  • rICK ROLLED

    HAHAHAHA

  • ええ声ー♪

  • This was on the first American Astley LP, "Whenever You Need Somebody" and, in the UK, released as a single too. It was doing so monumentally well, that Capitol re-issued the Nat King Cole original version to try to blunt it. I don't know how well that worked, but Astley's version is astonishingly good. Any fool who takes him for just an insubstantial, bubblegum dance record-maker, doesn't know what they're talking about. Liked him 20-plus years ago, and still do.

  • Fantastic. He definitely has the voice for these kinds of songs. Classic songs.

  • Am I the only one that going into this, expected to be rick rolled?

  • I don't understand why at the beginning the announcer said it wasn't a good idea to record this. Rick did an absolutely fabulous job of it! He has the voice of an angel.

  • LINDO!!!

  • ALL RICK ASTLEY'S HATERS SHOULD LISTEN TO THIS.

  • *sigh*... so beautiful...

  • This is a heavenly voice blessed from God, he doesn't have the half of he deserves!

    Selma.

  • Michale Buble can clean his bathroom~!

  • Nat would be proud of this remake!!!!

  • announcer is wrong. Well done, rick!

  • @moun2007....Thanks you so much our Sweet Monique...

This is a Wonderful "Cover" by Rick...Beautiful Voice!!

Wishing you Beautiful Days & Love filled Nights...

Love, Hugs For You & Yours Always

    `Your 4Romantics`

    Bob&Robby~Parker&COLE

  • What the hell is the announcer talking about....Rick Astley does this just as good as Nat King Cole. R.A. has a gifted voice!

  • The Comments are correct. This is a wonderful rendition of the song. Does Nat King Cole Justice. The announcer needs to stuff it.

  • this announcer needs to stfu

    RICK <3

  • Rick does a great job with this classic song.

  • I loved this version. I agree, the announcer apparently has no ear for good music or a wonderful voice....I think he done a great job.

  • It was horrible..like him but this was so out of tune with the spirit of the song

  • Agreed , the anouncer is from some other planet , as an american , I found this to be a more than worthy replacement for the original.

rick is a great artist , the problems came as a result of failure to comprehend the synth bass end on a majority of his hits where that was the foundation.

Rick could even do this all over again with a better bass track and it would look like george michael.

  • frankly I think Nat King Cole would be proud of this one.

  • Amazing voice!

  • This announcer is coming off a crack binge. Rick does a GREAT rendition here.

He must think Rick Roll is funny too.

  • really, the announcer probably cant sing a lick. so shut it announcer. he did a good job of it

  • I cant find the original video for this :(

  • Warm, passionated voice!!! Brings me back to my childhood! :-)

  • Great voice. Whatever happened to this guy?

  • Did he just fucking insult Rick Astley ? If that fucker isn't already dead then he will be.

  • @Doomy23 Yes. Yes, he will.

  • Comment removed

  • The announcer had clearly got Rick Roll'd far too many times.

  • I honestly was expecting to be Rick Rolled.....

  • he is awesome

  • 1 DISLIKE?! I'd rather have 0!!!

  • what a beautiful voice.

HE DID GREAT WITH THIS SONG

  • I like his performance. It is a chaim his carreer was so short.

  • @tavodeamerica He's still around, hon. Still performing in England, and he appeared in the Thanksgiving parade in NYC a few years ago.

  • The odds are astronomical that there are artists that can take iconic classics and make phenomenal renditions. Rick Astley is one with this tune.

  • always love this song....

  • I know that Nat King Cole would have loved Ricks version of his mega hit. What a duet if the two of them could have sung this song together!! Ricks version is FANTASTIC!!

  • this is the new

    RICK ROLLED

  • goos song to listen and watch for today(valentine,s day).

  • he looks uncomfortable. like he doesn't want to be there

  • i like this song better than the original....

  • Okay, not a great song to lip synch to but a perfectly respectable cover nonetheless. Nat King Cole's version was released as a response and also charted respectably

  • great voice this guy

  • @stratotega Better than Nat King Cole. Rick roks!

  • Steve Wright (the announcer) is such a plank. Nothing wrong with this version at all. probably wasnt even Ricks idea to cover this song anyway, remember at the time he was part of the SAW factory.

  • Maravilhoso!!Que saudades!

  • This was our wedding song - and the DJ announced it as , ' and now, the happy couple will dance to a special song, by Rick James ' ... LOL

  • THE VOICE, I BELIEVE, RICK SOUNDS BETTER THAN NAT. DON'TCHA THINK?

  • I love Rick and this version so much

  • I love rick and this version so much

  • DARN! HE IS SO HOT!!!

  • I thought Rick sang it beter than Nat king Cole

  • One of the most under-rated talents of his generation! Shows the "bad taste" of everyone in that era that his career was so stereotyped and forgotten! Rick-roll indeed?? Should have been a legend!!! His voice is as good or better than Harry Connick Jr............love 'em both!

  • it reminds me of my adolescence I loved him!

  • Hey, comentator. Have a warm cup of shut the F... UP. Im a big Nat Cole fan but rick does does it very well.Just a little deeper.

  • @1crankyvet Agreed - I rather like this version

  • es un angel!, lo adoro! Rick eres el mejor!

  • I actually like it :) (didn't expect to)

  • OMG RICK ASTLEY I JUST CAME IN MY PANTS

  • WALLA......<3

  • Kinda hard to believe that he did this song(not really but anyways...) after listening to the Rickroll song.

  • ha proprio una voce d'angelo

  • friggin tosser wright. just sayin what he thinks he should say to be funny not actually listening to the tune and the performance.its ignorant snobbery. im no big fan of rick astley but i love listening to this.

  • I love this song...his voice is like listening to angels from heaven

  • WELL.......HE DID IT.You cannot think away this song fromN/K/Cole?Well if you can.....This is a great version.O.K/Well done Rick!!!

  • Wonderful song,i love!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • he has the voice for this song

  • What's up with that announcer?

Rick did a splendid job on this.

  • It went number 2 on the UK Top40, there must of been a zillion of people who liked back in the 80's...Stupid Announcer!

  • the announcer is a fucking nimrod idiot ! he doesnt have working ears & doesnt know what the hell he's talking about- this is a BEAUTIFUL renditiion of a timeless, romantic classic ballad

  • Think it was a great version well done rick.

  • Lyrics still relative to Today!

    Rick did that Song Beautifully!

I'd Love to hear Gunnar Nelson Sing It!

  • The announcer is out to lunch on this one. It was a good rendition.

  • That was a weird intro. He did an alright job. It's a little different than what he did usually, so I think maybe his fans were taken back a little. He has a very sweet voice. He did a lot better with the disco dance stuff. I love him no matter what he sings.

  • @mindya12 I just find it weird he sang that song on TOTP when this show has mostly kids dancing in the studio.

  • I don't know why... Strange I suppose. I am not familiar with that show.

  • the announcer doesnt know what the fuck he's talking about. now does he...dick head.

I hope beavers ate his family after the show.

  • You made me laugh real hard! I share your hope related to the beavers.....

  • Rick, I love you. Marry me.

  • I love this song and the way he sings it.....

  • wtf is wrong with this song? what are you doin givin him a hard time announcer? He did it justice, he did not mess with Nat's music.

  • a son of frank?

  • hes like frank

  • I love this song!!!

  • He had a great voice. But I say that S.A&W's attitudes or policies, pushed Rick into wanting to move away from the business.

  • Można zakochać się w tym głosie,śmiem twierdzić,że równie piękne jak oryginał.

  • wtf?

  • how he started his carrerr was from makein tea and he was singing in coridoor its true

  • With hes voice .....he can move mountains .....hes voice is incredible .....and sing that song .....damn ....he can pull it all the way to the end ......

  • It IS a good idea to do a cover of a classic ESPECIALLY if you´re Rick Astley

  • dude that dude is bashing him. i think this is an excellent song. One of my favs by Rick

  • Loved the music since I bought his LP in 1989.... here is playbacked.

  • Both singers NKC and RA are effortlessly superb in their own class and time

  • Rick tiene una voz fantástica fabulosa

  • Una voz imprecionante fabulosa sigue adelante Rick .

  • Breathtakingly beautiful. His voice is like warm velvet, and the musical arrangement with the harp- magnificent.

  • Always thought Rick did a lovely version of this old classic. Thanks for putting up this vid. :-)

  • very very good...

  • WHOA! what a rich voice!! nice!

  • He is really better than Nat King Cole i must say very very good

  • yes totally and in fact, it sounds like a recording of a 50s song...my dad wasn't watching this video and when he heard it when we walked by, he was like, "I didn't know you liked listening to 50s songs"

  • Nothing wrong with that...50s songs are some of the best.

  • Ahhhmazing voice.... he delivered this song beautifully. Love Rick so much..!!!

  • p.s. As for Steve Wright - he cant do it! And that comment he made about "had a good voice"!?!? He still has it. Ye what a jerk

  • Man he did an excellent job on this song even if he didnt want to do it; it shows his diversity as an artist PLUS say 30 years later, when he's done doing pop music, he can easily move over to this style if he choose to because he has proven he can do it.

  • Beautiful harp

  • have always loved Rick's version...it displays his strong vocal control and beautiful tone.

  • Steve Wright is jerk. you go, Rick!

    ps who is steve wright?

  • "It's never a good idea to record a Nat King Cole classic," says Steve Wright in the intro.

Well, I remember Rick saying in an interview that he was reluctant to record it and only did so on the assurance that it wouldn't be released as a single - which it then was.

    Record companies, eh?
