  • This story has been repeated with the Nimrod MRA4 cancelled then destroyed and cover over by walls from the public. in review to save money by spending £200 million and over to destroy the airframes. in favour of american planes that aren't up to the job what the Nimrod MRA4 could have done a bit like the TSR2 story.

  • Why did they destroy everything?!

And also why the hell did the americans force us to cut the project!

  • @raftsr2 It wasn't the US, it was from withing Your own government. There were aircraft like the Northrop flying wing bomber that got the same treatment,in some ways worse in that the very people who built them were also told to go out into the fields and cut them up.

  • I concur

  • I always thought Roy Jenkins was a twat. Now i have proof.

  • The P1154 was the supersonic version of the Harrier.

  • @mrjkt123 I heard from a little bird that Wilson guessed that MI5 were on to him. He became paranoid about it and scared shitless in case of exposure. It was probably the stress of all this that brought on the Altzheimers he developed that caused him to resign as prime minister and retire so suddenly in 1976.

  • Healey was useless as Defence Minister and Wilson was an arch opportunist. This aircraft should have been allowed to survive; it would have been in a class of its own and the UK aviation industry still be at the cutting edge.

  • Awful to watch this. Looks like a swan and as graceful.

  • How appropriate seeing the ritual burning of this great aircraft...the last rites

    of the British Avaition Industry

  • Labour and the press should be ashamed

  • @RogueBrit Very true indeed.
