  • i will not forgive sega for not bringing this to america

  • This is a Japanese-only release, right? Why does it look like the only language here is English? Is the language in this game just English?

  • Is possible to play this game in PCSX2 Emulator ?

  • Hmm, i don't know why i can play this game in USA PS2 Console ?

  • How do I find out if my PS2 is region locked? If i can't get it not region locked i can just use swap magic right?

  • @officiallipsey

Every PS2 is regionlocked you need swap magic and a means to trick your PS2 into thinking the door is always closed

  • Just got this for the PS2 today. LOVE IT :D

  • SEGA Y U NO GIVE THIS TO AMERICA?!?!

  • @alexfart67

    cause their gay now

  • @NIGELP520 naah they were from 2002 to 2008

  • Oh man... you're REALLY good at this! I mean, wow! This is some of the best gameplay I've seen since... ever! You, good sir, and fantastic at this game! Thumbs up!

  • @skyrunner14 Thanks!! =D I prefer playing NiGHTS on the Sega Saturn when I go for high scores. Maybe I should play the PS2 version a little more and see how high I can get! :)

  • do you have to have a Japanese ps2 to play this game?

  • @SuperActionTeam1 The PS2 isn't region-locked so no, you don't.

  • @Cesariono The PS2 is region locked so you can't play Japanese games on a North American console unless you have it modded or use swapmagic or something similar

  • @NiGHTScharlie Ahh, yes, my PS2 is modded and I have played American games on my European PS2. I didn't know an American game would not work without the mod though. I assumed it was region-free like the PS3.

  • @Cesariono The ps2 from fat to slim models are all region-locked you would have to mod it, in order to play any imports.

  • i dont know why they have NiGHTS as one of the most under-rated for SEGA....even on his 15th birthday...he got nothing special....but a re-release of the original NiGHTS on a different console....lemme say all sonic does is run around random stages and the bosses arent too entertaining...AND THEY SPAM S.S in every SINGLE GODDAMN GAME!! NiGHTS goes on breathtaking journeys...defeats DANGEROUS BOSSES THAT SONIC COULD NEVER DO!! and he can do AWESOME transformations..i say nights beats sonic!

  • this game was never released in america? i SWEAR i played this game when i was little. and it was weird as hell to me, i had no clue what to do. all i remember is running around endlessly while collecting blue orbs and running from floating blue saucers.

  • @ColdAdapt Nights for Sega Saturn was released in the US, but the PS2 rerelease was Japan only.

  • Why didn't they translate this to a US version??????? Amazing!

  • For whatever reason I've always found this to actually look worse than the Saturn version, not from a technical standpoint, but, there's just something about the original that's different.

  • such a shame this was never released in america or europe =[

  • I use a flip lid that's modified within the original PS2 slim's lid and a set of swap magic disk to play this game. :3

I would love to try it using HDMI cables running on a backwards compatible Japanese PS3 one of these days... If I can ever find a jap system that's still backwards compatible. =\

  • @BouncekDeLemos That would be cool to have a Japanese PS3 with backwards compatibility. I have a US PS3 with backwards compatibility and was able to get NiGHTS to work using swap magic and an external hard drive. Looks pretty good. Although I can't seem to get it to work anymore. It's a bit finicky.

  • @NiGHTScharlie Awesome, I wonder how you do that? (Unless you mean you have a HDD ISO loader) I would love to use something like that on a PS3, I think most Dual-layer disks are finkicky using those (God of War is one of them)

I've tryied using component cables on my PS2 to get a better picture but with no luck, the PS2's video hardware is limited, so the picture loses signal and remains black. D: PS3 would probably be the best choice. :3

  • @BouncekDeLemos The way I did it on the PS3 was to use Swap Magic Coder, which lets you run software on a usb stick, which lets you run a region free ISO loader off an external hard drive or usb stick. The only issue I ran into was the FMV's were really slow and choppy, but the gameplay was solid.

  • @NiGHTScharlie I play this in the PS2 emulator for PC, you can run it in HD and no need to worry about region stuff. I run it full speed (most of the time at 1280x800 with speed hacks on) on my laptop, Core 2 Duo 2ghz, GeForce 9600m GT, so not a beast of a system by any means. Other games don't run full speed but I am lucky NiGHTS does!

  • awesome gameplay. congrats.

and boy, that takes me back...

  • i just cant watch the end of this, i'm in japan now and saw this in the shop and thought, my god im pickin this up when im about to leave, coz i left my ps2 back home (-_-)

  • O cara acertou tudo!! Jogador viciado tá aí.

  • I never knew this came out for PS2, very cool

  • Sony should make this game a playstation store download!

  • Wow, thank you so much for this. I remember seeing this game so many times as a kid. I was too young to remember anything but the main character, Nights. This was really nostalgic to watch. Thanks again!

And damn, this game looks hard now hahaha.

  • is this game worth picking up?

  • @theawsomestdude yeah it's definitely worth it if you can play ps2 imports

  • Just got this a few days ago, a very amazing port, does the Saturn version justice. I also beat it today... my favorite PS2 game... and it's a port... lawl.

  • An incredible port, I just beat it :D

    Does the Saturn version justice.

Unlike the shitty new Wii games lawl.

  • @NiGHTScharlie

Can it be played with PS2 in North America?

  • @Lovegamebaby2000 Only if you have a way to play imported games from Japan, like using swap magic.

  • @NiGHTScharlie Whats swap magic?I really want this game

  • @Realathenightmaren2 swap magic tricks your american ps2 into playing japanese games, basically by putting in an american game first and swapping it out with a japanese game without pressing the eject button

  • @NiGHTScharlie Will it work for European ps2 games?

  • @YouAllSuck5000 You will need a system that is capable of playing Japanese games, so you'd probably need a modded PS2 to play it on a PAL system.

  • was this for N64 to

  • @killincat47 nope, just the sega saturn back in the day

  • @killincat47 It's not because It's by Sega & Sonic Team only on Sega Saturn then PS2.

  • @Chris10239 Yep, everything in the game is in English, except for the ps2 save screens. It also includes Christmas NiGHTS, however they did not include the Sonic mode =(

  • @Chris10239 Nice! The way I do it is a bit weird. Most people use swap magic to swap the discs, but I use swap magic coder to run a program off a usb stick. The program then runs the game off of a ps2 hard drive. That way I don't have to worry about swapping discs.

  • Wait, what happened with Gillwing right there? It happened so fast I has no idea what happened.

  • Hey Charlie, this is probably a dumb question but would you mind doing a video of the Saturn mode in this? I'd like to see it...

  • @JesusSavedMe2008 It looks like the Saturn :P But yeah I could do one sometime. I'd actually like to redo all of these videos in higher quality at some point.

  • @NiGHTScharlie I guess it's just the geek in me wants to see it, lol. Does it have better draw distance?

  • wow you played this game alot

  • this game looks fun as shit.

  • This is PS2? Looks like PS1!

  • @Zawicki1 It wasnt meant to redo the textures and graphics engine. Just revamp it to smooth the polygons and fix the numerous pop-up and draw distance issues. The game was a masterpiece of the 32-bit era. It didn't need remade. Just polished.

  • @Zawicki1 Cause it's a remake of the Sega Saturn game, you blockhead!

  • @GonoManiax Derr but I'm saying it looks horrible, graphicswise. I know that graphics doesn't mean the game isn't fun, but they could have atleast made slightly better textures and smoothed the polygons.

  • @Zawicki1 the "Sega Saturn dream" version on this ps2 remake has some antialiasing, and a better polygonal enviroment. But it's almost the Sega Saturn game, technically speaking.

But the "New Dream version" has way better graphics, the resolution is higher and everything looks smoother, anyways, it could've been better, sure...

You should check out the game itself and don't judge it by watching this super low resolution vid, though. It looks prettier on the ps2.

    The gameplay is amazing. 10/10

  • What are all The Nightmaren's You Can Play?

  • @DaftPunkChristain The main bosses are Gillwing, Puffy, Jackle, Clawz, Gulpo, Reala, and Wizeman.

  • @NiGHTScharlie I Meant Like The Certain Nights People You Could Play Like:

    Reala

    Nights

    Christmas Nights

    Halloween Nights.

    Are Those All Of them?

  • @DaftPunkChristain Ahh, yes the ones you listed would be all of them.

  • does this game work on a north american system?

  • @sayastra nevermind, i looked it up (you need a freeloader)

  • Much love for NiGHTS -- one of the handful of videogames in existence that I consider "perfect.." I recently purchased a new/sealed Nightopia Dreampack, but I can't play it (or any other game) until I finish the novel I'm writing. I keep the sealed game box on my desk as a motivator.

  • @daimonhoshi Good luck with your novel! The faster you finish the sooner you get to play NiGHTS!! =D

  • What is the Nightmaren Option? What does it do?

  • @SegaNintendoGamer Ah the Nightmaren option allows you to select which boss you want to go up against at the end of each level. Once you beat the game it will give you the option of choosing a boss or setting it to random. I always like choosing Gillwing because he's the easiest one for me :)

  • I love how it counts for you so I can just keep going deeper and deeper forever..

  • I played this level like 20 thousand times before.. felt great..

  • I got Nights journey of dreams for the wii. But I think it's very hard. Is this one easier? Oh,and some people on the internet said this might come for the virtual console .

  • Is this really for PS2 now?! I'm totally a PS2 devotee, and I frickin' LOVED this game on Saturn. I'd play the hell out of this for years if I had on an easier system to own! And speaking of OWNING!! What great playing!! Racking up score, and making that level your bitch! Super awesome! I miss it so....please let me know if it is indeed available for PS2! Keep owning! :)

  • I wish I had this game.

  • wait a minute how did you beat the boss?

  • @ninjaheart100 there's a trick with Gillwing :)

If you paraloopo the end of his tail you can beat him in one hit, but it can be tricky to get him in the right spot, especially in the ps2 version.

  • @NiGHTScharlie well that was one quick battle that i have to rewind this vid a few times to see what happene, thank you ^^

  • Damn, I always had that childhood memory of that chick saying "Sonic Team" in the back of my head and I always thought it was off a bit. It seems like she's saying "Sonikku Chiimu" and having just recently learning the connection between 'Chi' and 'Tee' I think I understand what the hell's going on. So, yeah, she's Japanese and I'm a subconsciously xenophobic American ponce. XD

  • ive never been so confused

  • @RATHORAGE

Ditto. Can someone please unconfuse us on the vid, please?

  • @R0ckG1r7 Basically you are a kid and when you enter the dream world you lose 4 of your ideya (orbs that glow white, blue, green, yellow). The goal is to recover the 4 ideya within the 4 different "Mares" (different laps) by collecting 20 blue Chips and taking them to the Ideya Capture. Once you have the first ideya you can go after the second one. At the end of 4 you get to fight a boss. All the other stuff, like flying through rings and doing acrobatics, is just for fun and for points. Help?

  • @NiGHTScharlie ok ty

  • @NiGHTScharlie

    Um.....^_^;

    It's a little harder with no dialogue in the story's all....^_^;;;

  • @R0ckG1r7 True :) If I were to show you the cutscenes it might help a little, but you're right, a lot of it you have to figure out on your own. The very first time I played this game on the Sega Saturn I had no idea what was going on! It took me a while :)

  • @NiGHTScharlie

*giggles* Well, I would like to see the cutscenes, anyway! <3

I like how you play, though! <3

  • I wish that someone put this game on ebay for 1 pound

  • So, im gonna go to ebay, look for this version of the game, and boot disk.

  • shame that i only got the japanese version of it on saturn. and now i don't even know what to do with it.

  • Pretty sure you can use an Action Replay cartridge.

Seriously wtf? The PS2 version is more or less full English and yet Sega haven't released in the west. With the disastrous management of the Yakuza series' localization and being seemingly useless with PS3 versions of multiplats, Sega need to fix up in the Software department before they think about getting back into the Hardware race.

Don't get me wrong though, I've loved Sega longer than any of the guys that'll thumb me down ever will.

  • I wonder why they never released this port in the US? Maybe they'll release it here on the Wii someday.. Or Xbox live... or PSN. I'll never get to play it on account of I don't have a Sega Saturn.

  • @TCgamerboy2002

They [Sonic Team] only intended to release it on Japan because, according to them, there was huge demand for it there. No chance of this coming to America any time soon. They weren't too happy with some of their recent Sonic releases, but NiGHTS is something Sonic Team are really proud of . If you want to play it, buy Swap Magic 3, cover your [slim] PS2 sensors and buy the game itself.

  • im guessing this game is in english?

  • yep, everything except the save screens, so it doesn't make much sense that it was only released in japan

  • Man, I wish they'd make this downloadable on PSN.

  • damn it i wish they would release it in the US

  • I love the voice that says sonic team at

20:00, reminds me of the playstation commericals where the japanese voice says playstation.

  • oh,multi Acrobatic Ring :D

  • I LOVED this game when i was younger

  • IS ANYBODY THINKING OUTSIDE OF THE BOX?????? Why is it that nobody is asking, if this game can be played on

PS3 60gig or 20 gig (usa version) - NOT ON NSTC mode, But if this (Nights Jap. ver PS2 game) can be played on the HD mode 1080i or 1080 p & etc?? My USA PS3 60gig can play PS2 games on a high resoultion HD mode instead on NTSC! If I had a copy of the game, I would try to see if it works! Once again, Has anybody tried to play this game on a USA PS3 20 or 60gig in HD mode?

  • I have a backwards compatible 60gig and it doesn't work. It still has region protection, the same reason it can't be played on a ps2.

  • So you tried it on HD mode?... HDMI or the 5 color wires?

  • The mode has nothing to do with it actually. It's the fact that the region code is Japanese instead of American.

  • Thanks a million! Now I know what I'm going to do!! I just downloaded the ISO for the game from A Japanese torrent site! Ohh dam I lost the link!! I'm going to convert the game on a USB stick and use it with SwapMagic!!

  • Yep, swapmagic works pretty good

  • which do you think is better nights into dreams or nights journey of dreams

  • I personally have only played Journey of Dreams, but I would so buy this game.

  • @Kendostudio you must. This game is faster, and there isn't any filler missions or boring stuff like in the wii game. 100% arcade fun with a lot of depth in the gameplay. And the music is top-notch.

  • I think both Journey of Dreams and NiGHTS into dreams are great games.

  • So, this version DOES have English options?

  • Oh yeah! It's 99% english. The only japanese text is when it saves so it's a shame it didn't get released outside of japan.

  • But you need a japanese PS2 to play it. God Dammit Sega, I loved the sequel now bring me the prequel.

  • I managed to get this game and the Saturn by Ebay.

I'm now about to play this game, which seemed to have been considered epic on Saturn. Can someone tell me why?

Another thing I wonder: is there a point in controlling the girl and boy at the beginning if you have to control Night to finish each level?

  • For the time the graphics were top notch, the sound and music is still great, the gameplay is highly addictive once you know what to do and realize how much detail there is. As for the kids, it's the idea of having courage and dualizing with NiGHTS in the dreamworld. Also it's fun to explore as the kids because you can reach areas that you can't as NiGHTS and you can collect and interact with different things in the world, like chips and Pians. Have fun! =D

  • Thank you, I guess it was a great game at the time 3D games were developped.

Without offending, I though this game had a special gameplay and set, kinda like Mario Party which had a smart original gameplay. Anyway, I'm treasuring this game with the Saturn.

  • I think the gameplay is pretty unique. I don't know many games that play like it. Some people just love the idea of flying around in the environments. I personally love the arcade aspect of the game and like setting records for high scores.

  • where did you get this game??!!!!!!

  • lol japan!!!! =D

  • dude u r AWSOME!

  • I'm so jealous of you, man. Pity they don't put this on PSN.

  • Haha...true true, but I still prefer the Saturn version so I'll never stop playing the original.

  • I dont understand i have europe ps2 and i can play this game.

  • Really? That's weird because it's a japanese game and would be ntsc, whereas the europe ps2 is pal. Do you have a modded ps2?

  • Yes.

  • Hi did you use an emulator with this or do you have a recorder plugged into your TV? if you are using an emulator what are the specs to play this game?

  • Hi, I'm recording it off my TV. I don't have a PS2 emulator.

  • Kk thanks...i still have this for my Sega Saturn...beautiful game...you are stunning at this game by the way

  • Thanks! I actually prefer the Saturn version. The controls seem a bit better, although the graphics are a nice update on the PS2.

  • I lost my 3D sega saturn pad in a box of shite so i need to dig it out again...i do like the clasic sega saturn version and the PS2 version has beautiful scenery and graphics...something the sega saturn was lacking in its era even though NiGHTS blew me away...love that game

  • This is not much of a problem. As soon as region protection is circumvented, the PS2 will output a signal with PAL encoded colour but NTSC 60Hz timings, something that nearly every PAL TV plays without problems.

  • I really want this to come to Xbox Live Arcade.

  • okay, that's cool thanks. :)

  • Can you get mepian eggs in NiGHTS Journey of Dreams?

  • In JoD you can get mepians, but not mepian eggs, they are just normal pian eggs. In NiD you could get different looking eggs based on the type of mepian.

  • T. Y people

  • Please be in the U.S.

  • The game looks good, it got a remake on the PS2, right?

  • Yes, this video is the PS2 version

  • this is the ps2 version how did you get it outside of japan?

  • I ordered it from Japan :)

  • And it works on your ps2with no problems?

  • Ah...no it doesn't work on a north american ps2, unless you use something like swap magic or another trick to play import games. I run mine off a hard drive I added to the ps2 that has software to bypass the region lock.

  • is that stuff able to be found in any software store or are there speacific places or any way easier?!!!!????!?!?!??!?! >(

  • swap magic is the most common way to play imports and you'll likely have to buy it off the internet as stores won't carry it

  • i am new in night's world and never played it before in saturn coz i havent got a saturn i only have a ps1 back in those 32 bit old days! but after sega made a remake for it for the ps2 i got one after i saw it in a local video games store i played it and complete it but since i am one of those gamer's that don't let a game to be left alone! till completed 100% i have try try and try!! and still never ended it 100% so!!

"what will hapend if you find all those angel look guys or hatch them out"

  • I'm like that, too. What you said about you not playing the game or leaving games alone UNTIL finished.

  • well, welcome to the perfect complete side bro : )

  • The "angel guys" are called nightopians and mepians, and there are hundreds of combinations. Different kinds will breed and create new kinds. They can have different heads, arms, bodies, feet. The hardest one to breed is a Super Pian or King Pian, and he will actually build a tower in your game with the help of the other pians.

  • so it's meen as long as you'er keep tracking the game data file on your ps2 memory card and keep on playing you can breed them and rised them like the chao in sonic adventure and those unhatched egg will hatch after a long playing?

  • You can hatch eggs by walking over them as the kids or flying into them with NiGHTS. To get mepians (a mix between a nightopian and a nightmaren) you have to grab a nightmaren as NiGHTS and throw them into nightopians. When they collide you will get a mepian egg.

  • thanks!! that really help i didn't know about this.

  • how cool this ps2 version looks like!

you can also select the saturn version too!

  • why this game doesn´t come to america yet????

    blind sega of america.....

  • is Christmas NiGHTS on here?

  • yep! i have videos of it too

  • Is NiGHTS girl or guy?

  • Actually, NiGHTS is genderless, even though referred as a male in the in-game dialogue.

  • but if you see nights journey of dreams , nights has got a preferense to be a girl

  • Nights has no sex.

  • As I've responded to the "Nights Journey of Dreams", I will do the same for this lesser of two evils. Pretty much this game has a few interesting tweaks or two, and a VERY minor graphics upgrade. It's like turning a 5 pixel image to 8. Despite the fact that Nights Into Dreams (original) was epic, I had expected MUCH more for a remake. The graphics I thought should have been insanely great and revamped considering the lack of change. It's worth the buy if you never played it though.

  • To sort of edit my previous post, I would also like to mention that the lack of change is a BEAUTIFUL lack of change in comparison to the wii version (which should be burned and never seen again). I continue to wish that some things would have been updated according to technology available today, but as I've mentioned before, it is the lesser of two evils.

  • Charlie, did you edit out the loading times or something? Because my copy/ console definitely doesn't load the menus as fast as this.

    Thanks.

  • I didn't edit this video, but I'm actually running my copy off a hard drive so that's probably why it loads faster.

  • where did you get this game? can i get it for PAL?

  • unfortunately you can only get it from Japan so you'll need a way of playing Japanese PS2 games

  • ah shit i was scared of that lol

  • My fav level was the soft museum one with the mirrors and yellow brick road which morphed belowyou. The garden with the flower clock which correlated with the saturns real time clock was delightful as well. SIGH. - what happened tobeautiful, delightful games instead of racing and FPS? I love GT but I suppose the nearest thing to this MIGHT be LBP.

  • PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE release this on PSN on PS3 sega godamn you an your utterly illogical ways since the departure of the Lovely Dreamcast.

  • what are you really doing in here? it doesn't seem like the mission thing in JoD, are you just collecting idya and figting a boss?

  • Yes, you collect 4 ideya and then you fight the boss for that dream. The different mission types in JoD were a new addition.
