we just played this song arrangement in fine arts festival for band and we had a few fiddles and chellos, it was really fun. Your version is way better though lol, very nice, it has a lot of emotion in it.
The interpretation of Dyens does not have even a speck of stress. Dyens is completely clear in the beat, with no confusion or turbulence in the meiody. Roland Dyens sounds like I imagene a tree hears a subterranean river.
This particular version of "el choclo" is very good for me, with the guitar skills is difficult to surpass the whole orchestra and this man did it well.
I would say his sound is too aggressive most of the time. The tango is not supposed to be a martial march-like type of dance--no matter how much ball-room tango dancers would like it to be. This version evokes the stereotypical image of the woman dressed in Flamenco (not Argentinean) attire clutching a rose between her teeth and looking vampiresquely at her partner. This is a caricature of Argentinean tango.
Tango is aggressive, it has power, and every sensual dance is like that, it has in his history even "la cumparsita" that was born in a military march in Uruguay so it can be martial march-like type of music, the sensibility of the listener makes the dance. Women in tango in it's stereotype form are like woman in flamenco, the difference is that the woman surrenders to the sensual hug and rule of her partner.
this song is sexy......very sexy.

Estoy de acuerdo de que Roland toca quizás mas clara la melodía, pero el feeling de tango lo expresa mejor este maestro.

well, sometime you have to just face the reality that some performers do manage to play better than the composer. keep an open mind ^^

Dyens arranged it for guitar, not composed it, but any rate, this interpretation is far superior. Another amazing Choclo player is Ricardo Cobo
