I heard a brief interview with Mr. Taylor. He said that he was homesick when he wrote this, though he knew that he really had no home. :( I think that playing the guitar and writing songs might've saved his life to an extent.
Talent on loan from God!!!!! This kind of career will never happen again, the quality and longevity of his music not to mention his impact on an entire generation or two or three.... The King of Singer Song Writers, thank You James, we love you brother!!!
Had the chance to be in the audience that afternoon in the studio. Hearing this song in such intimate setting was amazing. Great memory. Thanks for posting this.
m still learning u tube and its trick if you can help me get my song heard SHES MY BABY and listen to JOHNS OTHERS SONGS which are the best of the best.. ill send you a shining star....
This is pure music. Each note so simple and but very majestic. I really enjoy playing along to this song. You really find yourself getting lost in it. Taylor, Dylan and Young are truly the greatest singer/songwriters of all time.
I heard this back in England when it came out. I loved England but that song gave me a new appreciation for wishing to be back home in Colorado. James Taylor is my favorite story teller.
It's incredible how he wrote his music. That whole period of time in music was awesome. Some of the best music came from those years....it's sure a lot better than the copycat garbage of today.
@digglesMcgee Couldn't agree more. James Taylor is a master for sure. I am attempting to learn this song and the chord changes and picking patterns are just nuts ( to me anyway..just been playing guitar for like a year and a half or so ) J.T. makes it look so smooth and fluid...If I can get it down like a 1/4 of how he plays it,then I think I'll have done a pretty good job..
What an awesome rendition of this song he's played a million times. The little guitar nuances at 2:15, 2:26, 3:13, 3:25, 3:38 and 3:48 this simple arrangement so fresh. Very very cool !!!
Thank you, James,...I can see the sunshine and feel the moonshine.....and I can go back to being young ......But hey! Now is good too...and so it's good to hear that it's not just a young man's song...You sing it for all times, James. Beautiful!!!
i look at a dude like this.... collared shirt under a sweater... and i think man he used to be crazy. he did a shit ton of heroin and other assorted goodies. now he looks like a college professor. and the fact the that he's one of the most prolific songwriters ever... just teachers you the eternal lesson of you cant judge a book by its cover.
It feels like these songwriters in the 60-70s just pumped out these masterpieces! So many great songs come from that era and today were lucky if we get a song like this every ten years.
I really hope Sirius doesn't allow the guy that said "Yaaaaaaayyy..." in any live performances anymore. That's something a father would do at their childs mediocre pre-school play.
I hope Sirius doesn't allow that guy that said "yaaaaaayyy..." in any live performances anymore. Sounds like something a father would do after his 4 year olds mediocre pre-school play.
CHALLENGE. Can anybody else match this singer songwriter Mr. James Taylor . Of course, Mcartney ,Collins, Sting(Sumner), Gabriel, POLLY BROWNE, Justin Heywood and just to name ANOTHER HERO of BRIT music Mr. Jeff Lynne
I prefer to be brainwashed by Charlie Manson music, written by the Def com, Troll, hypocritical army of lies. Sure they can't be around the truth. Wasn't that song called "let the bodies hit the floor". Yea the kind I like. So get your bags packed, your moving in. If you got me Marked for Death, I'll be a Carolina in my mind, K? Call it what you want, it take one to know one.
i've gotta say it believe it or not idc but it happened: when he went to UNC, my Grandfather had to escort him home when he partied too hard one night when my Grandfather was police officer.
Funny how all these artist play on here (sirius)with all there pieces and bands and back up and they still don't hold a candle to James all by himself. Rock awn sweet James!
you can see the emotion in his eyes at 4:20 - 4:27 , but pretty much all the way through , like someone posted , i listen to real heavy stuff , but this song is on eof my fave songs along with alot of 80s pop and country songs , love this guy man
so so beautiful makes my eyeys well up with tears of comfort and an awkward happiness mixed with an undecided sadness but happiness at the same moment. james taylor the man, the legend, never a myth. God bless james taylor.
I see there was some talk about this guitar. I also noticed mention of Justin Hayward. It is indeed an Olson and story has it that Justin really liked the Olson that was in the backroom of an LA music store that was made specifically for Mr. Taylor. Justin liked it so much he asked James if he could purchase it and James politely agreed. You will see it in some of Justin's videos. James just had another one made!
"He's old, songs are old"...gee, such a deep thinker. Anyways, love the Olson. Someday would like to have one. With guys like Taylor, Phil Keaggy, Justin Hayward, and the master, Chet Atkins, as ones who played them (and some still do)...yep, need to get one.
that pretty much shows how well you're informed about this outstanding musician. Go ahead and write a similar 'piece of crap'. And did you btw know the're still playing this Mozart stuff? Bummer.
@2009herbie Of course he's written new stuff--and it's great. But many people like and request the older stuff that they grew up on. It's not his fault. He does what most performers do: gives his audience what they want. I'm sure that he only played this song because it was requested by Sirius. And he didn't choose to post it on YouTube; someone else posted it. Geez, do you even have a brain?
