  • Gear ratio is way out of wack, huge initial gear, tiny little gear on alternator.. If alternator even work?!

  • Looks cool... needs some work, but I bet you're having fun building it! Can't wait to see it when it's perfected. Keep it up... I like it.

  • @Prancinglion1 Thanks will do. I have some other projects doing right now, mainly farming stuff. Ive got a bio-intensive garden maintaining and bigger mono culture farms...not to menetion work. Appreciate the comments tho

  • There are so many improvements that could be made 2 this turbine, starting again maybe a better option. The disadvantage with vertical axis turbines is that blades must battle against an oncoming wind. Ur design has over emphasised this. Blades should be a slender "D" shape or slightly curved in cross section resulting in a difference in air pressure and movement (think aeroplane wing). They shud also b parallel 2 its opposite.

An alternator would require around 500rpm 2 produce serious current.

  • @Rockinghorseshart appreciate the comments. We would have done curved blades and other more efficient designs, but at the moment we dont have much funding for its requirements such as welding

  • Hi, u could make changes with the materials u already have & without welding.

    1. make an anemometer- /watch?v=SZpXGPMvJNo even one as basic as this will help in determining if the changes u make are worth it. Measure against ur existing design 1st

    2. luks like u've used metal sheet and box section. Create a "D" wing by "sandwiching" the box section (leave the ends protruding) betwwen 2 pcs of sheet.

    3. build either 4 or 6 wings and attach in the same way as b4

    4.ignore -ve comments.

  • @Rockinghorseshart OK THANKS!!! Appreciate the comments

  • that looks like apiece of shit, no offense

  • good try, keep at it, and try lift one day when you get the chance to make some wings

  • Are you living in paradise on the ocean or am I seeing things? :)

  • @KyleCarrington Nah no ocean, thats just how Jamaica is most of the time. I live in the parish of Manchester and its capitol Mandevile. Its actually very high high where I'm at, about 2000 ft above sea level.

  • Your making this very lossy with soo much transmission. ie V belts are about 50% effeciant, and chain transmission, is about 70% effeciant so between the mill & the alternator you've lost 65% & the alternator to electrical conversion is about 50%, so your ending up with appx 17% of original power. If you could get it to just one chain reduction, you'd double the output. The gear wheel would need to be about the size of a bicycle wheel, even if it were nails in a ply disc it would work.

  • @magna59 lol Well its our first try. We will try to make it better, but we are working with limited resources and tools. I appreciate the comments tho

  • The best design for a home wind power station is one which uses an upwards facing funnel that no matter what direction the wind is coming from it gets the generator to go really fast. Look it up on The New Inventors from ABC Australia. It really works great. Much better and safer than an open blade system. Much less likely to fall apart in high wind speeds or injure anyone as it's an enclosed system. 3 vertical fins push air up to the fan from any direction. Check it out.

  • @pathosbedlam Will do, I appreciate the info

  • @pathosbedlam Is it named the implux created by a Indian Man

  • @HotHeadCJ Yep that's the one. You can see from the pictures (On the website, Google Implux) how it works. If your just making your own, it wouldn't be too hard to make something similar. Just don't sell them or it's a patent violation. LOL

  • @pathosbedlam Reversing engineering it wont be easy
