What's with the Amtrak train backing into the station?

Forgot to put that in the description. That was the Amtrak we rode in going south and they turned their train on the wye just north of the station. From there, they shoved their train back to the station as you saw in the video.

Why do they shove it into the station?

So they can get it out of the way and have it ready for it's morning run back to Chicago. They can't just leave the train facing the wrong way when it's ready to leave or just on the wye....

For this train yes. They also have the City of New Orleans that runs all the way down the line. This train was the S.B. Illini. The train became Amtrak 391 I believe which should be the N.B. Saluki.

Correction, It was Amtrak 393 Illini (Service from Chicago - Carbondale). It would turn into Amtrak 390 Saluki (Morning N.B. service from Carbondale - Chicago) when it leaves again.

Does IC tune their P5s a little differently than NS? They're the same type of horn, but the IC horns sound a bit "clearer."

I thought so. And I couldn't agree more, I wish NS's P5s sounded this good. Most of them sound good, but not like this one.

Wow, what a BEAUTIFUL P5! That one sounds almost as good as 1034's. I've heard many P5 horns on Norfolk Southern, but NONE of them sound this good! Awesome video!

When you said this was the middle of the night, what time was it when this came by? I'm just curious.

It had a beautiful P5 haha. I took this around 11 PM or so. Amtrak was late arriving due to delays in Homewood and the 60 MPH restriction at all gated crossings.
