Yeah, it's a tough one for the old right index finger (and thumb when the cellos are strumming those chords)... especially playing it in a far too oversized concert hall - this movement basically requires a small space in order to be heard. Despite being "painful", the pizzicatto ends up playful in the end.
my orchestra is playing this piece this year and we found it much easier to maintain the tempo as well as stay together if the chin instruments played guitar style, so we pizz with our thumbs instead of pointer fingers. it gives us a lot more control and we don't have to work so hard to get from string to string. But you guys did an awesome job! great work! =]
I think it should be faster, but I can't tell if you are doing this, but it's easier to pizz if you put your right thumb on the corner of the fingerboard, you know, the end of it, and then it's easier to pizz that way and faster too.
we're playing this symphony in our orchestra and it's kinda difficult to get used to pizz.-ing with two fingers(i can't really tell if that's what you guys are doing or not) but this sounded AMAZING=)) good job!
actually, the best thing to ensure that this piece is played well is to make sure that every person keeps the beat and that moving is always essential to playing together and on time, without the need to rush. :)
as a violinist and a student in the royal welsh college i have to say that pizzicato is probably the easiest thing to rush! a helpful thing might have been to try and fir words to the rhythm! eg. "i think this is beef in my bread" it's what i used to do when i played this!
how did you get this played, in total there are so many pages, when we play the third part we continue stop playing during the rehearsel to switch the pages :S
mauvaise interpretation ...

We played the first two pieces for our christmas concert. We're playing the last two for spring. I hate the 3rd the most. too slow...

LOL@ Pizzacato. It's pizzicato, and has nothing to do with pizza :-)

crazymaniac100 3 years ago 4
On the score, the tempo is set to as fast as possible, so there is really no set tempo

@crazymaniac100 "Presto possibile." XD

for sure lol
this guy doesn't conduct orchestras though. It was a last minute job for him. But considering the facts, I think we did fairly well =P

do not rush!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Ulbers5 4 years ago
I know! Ugh! lol
I admit I rushed a little on a set of triplets. =P
It was hard to stay together sometimes. The ages of the players ranged from being in middle school to WAY beyond college graduate.

the pizzacato really hurts xD
fini52 4 years ago
this playful pizzcato is really hard. It starts to be tiresome, it's true!

yea I had to use that particular technique for this song. Thankfully there was no bow usage in this song haha

Awo022 4 years ago
We had at least two people to every stand, that way someone could turn the pages while the other plays a few measures from memory.

we called this one the hamburger peice because your fingers felt like raw hamburger at the end.
aliciapalmer91 4 years ago
haha very true. my fingers were more stiff, than raw though. But you are correct when you mean that it's bad for your fingers =S haha
