@theoriginalafroninja No it wasn't. An RB26 got the intake on the other side, mirrored head in other words and the cylinder head cover is clearly a 2JZ
as far as i know twin and bi are the same thing, they both just mean that the car has 2 turbos. the difference is whether its a sequential or parallel set up. the sequentials are with the different sized turbos to try to get rid of some turbo lag
Come to think of it 'Bi' would make more sense of having two different turbos and twin is just two in the same. Just to throw that out. But you're right.
im sure you guys know what your doing but it sounds like those turbo's flow to much for your head, its hard to tell from the video but it sounds like you have on throttle surge?
Bi-turbo is one smaller turbo for lower rpms and one bigger turbo for higher rpms, only the smaller one is spinning at lower rpms, then they switch and the smaller stops and the bigger starts when the rpms build to eliminate turbo lag.
twin turbo is two turbos being the same size. the "double turbo" GnRSlashVR is called bi-turbo over here. a smaller turbo is used to spool a larger turbo to reduce turbo lag.
no one gives a shit about two diff size turbos when making 1000hp. you want the most efficient boost (cooler, denser). so either a single big one whose flow chart matches your operating range and engine VE or twins, smaller but same size. Yeah the twins will spool faster but who cares at such high HP levels? The answer is no one.
so what actually DOES work better? twin turbos of the same size... or a smaller one providing low end boost while the larger one spools for high end? or are there other combinations? what would be the best setup is what im asking.
actually its so one assists with spoolup for the other. twin turbo setups were designed to tackle less lag.. or would you rather spool 2 small turbos or 1 huge turbo? personally i like single setups better, but in return you get lag on spoolup.
@chrisdef15 There are many manufacturers that make cars with two different size turbos. The smaller one works over lower rpms (it revs up quicker) while the bigger one works over mid and high rpms (it gives more torque, but it also revs up slower). With this method there is not turbo lag, since you have more torque at lower engine speeds then you'd have with 1 turbo. So when the bigger turbo kicks in and gives the peak torque, you won't hit your head into the headrest (at least not that hard)
RX7 and Supra both used 2 of the same sized turbo's with valves inbetween them. All exhaust is channelled through one at low rev's then at about 4k a bunch of valves open and let exhaust flow into the 2nd turbo too.
From what i can find out about the 959 im pretty sure it was the same.
Wouldnt surpise me if the bmw you mentioned before was also the same.
@jeffzahnd I thought drag cars focused on top-end power so they usually would have a single monster turbo? Drag cars can build boost before launch... A wide powerband is more essential on the street than on the track
Check again buddy, 3000gt comes with 2 tdo4 turbo's exactly the same size.
Its alot rarer then alot of the tards on here seem to think, and other then one diesel (which as far as i can find actually has 2 the same) no one as thought of a production car with it yet.
@frunkmasterflex my car is "bi-turbo" and both turbos from the factory are the same size. I'm honestly not sure the difference between twin turbo and bi-turbo...or if there is one at all. As far as I know it could just be what the manufacturer decided to call it.
if twin-turbo stands for twins then i think it stands for two turbos with the same size. Biturbo should be a small and a big. But thats only my opinion not sure if its really like this
@chrisdef15 Of course there's another way of getting rid of turbo lag. Using two turbos of the same size that operate simultaneously. For example if you have a S6 engine both of your turbos charge 3-3 cylinders. If you have a V8 you'd have one turbo on the one side (\) the other on the other side (/) of the engine. This way you have two smaller turbos instead of one large. They give you the same power, but their turbines rev up quicker so you have max torque at lower engine speeds.
@chrisdef15 In Europe we call engines with two different size turbos working one after the other "double-turbo engine" and ones with two turbos of the same size (operating simultaneously) "twin-turbo engines")
BMW 335d (diesel engine) is an example to the former one. BMW 335i is and example to the latter one.
Wrongo, a sequencial twin turbo system is actually counter intuitive. The large turbo is first in line and provides the majority of the air volume, while the smaller turbo is second and provides the High RPM operating pressures. Dont believe me? Look it up. but then in a parrallel setup, both would obviously be the same size. From the factory, im pretty sure that the twins were sequetial, but thisn looks parallel to me. The turbos look identical.
im thinkin these other people are noobs. I am not saying that quick spool isnt possible with 2 turbos. I am saying that... having 1 turbo will spool faster than 2 turbos of that same size on the same motor no matter what tuning is done.
and it started with more than 2 turbos are technically possible on nearly any vehicle... bur more turbos *usually* has downfalls...
obviously if its the same turbo.. but you can setup a twin setup to flow more airflow then you can a larger single and get less lag on the twin setup when done properly. with that said single is better tho, who the fuck wants to deal with 2 turbos? maybe if your platforms a v8 on up....
its a straight 6 3litre, its quite a big engine, but someone obv did this the cheapway, instead of upgrading all internals, fule lines, pumps, manifiolds, just stuck two turbos on, well if two turbos only gets you 1000bhp, howcome some cars out there with t88 can get 900 with just a turbo? and there not exactly small turbos on this car
yes obv you will upgrade oil lines. inlets/outlets and a few other things, but its the principal of doing this, id much rather have one turbo and just remap it, can get it to spool faster and produce more power
well thats the other problem, why spend all that money on upgrading to 1000bhp at the flywheel but your only putting down 700bhp on the road? i know it wont be exactly this but 600bhp it optimum for this car as pretty much 87% of that power will be used correctly
yea i guess ur right...lol i think i was a little too high the first time i saw this vid and didnt notice the size of 'em. my apologies! but either way, "all shall cower in the glory of the 2JZ"
What are you saying? The 2JZ-GTE comes from the factory with 320 horsepower on stock twins. And I dont know what you mean by JUST 1000 horsepower, Thats an OBSCENE amount
In the same way a larger engine is more heavy. It doesn't automatically mean a slower car. The benefits of the larger turbos with the correct management and right person behind the wheel out-weigh the risk/downside of turbo-lag.
If you drive a turbo car that has been set up correctly and you get lag, you're not driving it properly.
If the engine isn't large enough to quickly spool a turbo there is no tuning that will allow that. The displacement does not push enough exhaust out to spin such a large turbo. Then if you have 2, that effectively halves the exhausts impact on either.
Other than a huge displacement 8+ cylinder there is no such phenomenon, being 0 lag huge turbo(s).
I think I have said enough to make my point and no further explanation remains. Feel free to respond if you feel the need to I'm done.

u guys are gay...american car sucks...imports are too expensive to invest and u.s. econs are killing us and fuck, u guys still think of racing????? all i got to say is keep that money in your pocket and use it on something other than racing.
Spending money in capitalistic ideas of always having more is exactly what the economy needs, it needs constant spending. How is stimulating the economy gay? I am not going to change my view simply because people got hurt due to bad decisions. If I wanted to tune my car then id pay a professional to do it, and then he'd have his bread and butter. Holding on to money 'under the mattress' is the worst thing you can do, it can lead to inflation if too many people do it,
lol @ the guy talking about the commo... hahahah as if you would bother on a commo.... thats like every other tom dick n harry who runs a datto with SR20det and flys 10's all day long... n for the realist... this supra would own your commo...and then some...so honestly dont talk like u know...
I love my Ford truck, and I always will. But for obvious reasons of performance, affordability, and customizability, I love a Supra more. Almost every Supra video you hear some other car driver saying "Man that fucking thing is fast", haha! Muscle cars, Imports, Euros, cars are all cars, they can be made fast or just to go from point A to point B. But I must say, there really is no car out there quite like the Supra...And the R33 and R34 Skyline. I just hope they bring the Supra back.
creampieisGOOD that's why u always loose to Japanese car's lighter and faster car's rather than rusted or new metal that can't even hold gas for more than a mile and then boo goes your shitti engine yea that's why people should buy American Muscle dumb ass
Listen dumb fuck, the Toyota Supra is a FAR CRY from being a rice burner.A buddy of mine had a '97 Supra that
produced 918 rwhp on boost alone and
it could rape EVERY manner of V8 AND V10 muscle car under the sun and there was even the occassional 'Busa, here and there. "Rice Burner," more like "After
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
dude u bring that out on the track against any chevelle it will rape the fuck outta this car
yea it has 1000 hp but how much of it is actually used to the wheels on the track...i just hope its not manual because i dont know anyone who can shift that fast and win a race...let alone the halfshafts breaking into 2 peices with all that torque off the line...get a car thats worth racing

All modern everyday normal sequential setups are both the same size with valves that basically close off one at low rpms.

But you're correct about the engine no displacing enough I suppose. Does that factor in if the engine is running at a higher compression ratio?
Higher compression from larger turbo's would mean more exhaust, enough to run turbos more efficiently? Not with 0 lag of course though.

u guys are gay...american car sucks...imports are too expensive to invest and u.s. econs are killing us and fuck, u guys still think of racing????? all i got to say is keep that money in your pocket and use it on something other than racing.
unwantedguysss 2 years ago
i love cars and racing but i gotta agree
racer46 2 years ago
Spending money in capitalistic ideas of always having more is exactly what the economy needs, it needs constant spending. How is stimulating the economy gay? I am not going to change my view simply because people got hurt due to bad decisions. If I wanted to tune my car then id pay a professional to do it, and then he'd have his bread and butter. Holding on to money 'under the mattress' is the worst thing you can do, it can lead to inflation if too many people do it,
superbird520 2 years ago 12
Yep, agree.. too much spending and too much saving aint good for the economy...

"Rice Burner," more like "After
Burner!"

dude u bring that out on the track against any chevelle it will rape the fuck outta this car
yea it has 1000 hp but how much of it is actually used to the wheels on the track...i just hope its not manual because i dont know anyone who can shift that fast and win a race...let alone the halfshafts breaking into 2 peices with all that torque off the line...get a car thats worth racing
