you don't do something you will die, they are so silly!!!

  • What ridiculous hippie guitarists... Long live to Sykes/Vandenberg era - not this crappy "the 70's show" bar band.

  • @xuxis2008 go to hell. THIS is Whitesnake, not that faggot hair band of the late 80s.

  • Sorry to tell you the truth, pal. The real Whitesnake, the one that became world wide famous and sold gazillion albuns IS the 1987 one. Besides, I dont' think you know anything of music, do you? Your are judging the band by their hair? What the fuck is this? Sykes can play circles around those derivative pentatonic blues players.

  • @Kostas4e If you don't remove your comment you will die hahaha

  • Please... What's the name of the song in the end of this video ?

  • it´s a bonus track of the Whitesnake´s album "Love Hunter"

  • We wish you well

  • Comment removed

  • Hottest singer on Earth.

  • Great!

  • This was not the best I've seen. They played a little too fast for my taste. Mr. Coverdale seemed a bit out of tune from time to time, as well.

  • And of course I almost forgot John Miles, and John Wetton,

  • I would like to add to that list! Steven Tyler, Brad Delp, Jeff Lynne, Freddie Mercury, Elvis, John Lennon, Geddy Lee, Not Necessarily In That Order.

  • In June i will be reliveing this moment at the exact same location. DOWNLOAD 2009! WHITE FUCKING SNAKE!!!

The best 3 singers ever are in no order -

    Rob Halford - METAL GOD!!!

Ronnie James Dio - Little man, Powerfull voice

David Coverdale - Need i really say a word lol pure genius!

  • And I wish I could be there!!!

  • 1st is Dio, then Freddie then all others....

  • I'm going to see Dio next Wednesday... I can hardly wait.

  • 2nd best vocal EVER

    (1st is Plant)

  • his vocal is some similar dio. haha

    whatever not bad singer.

  • Guarda el tempo!!!!!!

  • I met Barnie Marsden a couple of weeks ago was playing a gig in a pub in Dublin with Pat McManus from the Mama's Boys he's a cool guy

  • was that the lamb he was in? :)

  • yeah the Slaughterd Lamb in Swords

  • savage. i missd dat nite unfortunately!! bt i hope pat mcmanus plays der again soon wit him! do u know wen pat mcmanus is playin again?

  • Were they in a hurry? Tight schedule I guess...

  • he was in a hurry to fuck the girls on the front row is what it looked like lol

  • cozy powell,s drum solo was the high light of that day,it had helecopters flying above, sweeping low and all to the tune of the dambusters music, rip all former members not with us

  • As much as I like Adrian Vandenberg and Viv Campbell in the late 80's line up. I think the original line up was the best.

  • I do Agree that this is the worst version of this song i have ever heard and i have heard them all.Nevertheless the concert in general was a+++.The best from that era or maybe any era/lineup.

  • john lord!!!!!!!!!!!! \\m//

  • RIP Mel Galley. Gone but not forgotten.

  • The CLASSIC lineup of Whitesnake. 'Shame he can't sing any more....

  • worst version ever.

  • Coverdale one of the greatest rock vocalist ever.

  • ik was daar bij het was top

dit jaar bij arow was het ook top.

maar kiss daar ging ik voor de toppers.

  • Hyperspeed version... wow

  • WAS THIS IN GERMANY .

  • castle donnington. ENGLAND.

  • I miss Mr. Powell :'( He was damn good

  • Coverdale owns Robert Plant. Hands down

  • wtf roger glover?

  • sin duda la mejor epoca de whitesnake

  • I Whitesnake e gli Europe il 23 luglio 2008 faranno un concerto a Palazzolo sul Brenta(PD). Inizieranno a suonare Live alle 21.30 all'anfiteatro Camerini! Chi viene al concerto con me???

  • who cares if it is 1.5 times faster just remember the man and his talent the funeral is tommorow rip mel i throw my pick to you from one guitar player to another rip mate

my love to all the family xx

  • Whitesnake have been dedicating "Love Ain't no Stranger" (he wreote it) to Mel every night on this tour (even before he passed away). RIP Mel.

  • Great song and performance:)

  • Yes R.I.P. for the man. I would really have hoped that the band paid some memorial to him when they played in Athens the other day.

  • R.I.P. Mel Galley

  • you are right kar.

  • i think that it is faster than normal

  • best classic rock song ever!

  • Awesome! I remember it well!!

  • fuckin legends :D

  • If anyone's on Facebook there is a group set up simply called 'Monsters of Rock', dedicated to the festival at Donington. Please search and join!!

    Tc

  • maailman paras laulu.

  • tooooo fast but i was there and i was only 13, great stuff

  • Mickeylove01 you didnt copy that remark from jon lord did you?

  • david coverdale is from yorkshire. he was on loose woman last week. hes still as sexy as ever but with some surgery done...........lol.

  • I wonder how long it took him to get rid of his brummie accent and turn it into some kind of James Bond style accent?

  • HERES A SONG FOR YA!

    damn right lol

  • great to see .also a true live performace.the dvds these day are over poduced in the studeo

  • Bloody 'ell - bizarre to think that, at the tender age of 14, I was in the audience.

  • Way too fast - the bass player can hardly keep up... Too much speed - hehehe. Great song tho. Love the little video effect at the end when he's holding the mike stand ;-)

  • this is great, but i perfer the new version from live in the still of the night dvd :)

i saw whitesnake 2x live, and they were fucking amazing !

  • no, they did it for Ready and Willing, which was 1980. I have the (UK) EP single, with Mean Business and Don't Mess With Me on the B side.

  • it,s on live.... in the heart of the city as well.

  • exactly, and on there it's from the shows on 23/24 June 1980. Some people on here need to study their history books, jeeeez

  • This was Donnington 1983 (A Fantastic Night)

Whitesnake/Meat Loaf/ZZ Top/Twisted Sister/ Diamond Head. I remember someone set light to a tree during Meatloafs set, the smoke blew onstage and he had to stop until it cleared. But most of all I remember Cozy Powells drum solo (Flames and all).

  • Here's a song for ya!

  • is there a DVD with the whole show?

  • This was from 83 i was there back then

  • you're a fucking idiot!!

  • This was a great classic lineup and you guys can argue over which guitar player is better. However, let there be NO DEBATE...there was no better drummer than COZY POWELL. I get all these new metal heads telling me about Joey Jordinson...I hear the Neil Pearts, Mike Portnoys, Terry Bozzio....FUCK THEM Cozy was and always will be the man, period, end of story.

  • Saw Whitesnake at Newcastle City Hall 1984 it was the 1st gig I ever went to and what a night!they were a tremendous band in their day.

  • I was there too, it was a great day!

  • Hey, I was there!

  • Qué suerte!!!!!

  • My dad was there :)

  • Same here, JOIN THE CLUB!

  • I was 17 years old, It was my second donnington festival. What a day.

  • my dad was there

  • Best version of this song. "Meaner" and ballsy than the Vai version, thats more fizzy sleaze pop.

  • wow! that rhythm guitarist looks sooooooooooooo like santana!

  • i wonder why carlos santana was playing for whitesnake? seems an odd combination, but i notice he didn't play lead in this song

  • He didn't play lead cos he was not there, I was however and the guitarists were Mel Galley and Micky Moody

  • wow! that rhythm player looks alot like santana! i thought it was an odd mix. awesome concert though, lucky you, you bastard :)

  • myspace/neilmurraybass

  • a bit too up-tempo, but ok --- so what happened to Neil Murray then?

  • For me Donington 1983 is one of the best concerts Whitesnake...

  • think it was mel gally on lead.

  • You are correct sir.

  • I saw all the early MoR gigs. I didn't know this had been filmed. They had helicopters come over as part of their show - shining lights down on to the crowd. I spent a good portion of this set smacked out in the medical tent. It would be good to get the video and see just what it was I was listening to.

I remember the gig programme had pictures of Whitesnake dressed in army fatigues. They looked very corny. That was the 80's though.

  • Hey, thank god for that, I thought I had taken some bad shit that day! The helicopters came over when Cozy did his 1812 Overture drum solo, 4 of them, hovvered over the PA , (Donnie' has 4 PA stacks/towers), and flashed their lights in sync' to the sound being switched from one stack to another!

for years I really thought I had dreamt that bit!!!!

  • I was there too, and had the same experience.

Great to hear the music go round and round.

  • Why? Are you posting this crap for? matthew hayden has nothing to do with Whitesnake. Stupid people do stupid crap

  • this song is fkin ace

  • Fastest? Steve Vai owns those guys.

  • he´s refering to the tempo of the song, not the widdly widdly bits in the solo.

  • like your girlfriend told you......sometimes fastest isnt the best

  • Steve Vai ???? - You know nothing ...

  • Excellent. I was at that gig, took 2 days to walk there , but I thought it was Berne Marsdon on Git. Saw him recently still looks the same minus boiler suit.

  • no one gets the vib and feeling of Bernie.

not enough material about that age

    great uploading and thanx

  • tits

  • its monsters of rock 1983... i have the vhs

  • me too!!!!

  • Is this Saints and Sinners or Slide it In tour? The line up is the second one.

  • i agree maybe they were on goeey??thanx for video RIP COZY

  • They were playing most of the tracks too quickly at this gig! I remember having the VHS. Check out Walking in the Shadow of the Blues, elsewhere on YouTube, for more evidence!

  • Oh man that its amazing, and i remember that video. (Saint and Sinners tour)tks man!

  • A very dynamic performance, and the fastest as far as I know.
