Andrew Wyeth created images of purity and beauty from a nature that may still be found, but never in the cities, and never along the main roads of life. His beauty seems elusive, however, it only requires that you know where, and how, to look. The fact that I grew up north of Pittsburgh, and I might have driven east for a brief time and possibly met him still wrankles. Without ever wishing to impose, it would have been a joy to have spent some time with him in conversation. To stroll his world
Andrew Wyeth...definitely one my all time favorite artists!! A "local boy" from just over the river in Chadds Ford, PA, 45 minutes away. Some of his art still hangs in the Philadelphia Art Museum, where my family & I love to hang out. I can't believe anyone does not like his art. It's true Americana & amazing!!!
a WONDERFUL man and the greatest American Artist since WWII--the most decorated American Artist--only to have show at Royal Academy in London while living--he is the man--God Speed and thank you so much
The people that where not fans of Andrew Wyeth always accused him of sentimentality, but they were fans of people who whould put a cross in a jar of piss and call it original art.
What is wrong with having a man like Andrew Wyeth represent all that is good about America and its people and represents them as art.
The problem with most art critics is that they want to promote someone whos work represents the exclusivity of the rich, but they hate it when it is embraced by the masses.
as far as I'm concerned, what greater contribution can an artist make than to affect the common people of an entire nation? this guy is timeless, many modern artists exist only because of the time period. had they been born three hundred years ago, they'd have nothing to do with art. wyeth is in the same lineage as rembrandt, da vinci, monet and other greats dedicated to their work. they are the real artists, the ones with talent, making real contributions. i hope one day it changes....

He was an authentic American master who left behind works of an austere and haunting beauty. Goodbye, Andy.
