I hold the same view that the right to bare arms is fundamental to a free society yet the military and merc forces like Blackwater, their old name, went through La. after Katrina, and did just that, confiscated guns. I did a trigger job though, changed the slide release lever and the spring cups - only original Glock parts were used.

Yes... I just prefer stock Glock or original Glock's parts. Everything else seems to make it less of the pistol it was at the begining.

I got the spring cups where I got everything else - at my Glock dealer. Are you kidding me or are you serious, asking me this? I live 10 km away from Austria so it would be kind of sad if I would have hard time getting this stuff.

That's not a slide release, it's a slide stop. It's designed to hold the slide open. Some people use it as a slide release but as far as tactical shooting goes most instructors will teach you to use the gross motor movement of pulling the slide rearward to bring the weapon into battery. The reason for this is because of the negative impact adrenaline will have on your fine motor skills in a real world shooting situation. Train how you fight, fight how you train.

If you don't use that flimsy powder coated piece how else are they going to get your parts to wear out (other than the barrel)? In the end you can take a half ass shooter w/ a "pimped out" (only the sight mod was useful) man-portable handgun and be have that shooter outshot by a good shot with a POS handgun. Too many details and you lose fact of what you were doing in the first place ... hitting the target.

People are free to modify thier toys til their hearts are content, the more the merrier can be a motto if they so wish. Its that salesman talk of "you need this too" that keeps our defense sector live and vibrant with new technology. I was only sitting in the peanut gallery stating the obvious. Just because someone carries a badge, or rank, does'nt change the fact or give them extra credentials. There are as many good civilian shooters (if not more) out there i.e. CMP competitions.

I saw him shoot it today at a steel target at 200 yards, he hit it once in 6 shots

and the misses were very close

Good question, a lot of people have different opinions about that lever.

I call it a slide lock (not a slide release)

It is there to hold the slide open, many people also use it to drop (release) the slide..

The other group of people go with the idea that fine motor control (using one finger / thumb) are not something that should be relied upon.

Under stress people get tunnel vision and loose fine motor control, thats why I tend to use the 'whole hand' style of closing the slide

yup a slight one.. however this one was modified for a guy with large hands, and the 'beaver tail' was extended to help keep the slide from pinching his hand

This one is highly modified including;

Textured grip (snake pattern),

New paint job,

smoothed trigger guard,

extended magazine release,

extended beaver tail,

scalloped mag well,

new night sights

and some trigger work..

those are some nice modifications but that beaver tail is really unnecessary. the original beaver tail looks sufficient enough to prevent slide biting.
