Colonic82 is correct on all counts and one might add that Robert Fripp IS King Crimson so he would be a necessary ingredient if one wanted to use the name. Wetton is great (but hardly has Lake's vocal abilty) as is evidenced on Red, but without Bill Bruford much less Fripp...
Anyway Hacket is amazing live and Chester Thompson is pretty damn good but that's Genesis and this isn'treally King Crimson
Wetton does a great job here. I love Greg Lake but I gotta say, I prefer the Lark's Tongue era Crimson to the Schizoid Era. However, Adrian Belew will always be my favorite Crimson front-man, that guy has some serious talent.
Just change the tag, it isn't that hard. If you find out the file has an incorrect designation, clearly the comments are going to be full of people commenting on it. 'Tis human nature.
Steve Hackett - The Tokyo Tapes; Steve Hackett, John Wetton, Chester Thompson, Ian Mc Donald, Julian Colbeck This is the first time I have seen video of it.
I'm not sure about just what this is, its not King Crimson proper but it is a fine rendition of "In The Court of the Crimson King" and it appears to be John Wetton and perhaps Steve Hackett. But it is a fine rendition.
This is not the right words..........If you want to quote poetry fine. But the words start out as "The Wall in which the profet wrote.......gezzzzzzzzz
OK this is NOT king crimson !!! The singer is JOHN WETTON and tha song is called IN THE COURT OF THE CRIMSON KING !!! the guy who upload this has to listen to some king crimson before upload videos on YOUTUBE !!!!
PLEASE. This is NOT King Crimson. Google "Steve Hackett Tokyo Tapes" and see for yourself. It IS a King Crimson song, but this is NOT King Crimson... and it's very good.
Lake or Wetton--either are better than anything else under the name "King Crimson." Even Fripp's guitar contribution appears a replaceable thing, as evinced by this performance. Obviously there's no KC without Fripp, but the original material holds up great here with Hackett standing in for him, while the Crimson incarnations of the last 35 years (i.e., post-strong lead singer/songwriter/frontman) have been, well, less musically important in the way this stuff was/is. Thanks for posting!
@grf0492 I like Wetton's voice more than Adrian's paranoid drawl, and while his bassing might not quite be as technically perfect as Levin's, I love how loud and distorted and... frenetic it was in the mid-70s. Moreso than the slick and technical Levin bassing, which has honestly not really impressed me as much as I think it does other people. Sleepless and Thela Hun Ginjeet (often cited as his best) are not that technically challenging to be honest, just some clever slapping here or there.
What year is this?

Oh and Lake's voice is one of the best in rock, way ahead of Belew's David Byrne impressions...
