I have intense pain in my outer(front part of)my left deltoid. The most painful movement is reaching behind my back...there is also some stiffness and pain in my left trapezius...Also shoulder pain when I am sleeping. My workout was pull ups using different hand grips and spacing..now I can't exercise at all because of the pain..and risking further damage..it has been 3 months and is not better..massage hasn't helped so far..any ideas are appreciated.
Hey I have a the same problem, I have a big force loss in my right shoulder. I do weight training. If I want to lift or frontraise sideraise any weight with my right arm I simply cant. Moreover my right shoulder raises weirdly and looks totally asymmetric to the left one. With the left one I have no problems! I have no pain tingling in fingers or any of that. I did have a bit pain in the front part of my shoulder for two days and thought that the shoulder just were sore.
@tieemupgoodandtight1 Hay there great news. I have right shoulder problems - could you let me know what symptoms you had and how long for? Mine has been persistant for over a year. Can't do bench anymore.
So first thing is to straighten the elbow and then bring your arm so its horizontally level with your shoulder (thumb pointing up--towards the ceiling) and then slowly point your thumb towards the floor, then adduct (bring the arm towards the other arm) while keeping it in a horizontal plane. If at 30 degrees of adduction of the shoulder the client experiences pain then it is a positive for supraspinatis tendonitis. after 30 degrees would be a positive for bursitis.
Many therapists say Bursitis can't be massaged directly because of the fluid buildup. Lymphatic drainage is a good approach. This is when the bursae is inflamed (first stage, let's say a few days). But for people who were first diagnosed with bursitis, but have been resting for weeks (lets say 4 weeks). Do they still have bursitis? Can I massage the shoulder directly? If they still have pain, does that mean bursitis is still there? Is there a chronic bursitis?
It could possibly still be bursitis, but only a doctor could diagnose that. Bursitis is sometimes hard to diagnose and even carpal tunnel is sometimes misdiagnosed, because bursitis is so hard to determine.
So, can we still directly massage(let's say effleurage and petrissage) the supraspinatus and subscapularis when bursitis was diagnosed a few weeks ago?

@geodorsey you have to do stretching exercise. Maybe Pilates can help you or some kind of yoga exercise for shoulders..

I would suggest an orthopedic test called the "empty can test"..aka: supraspinatus strength test.

As long as it's not inflamed.
