  • @rev1080 Are you an idiot or an asshole? Either way get over yourself you silly prick.

  • @scottishconfederate Of little or none interest, your posts are soiling the page. Fare thee well.

  • awesome

  • What a movie ?

  • I know the second part of the video has scenes from Alatriste? What movie are the scenes with the mounted arquebusiers from?

  • OK. According to my knowledge (armed with a Historian Phd. diploma) the Middle Ages ended in 1640 "officially" with the start of the English Civil War. Renaissance is not a time period, but a cultural movement, which began in Italy in the 1300's and lasted until about 1630 in Western Europe. (in East-Central Europe much later) The word itself means "rebirth" (rinascimento-in italian). This cultural movement affected religion, art, philosophy and politics as well. as science.

  • @MrAttilatheHun So happy to see a colleague in History...well, I totally disagree with your final date of the Middle Ages. It simply doesn't make any sense to me.. 'course any date we can choose it's a conventional date but, 1640? Thirty years war still on the move, the baroque already changing itself in rococo..can we still talk of Medieval age in the 17th century? I disagree.

  • @MrAttilatheHun Anyway, all you said about Renaissance is true, but I just thought that "Renaissance" was also a word that: "...has been much debate among historians as to the usefulness of Renaissance as a term and as a historical delineation" -Brotton, J.,The Renaissance: A Very Short Introduction, OUP, 2006. so I intended it more as a "history segment" than a cultural movement.

  • @MrAttilatheHun The Middle Ages ended with the fall of Constantinopolis in 1453.

  • @MrAttilatheHun It's interesting to see that in other countries historians end Middle Age before: we (France) end it with the fall of Constantinople and with Colombus' discovery (and I think they end it differently as well in Germany??). And Renaissance is considered a time period for us (perhaps because Renaissance was more important in our country, beeing closer to Italy than England). Also, I agree we can argue on this one.

  • Can anyone tell me what movies were the scenes in this video taken from? Looks very good, you rarely see squares of pikemen depicted in movies nowadays...

  • Namely "Profession of arms",and "Alatriste".

  • This music (By Antonio Vivaldi, piece entitled Storm) Is Baroque which was a period after the Renaissance...

  • This video is great! Where did you get the scenes from? people who are arguing whether or not this is the renaissance are retarded. The renaissance was a paradigm shift toward secularism and a revival of classical culture. It really had very little to do with the military or warfare.

  • Husaria i wszystko jasne kamień na kamieniu nie zostanie;]

  • Inspiring, truly haha yesss thanks

  • what movie(s) is this from?

Which movie was it first?

  • Excuse but were is the footage of the snowy battle from?

  • Man, that's not renaissance, those are the last days of the middle ages.

    Gunpowder doesn't mean renaissance

  • @Willthemusikfreunde Yes it is, the whole way they use tactics and combat reeks of rennaisance, besides there were still people thinking on the old ways during the start of the rennaisance, like knights and such.

  • @Willthemusikfreunde Well... give me a date for the beginning of the renaissance. -of course a general, conventional, date bacuse we can "get it started" in different years for each country- ... anyway, the engraves are all referred to late XVII sec. soldiers; both films are about events and battles of XVI-XVII sec. so... not in the medieval ages. From centuries... In my opinion we can choose the 1453 as the end of the middle ages: the fall of Costantinoples, end of the hundred years war...

  • @Willthemusikfreunde

That is renaissance. All of that looks like it definitely fits within the late 16th and early 17th century to me. It is definitely not high medieval period.

  • @Willthemusikfreunde Well this looks like 1500s is 1500s still the middle ages?

  • @Willthemusikfreunde well it were a big explosion of technology and change the warfare, but renaissance as you might it is prolly only art and sutch right ?

  • This Video is a Mix. Some Scenes are Mediaval-Gothic, 15th cebtury, others are Renaissance, others are early Barock, from the Alatriste Movie.

  • @Thorgalaquiladraco No one scene from any of the films or any of the engraves are from 15th century ;-)

  • that you that blow at his fuse, the guys with the gun.. looks like viggo mortensen??

  • what was dominating in the renaissance era sword and shield or guns

  • @redguy1171 - Idealistic men.

  • @emmthreejonny i mean in warfarre

  • @redguy1171 Guns, as sword and shields were outdated by then.

  • @PanzerJensen aight thank you but my history projeccts was over loads of days ago

  • I wish i could read some responses to this nice video instead of an argument.

  • @bookercreator Thank you, I've fixed it...enjoy!

  • @ertramontana so were all the war scenes from Alatriste? Nice vid though! It's a shame the film industry doesn't do the Renaissance era more justice, aside from Romeo and Juliet. It's always medieval, medieval and more medieval...

  • @Ismailikov Thank you :-)... no, part of them are fron the italian film "Profession of arms" by Ermanno Olmi. The film is about the last days of Giovanni de' Medici a condottiere -mercenary general, in poor words- that in 1525 was operating under papal banners in North Italy, harrassing the german imperial army...

  • @ertramontana I want that film so much, but only saw it for like 30 Euro in one DVD store I know. Apparently it's 'rare' :/

  • Wonderful pictures and music! what is the name of the song?

  • @El7IncA by the way italy didnt exist...it was part of the Spanish Empire. what about you learn some history before writing none sense. dont reply to me cuz i wont

  • @royalplaylist102 sorry but i live in America, and i Speak Spanish and german...lol

  • Thanks SPAIN! for Discovering America...The Paradise!...thanks to you im here!...VIVA ESPANA!...

  • @El7IncA LOL I dont think Native Americans were that found of Discovery of America tough xD. And Spain? EH We portuguese knew about America long before anny Spaniard did we just werent intereset in it and if I remember correctly it was Vikings that first Discover America

  • @ImperialGuard9001 sorry but it was Spain who Discover America, and it was the Spaniard who name the new world AMERICA!...VIVA ESPANA!...

  • @El7IncA actualy it was in Itlaian, but he couldn't have done it without the support of the Spanish crown

  • @ewbecht italian who was italian? cristobal colon?. Spaniards and American scientist confirm that he is Spaniard and he was born in Spain Catalonia and his letters were written in Spanish and Catalan, and I even read an english newspaper where it says The Christopher was not italian but Spaniard Catalan, and one of his letters it says in Spanish, when somebody asked him where do you come from? and he reponds "De La Nada", which in spanish means I came from nothing!..nigger!, the true is reveal.

  • @ewbecht italian who was italian? cristobal colon?. • @El7IncA There are many conflicting stories, if heard he was Grreek, Italian, Portuguese, and even the son of an exiled Polish king in hiding, but never that he was Italian. The ture is reveal, if you want to insult me, do it correctly. And how does his saying "de la nada" prove he was Spanish? Just an irrelevent fact.

  • @El7IncA Come on, man! Don't need to be racist about it. Spanish tercios were catholics, they wouldn't want you speaking like this.

  • Thanks "SPAIN" fos Discovering America!...

  • Vivan los Tercios de Flandes!!

Viva El Duque de Alba !

  • @younandotube666 Don't say it in Holland! ahahahaha!

  • @leonnato90 Maybe... But it was the history... We had the most powerful army at that time. This time is past. Vivan los Tercios !

  • @younandotube666 I was only joking ;-) There in no doubt that the spanish soldiers were the best infantry for 2 centuries!!! I agree with you.

  • il Mestiere dell armi is the Ermanno Olmi Movie about the last days of Giovanni delle Bande Nere

  • Scenes included from the Spanish movie "Alatriste"

  • I wonder when someone will make a good Movie about the Bloodiest "Civil" war in Europes history, The 30 years war in Germany. it started out as a Civil war but quickly turned out to a European battlefield where every nation close by tried to take some landparts and such.

  • @joonte1010 That would be amazing, but sadly hollywood ruins everything, even history, specially if Roland Emmerich is involved, ¿can you imagine the casting of such movie? Megan Fox as the atraction of the movie, Javier Bardem as Philip IV of Spain (for some reason hollywood thinks that all spaniards of any time look like him), Depardieu as Richelieu and again Javier Bardem wearing a wig as Velásquez, etc.

  • @sciprio1 ...and this is even more true!

  • @joonte1010 And can you imagine an european movie about it? It problably would have lots of sex and free nudity, weird pseudointellectual dialogue and no war at all (to save budget, you know) it will also problably be in black and white.

  • @sciprio1 HA! ahahahahahahah!! Sadly true...

  • @sciprio1 HA! ahahahahahahah!! Sadly true...

  • Mistiere delle Armi is the only film i have about the Landsknechts & Renaissance it has some great scense but battles r cut too short :( The other film alatriste, is it any good??? looks great from the pike scene.

  • igñigo balboa

  • Los tercios Españoles la mejor fuerza terrestre durante 150 años, nada podia romperlos nada podia pararlos, todo lo rompian y todo lo paraban. Viva mi patria España! un saludo.

  • what is the movie at 1:25?

  • what movie is this from?

  • Films, movies : "In Mestiere delle armi" & "Alatriste"

  • good videp...fastantic song....love it...

  • "Thank you Spain for Discovering America"...

  • what film do they use in this vid?

  • Absolutley beautyful: good mix of old images and films.

  • Santiago y cierra España !!

  • Sehr schönes Video

  • The spanish ancient Tercios.

  • Renaissance war with baroque music...

  • Tienes razóóóóón!!!!!!!!!!! :-))))))))))))

  • @Febiadf yeah... pretty rare...

  • @Febiadf not baroque music ..

  • @Febiadf

It could have been worse, rock music with renaissance war...

  • i see they used the PHALANX formation once again...i knew the phalanx formation was very effective...

  • @brightside213, until gun powder made mass infantry formations futile, & specially better faster shooting and longer range, more accurate guns. But the classic formations were still good until that point on time.

  • "Que Viva La España Inmortal"....

    greeting from Canada Vancouver.....

  • perdimos la armada por una puta tormenta no por los asquerosos piratas ingleses.. que como dicen por ahi, eran mejores que los corsarios pagados por la puta isabel I.... FUCK THE QUEEN!!!!

  • what movie is that????????

  • One of them is Alatriste with Viggo Mortensen. The other one in the beginning and the end I do not know.

    Cheers

    Robert

  • The other movie is "Profession of Arms", a 2001 italian movie by Ermanno Olmi, possibily the most accurate Renaissance (1510's) movie ever. It features the last days of life of GIovanni De Medici, the last great "condottiero" (mercenary warlord) of that age. Very good movie, show how is possible to make great cinema value with limited budget and no CGI at all.

  • Thanks for the info. Hopefully I can get it in Sweden.

    /Robert

  • what is this from?

  • VIVA SPAIN!!!!!>...u fucking dirty french motherfuckers....dont forget....that the english pirates. and frenchis....were allies with the muslins ottomans....againts....THE SPANIARD INVINCIBLE ARMADA!!!>...

  • yeah well fast track to 2009 and well... hate to say it mate but your "INVINCIBLE" armada was completely destroyed by us "pirates". I gess news of your defeat 1588 has not reached you yet.

  • not even one third of the sunk ships were sinked by the british or pirates and it was the britsh who gaver that name after many battles the armada looked untouched and if u want to talk about loosin look at the battle of cartagena de indias you failed so misirable that the queen forbided anyone to speak about it under penalty of death

  • ur such a typical anti british retard, stop dwelling in the past of out nations and lest think of the problems that face us now like the growing hatred of the west (thats you and me) by the growing Islam extreemists.

  • and that defeat was retourned by us to you in cartagena de indias, a more massive meritorian victory by us 6000 spaniards+600 indian archers against 25000 english+jamaicans and near 200 ships, but you always hidding your mistakes, thank you basque blas, we never forget you. remember cartagena, a very meritorian victory, not as 1588, say thank´s to the heaven. Even you deleted the money created to conmemorate the victory before this happened, buuhahah, pure arrogance.

  • Los piratas eran mejores que los corsarios a sueldo de la puta Isabel I

  • Invincible Armada? Surly you either jest or you are plainly ignorant to all historical facts. How many "invincible armadas" did you lose between 1588 and 1719? Quite a few. And the Spanish Empire was one of the shortest lived empires ever. Its total destruction brought about by a bunch of impoverished island European rejects. Not to mention you have had your ass handed to you by both the Italians and French. Not something to be proud of.

  • ¿"shortest lived empires"? Spanish empire lasted from 1521 to 1898, 377 years and maybe more if we count spanish possesions in Africa, ¿is that short? Mr. Know-all.

  • Spain was a dwindling empire by the late 17th century and in complete decline through out the 18th century its territories either in revolt or having been taken by the Dutch, French and English. Napoleon's conquest of Spain completely ended any Spanish "Empire"

  • What are you talking about? by the 18th century the continental portion of the spanish empire in America was intact, obviously there were revolts like "Los comuneros" but not real menaces for the spanish domination. Otherwise french, dutch and english only took some insignificant islands (well, not Jamaica) in the caribbean, they never took anything big in the spanish part of the continent.

  • This is true. The problem came on the XIX century, when we lost Cuba and all the non-insular islands

  • @scottishconfederate

i understand your envy about the great empire that spain was, its ok friend

  • ¿When did the french defeat Spain in a frontal war?: the war of the spanish succession was an international confflict and, at the same time, a civil war; the french invasion of Spain during the napoleonic era, was an act of treason because Spain and France were allies so Spain didn´t expected it. That invasion made much easier to many colonies, like my country, to gain their independence.

  • This cracks me up. French invasion of Spain is an act of treason? How does one commit treason against a nation you are not part of? It really makes no difference. Spain was conquered by France. Rather effortlessly. Spains subjugation by the Romans is an entertaining history as well.

  • Yes, an act of treason, because Spain and France were allies, they had a treaty, and the Spaniards trusted Napoleon so they weren't expecting such betrayal. Why was the conquest of Spain, by Napoleon, so easy? Because french troops were inside Spain, they were supossedly going to help the spanish army in an invasion of Portugal.

  • However the french were defeated in Spain , and Napoleon later considered the invasion of Spain as one of his biggest mistakes.

  • LOL it's the invasion of Russia which is obviously Napoleon's mistake not in Spain.

  • In fact, but spanish people killed sooooo many more french soldiers than russians. It was the people who fought Napoleon in Spain, but it was the winter who make him flee of russia

  • Yes it was a factor but I have to remind you Russians employed scorching -earth,hit and run and ambush tactics to reduce Napoleon's Grand Army strength to 90%.The Russians were credited for saving Europe(just look in wikipedia).

  • In words of Napoleon himself, the war in Spain was his biggest mistake.

  • That moment:)))

  • @sciprio That's why he called it his Spanish, and not Russian, ulcer.

  • @sciprio Napoleon's mistake was to start the campaing of Russia. He thought the russian would react just like any other european nation:fight , lose and give up. They fought lost and ran away to fight again, that was against every rules of war at the time. Who care about Napoleon's words? Do you also believe he wanted a peaceful and united Europe? Napoleon was a tyrant nothing else , a military genius on the battle field but outside of it he was nothing more than a tyrant without education.

  • @royalplaylist102 no no no his biggest mistake was to invade Spain LOL...and he got beat up!...VIVA ESPANA!>..

  • @El7IncA In fact Spain was the real loser in this war , it never recovered it's super nation statue , lost it's colonies a short time after and eventually became what it is today:a club med country.

  • @sciprio: What about his invasion of Russia, then?

  • @sciprio Not Russia?

  • @sciprio After Russia

  • It's also the people who fought Napoleon in Russia plus the winter.Yeah maybe the Spanish killed more French but I have to remind you Russians killed French,Spanish,Dutch,Walloon,German etc..so Russians beat an International army.

  • in fact Winter beat an international army russia just took the prestige

  • Arguing with you is useless I've already mentioned that winter was JUST one of the factors and not totally the cause of Napoleon's defeat.

  • true, the winter couldn't have done it itself so yes, saying winter destroyed napoleon's army isn't true but saying russia beat napoleon is a false statement to

  • But Russians lost battles also...

  • @ZviagintsevKrasenkov

    russia had the weather

    we had the balls

  • That's true. It was a mistake and a distraction for Napoleon invading Spain. And again I say spanish people never were subjugated.

  • You would still be wrong. If subjugation was not accomplished than a Bonaparte would not have sat upon the throne for ANY amount of time.

  • Now I have a question to you ¿what battle took place in 1741, where 3000 spaniards (most of them native allies) clearly defeated a british fleet composed of 186 ships and 30,000 men (an invincible one)?

  • The Battle of Cartagena, Alex. I will take "Historical evidence" for 500$ please.

  • Wow. Well first off you rude little racist learn how to spell. Secondly Italy did exist. It simply was not a unified nation. Muslin is a type of cotton fabric. The Muslims have never "taken over Europe"

You got a lot to learn little man.

  • Can you learn how to spell or talk with out cussing or insulting? Probably not ignorant foul little peasants like you live to make yourselves a pain. You are making yourself a complete ass.

Now again fool, MUSLIM not MUSLIN one is a people the other a fabric. Learn the difference little child. Secondly Muslims never took over Europe. They did invade. I never said they didnt invade. Learn to read, type and talk.

  • Well thats good news. Perhaps the headache will enlighten you to your idiocy and rudeness and teach you how to spell as well as have a reasonable argument or discussion. Not to mention your weak grasp of history needs improvement.

  • First, I love Scotland and Britain. Rule britannia!

Buuut... Muslims, and particulary Suleiman, invaded Eastern Europe, they reached Prague and put the occidental european nations in some nasty situation.

  • Sorry, that was a response to scottishconfederation. Now it goes my response to sciprio.

Now you put this on the google translator if you care about it, scotty.

  • I am particularly aware of Muslim invasion of Europe. I never once said they did not invade. I said they never conquered Europe.

  • Magnifico!

  • alatriste ;-)

  • some scenes are from Ermanno Olmi's "il mestiere delle armi" (The Profession of Arms)

  • what is "name" thys film?

  • Nice Vid, but in my opinion the backgroundmusic doesn't fit in that context.

  • Un video spettacolare, due secoli di arte della guerra ben sintetizzati!

  • increible!!!!!!!!!

  • Excellent video. Fitting tune, too. Who's the composer?

  • Vivaldi. Summer: Presto.

  • A lot of the cav and landsknecht scened are from "The Medici Prince" which has no English subtitles

  • it's not that its name, it's an italian moovie and it's called "il mestiere delle armi", which means more or less "the job of arms"

  • It IS the name.

The version I have has an English title of the Medici Prince which is a vague translation of the films German title(it has MANY names!) De Medici Krieger.

Although someone has done an English cover for it, the DVD has no English subtitles or dubbing.

  • the music is Vivaldi???

  • Right! From the 4 season, this is take from the summer...the" temporale" ( storm )

  • What orchestra/album is this from? It's the best rendition of Summer Presto I've heard.

  • @toulon33480399

better than overplaying the lord of the rings & pirates of the caribbean soundtracks and Scotland the Brave being butchered on load pipes for the 45th time in a row at a renfaire.

  • At 1:45 is the battle of Lützen and this was in the baroque not renaissance also the battle of Rocroi.

  • If you play Mount and Blade(seem you made a video of it) you should check out the "Death of the Renaissance" mod I'm making

  • awesome, this a good preview of warfare in the renaiccance!

  • Amazing...

  • Very, but really very nice! Nice gravure at 1.30. And very smart strategy in the end, with the ruined wall and serpentine. :)

  • Wow,interesting !

  • thanks!

the first video is from "il mestiere delle armi"by italian director Ermanno Olmi...beautiful film but few battle scene!

Other films about renaissance you can see: with the fire and with the sword;and 1612(russian- polish wars)do you know more films storically "acceptable"?I'm looking for too..(forgive my english)

  • Many parts were from "el capitán alatriste" or captain alatriste, spanish film

  • lol i meant that you missed saying that XD

  • theathesthand said"which movies did you use to make the video? I know one of them is alatriste, but what is the name of the other one?"

the other one is "il mestiere delle armi"by Ermanno Olmi...what is missed,Assy89?

  • Terrific video!

which movies did you use to make the video? I know one of them is alatriste, but what is the name of the other one?

I'm trying really hard to find non fantasy renaissance films but couldn't find many

  • the scenes of another film are of Captain Alatriste, and is the battle of Rocroi, in the golden age of Spanish rule
