I couldn't do an American accent if my life depended on it,not that that situation is likely to occur.

He really is an great actor, I have noticed in the Mentalist, his lines are really fluid and fit well with his movement in the scene. He has also got the whole sarcasm, cheecky but innocent thing perfect for Patrick Jane,but instead of making the viewers think he is annoying they find him loveable. I really don't know who else could play him!

Kudos to Simon Baker, and the makers of the show.

Btw, I went to high school with him at Ballina High School. He was known as Simon Denny back then. He was the male captain of my sport house (Lang) in year 12. I didn't know him though - we socialised in different circles. He was a cool surfer dude and I was a nerd (still am... :-/).

They edited out what happened straight after he said "fat chance of that, Dave", and the next thing you see is the end of the interview where Simon is ooking rather quiet, leaning away from Letterman and jumping when he offers to shake his hand. Maybe there was a tense moment between them....

The comment was fine and it was in relationship to Letterman's clumsy attempt at interviewing Nicole Kidman.

If you check out Nicole Kidman's interviews with other talk show hosts, you will find out that Letterman was anything but clumsy; especially the one with Jonathan Ross few years back. But yeah, Baker was actually quite cool here like I've mentioned in my previous comment.
