  • can u help me please

    i have a e92 m3 , when u do launch control , it changes automaticcaly or u se paddle shift s ?

    thanks alot

  • god damn clean ass vid. FAST as shit mines on order 2011 space gray baby 6 weeks!! except manual transmission =)

  • @dirttbiker8 No launch control for you.

  • @skierman64 fuck LC ...cost me 6 thousand dollars on my last m5..!!

  • @Portum5 Too bad, it works perfectly in my M3.

  • @skierman64 for how long:) it worked perfectly on me also:) the frist couple ot times...than you need to replace every shit:) ..everytime you use the LC you fuck the Clutch and other pieces..:) but still..i think i gonna buy me also an m3 DCT whit Gpower kit

  • @skierman64 Can you send me "simple" instructions on how to make the race flag come up? Literally have no idea how to do this, Thanks

  • @promodelred: I rarely downshift manually below third gear, I find it is smoother that way. I didn't make the video to demonstrate the downshift capabilities. I made the video to demo the launch control to a few friends. It was made spur of the moment without much throught about the production, otherwise I would have strapped down the camera and not have it handheld. It is what it is, I didn't expect 70,000 views.

  • damn you and your nice ass car.

  • Sweeeet

  • Amazing sound!

  • @bluerap04 a V8 pushing 8400 rpm is a symphony.

  • @skierman64 how has the 08 m3 been holding up until today? did you sell it yet?

  • She hates it before you start going but starts laughing as soon as you let off the throttle. Ah fast cars....

  • The acceleration of the M3 is brutal!!! Rev's like hell to say its a V8!

  • dont drive fast when your daughter in car.

    lol.

  • @ShuffleBoyz93: That wasn't fast. What is your definition of fast?

  • @skierman64 More than 100 :D

    lol

  • @ShuffleBoyz93, it's not unsafe if done properly with care and caution. I've driven for hours at time at 100mph + with no issues, safely.

  • never trust a woman behind the wheel. she'll start nattering and then crash.

    dont trust women at all

  • @foxhounduk2k8 I dont think the girl was driving. Looks like she was video recording from the backseat while the guy drove. Btw she sounded cute.

  • omg is a women driving a car

awesome i'm scared when my mother is driving

  • NICE!!!

  • LOL, ummm yeah....NO

  • pics of your daughter

  • Thanks for the interest in my daughters health and safety. Where was the danger?

  • Well you were doing 4th gear after you've fully had the entire range of the previous three so your speed was well over the limit but not really that dangerous.

  • Yeah, it was hardly endangering anyone... It's just a nice car having fun on a straight stretch of road in the boonies.

  • @cedhedid Shut up, you endanger yourself by not owning a BMW..

  • Gotta love the sarcastic daughter at the beginning.

While I don't enjoy the DCT, SMG, DSG, TCSST, S-tronic, E-Gear, F1 or the Sportshift they are damn fast. I prefer the Straight-cut, ear piercing, "OH GOD WHICH WAY IS UP" Chaotic whirring of the mechanical Sequential-Manual transmissions found in most race cars. The satisfying metallic thunk as it shifts gears is more than enough reward for having to explain to all of my dates why they have to wear intercom headsets in the car.

  • @MobileReign

SMG, S-tronic and E-gear are sequential manuals. Only with a robotized clutch.

  • @MrBazpoker DSG/S-Tronic and E-Gear are Semi-Automatic Transmissions, with sequential UI's. SMG is a Electrohydraulic Manual with a sequential UI. The dog engagement true sequential only allow you to choose up and down one gear. In order to go from 4th to 2nd gears your MUST hit 3rd gear. Where with the Semi-auto and ElectroHydraulic boxes you can skip 3rd gear.

  • Is your car a BMW? I think all BMWs are that way.

  • it's mostly like that on all import cars. American cars are reverse.

  • All BMWs are like that....

  • It's a manual with a computer controlled clutch

  • dct is still manual right

  • yes but no clutch pedal

  • 0-60 is ridiculous. its funny rwd car with the characteristics of an awd, now thats badass

  • You might see a V1 radar detector, but no radar.

  • do i see a radar?? haha sick

  • sick car

wack tranny, hate automatics, i own one nd i hate it

once u drive a stick shift, automatic cars are just boring nd fake

  • Yeah, 6 speed manual M3 FTW! It launches crazy fast with clutch drop in m dynamic mode like an AWD car.

  • You'd have a tough time beating a DCT car using launch mode on a consistant basis.

  • One of the best cars ever made!!! Coupe, Sedan, or Convertable?

  • I absolutely love mine.

  • Convertable

  • Sweettt mother of god

  • lol

  • nice car man, great choice (dct trasmission)!

  • I love it, now if the winter will go away so I can drive it again.

  • that was 4 seconds to 60 mph :O damn man lol

  • It isn't slow. :)

  • I believe you but how did you get that?

  • just count the video seconds from when the M3 launches until it hits 60 mph :-)

  • thanks again and enjoy it ;)

  • thanks for your replay but did think " dct " changing gear faster than the new porsche transmission " pdk " or not ..?

  • I've never driven the Porsche transmission so I can't say. I can tell you the M3 is faster than any Porsche in the same price range as the M3. Also the DCT gear changes are very very fast.

  • dct and pdk are the same things just different names ;)

  • i think so :)

  • So they were the same transmission built by the same company? Don't think so.

  • anyway its the same technique

  • When using Launch control the transmission has to be in S6, which is the fastest gear change mode.

  • that's really good did u but it in the fastest changing gear mode ..?

  • BMW is kida insane these days HEHE

  • It's hard to argue with a 8400rpm V8

  • hey i know you ;p

  • anybody noticed that it took it 4 seconds to 60 miles/hr? on 29 it launches and on 33 it hit 60! incredible!

  • YUP I DID... its that DCT that helps it launch so quickly...

  • yep imagine the next m3 with a v10 or v12 with over 500 hp

  • i think its gonna still have a v8 but with 500bhp at 8400rpm, 0-100 km/h at 4.5 seconds. thats what i really think it will be like, cuz notice how much they sticked on V6, V8 has potential so they wont take it to V10 otherwise they will have to upgrade the M5/M6 to V12 which isnt gonna happen for many reasons , one of which the fuel consumption

  • yea thats true v12 is too much but it should come out

  • probably if BMW launched a super car which i hope they do very soon! something like a V12 800 bhp at 9400rpm 0-100km/h in under 3 seconds, this would be the ultimate bmw, and ultimate car no ferrari, lambo, or any other exotic car can do anything infront of it

  • fuck yea like the bmw cs concept but it only beats the cls 63 and shit whatch by 2012 v12 four door m3

  • damn thats gonna be brutal man lol

  • Wauw! insane

  • what? VW doesnt make DCT transmission first of all

  • LOL, one really has to love BMW fanboys. My comment was downrated 6 times only because it said something true and negative about BMW and spoiled their complacency

cooleb: VW doesnt make DCT transmission first of all

They were first of all to deploy the DirektSchaltGetriebe, my dear Watson, starting from an Audi TT (S-Tronic) and then in Golfs, Passats and.. cheapass Skodas. These also preceded the almighty M3 DCT

DSG is fun to drive so BMW had no option left, just to COPY the approach

  • so a vw dsg is more fun to drive than a m3 dct, there is a reason why everyone is disagreeing with you. a gearbox dosen't make a car inferior to another, duh.

  • mrpeevy9: so a vw dsg is more fun to drive than a m3 dct

    --

I've never told this. What I've told is that shifts are jerky and that it was VW which was the first to deploy double clutch trannies on a large scale.

If skierman is right and one can select a smooth shift mode so that gear changes can only be recognized by rev change, good for BMW then.

  • true

VW are usually cheapskates, but from time to time they have amazing engineering advances

like the VR6 engine that was the best 6cylinder there was when it was developed and in modified form is still deployed in the new VW like the passat R36

or the DSG which is the first paddle-shift system that actually works. nothing compared to that jerky SMG, not even to what ferrari had at the time. only now everyone (porsche, bmw) is catching up

  • "like the VR6 engine that was the best 6cylinder there was when it was developed"

You call that junk best 6 cylinder engine? :D

  • huge bmw fan myself, but unfortunately I HAVE TO AGREE WITH YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!

everything in your comment is actually true

  • yes they do...they crated it..its called DSG.

  • The BMW DCT has 11 selectable transmission modes, you can make it shift smoothly or fast and hard. However you prefer.

I doubt any VW is going to keep up with an M3 without some serious modifications.

  • Good luck keeping up with a M3 in a Golf. The M3 has 11 driver selectable modes of shifting so you can make it smooth or harsh, however you prefer it.

  • I'd still take the manual... more control, you can choose to make each gear change fast or slow, however you want, with dct every journey has the same gearchange all the way through, you can change the settings whilst approching a corner, and even if it has 7 shift settings or whatever, my left foot and hand have 1000 different speeds at which they can change gear. A clutch is also useful for parking. Drivers drive manuals... end of.

  • i would like to see you shift and drive better / faster with manual shift control, new automatic transmissions are better in every way, such as shift times and fuel usage...

but at the end, shifting in manual is often more fun ;)

  • It's not all about being faster. Sometimes a slow shift is what you want. Also if I'm cruising in 6th, and I quickly put it down into 2nd for a burst of speed, trust me the DCT can't skip that many gears at quick as you! 1 gear skip - yes it's quick, but many gears and you have to paddle it 4 times... so in some situations a manual is quicker!

  • Actually, you're wrong, with DCT you hold the downshift paddle and press the accelerator all the way down and the car will downshift to the lowest gear available for the speed you're going. It skips the other gears and goes direct to the lowest gear.

  • I have a 06 325i and I took it to the dealership to get it detailed and I tried to test drive one of these but all they had were manuals so I talked the guy into letting my testdrive the M5 and he did and I nearly shit my pants the ride was so hair raising. I can't imagine the feel this car will give you.

  • yeah when i went there while i was looking at a 535i, the guy saw me checking out the m6 and asked me if i wanted to test drive it...i was so fuckin pissed because i had somewhere to go so i couldnt stay and test drive it

  • I couldnt believe he let me test drive the M5 when I was looking for a car that was like 40 grand cheaper, lol.

  • Bro, or Mr. whichever you prefer you have an awesome car here. My dad has loved BMW's ever since the 2002 and I've inherited that love and appreciation for em. This video again shows why.

n to your haters, you have a car here that most people will only get to play on Playstation. Pay them no mind.

BTW how much does it cost over the 6MT (don't feel like looking it up at the dealers here.)

  • $2700 for DCT.

  • Try this for Launch Control:

Go to M3post . com thread 153392 post #8. try that checklist.

  • Hi can you drive that like a regular automatic and also can you haul serious ass if need be instantly or do you have to program in a sport setting first?I really want to get a 09 m3 but i live in palm desert California where there is substantial traffic at times and would enjoy a full auto transmission with the option of M speed if noy i guess i will just get the Nissan GTR i allready have a 08 Z06.

  • yea i just realized that u need to get the 1200 mile check list

  • Yes, Launch Control is not available until after 1250 miles.

  • heeey

    skierman..

no clue u had a youtube as well

  • Of course, did you check out all my videos?

  • yea

except i cant get my launch control to work for some reason..i cant get the checkered flag

  • what packages do you have on your car? do you think the premium package is worth sacrificing 2g's

  • does the dual clutch come with an automatic button/mode so you could drive local without having to shift all the time? i believe the smg had one of these modes

  • Yes it has an automatic mode called D mode.

  • Dual Clutch Gearbox!

  • GOD the looked violent, and very easy to do

  • Impressive, inspecting the video frame by frame I get 0-60 in 4.5s and 0-100 in a shade under 10s.

The M6 is faster in a straight line but is not nearly as quick as the M3 around the track.

  • Your numbers are similar to mine. I got 4.5 0-60 and 9.7 0-100 with 2 people in the car. Subtract 110 lbs of the second passenger and those numbers will drop a bit.

  • You're joking right?? Do you think I don't know what transmission is in my own car? Check the facts, SMG is not available in a 2008 M3, it's DCT or 6MT only.

  • skierman64 is correct, the 2008 BMW M3 automatic option uses the DCT. You are thinking of the M5 and M6 that both used the SMG, which is harsher, and not as sharp as the new DCT.

  • damn, that is a great vid. the car sounds so powerful. and of course, using the best rd, valentine v1

  • DSG eat your Heart out

  • Alrighty then.

    *OM NOM NOM*

  • 2/10s is significant in the 4's 0-60. The M6 is just too heavy, I hardly ever go over 100, so there's no advantage to most folks.

It's interesting I've been to a bunch of BMW drivers schools, and never seen an M6 yet. Why, because they're too heavy.

  • No f**cking way!! The improvement is 1/10 or 2/10 at best and nothing more. Don't kid yourself! An M6 will kill the M3 in a straight line whether it is 6MT or DCT especially on the higher speeds over 100 mph. The difference is too great between the cars in a straight line.

  • hahah all these MT drivers r bitchin cuz technology has cars quicker and better than manual now

  • It is the fact that it is B-O-R-I-N-G!!!! Where is the fun in mashing the pedal and holding on the steering around a race track? For 1 or 2 tenths of a second, you give up so much in terms of technique, skills and involvement Like Said before, a computer can make the car run faster around the laps if it could steer itself too since it could keep a better line around a race track, hence faster laps. Fanbois like you would be applauding, "hey it is BORING as f*ck, it runs tad quicker than 6MT"

  • A tad faster? Well I guess that it only brings it up to M6 acceleration times!

  • If you don't like it, don't buy one, luckily BMW provides a choice of transmissions. However you don't need to be critical of those that do like it. In my opinion, there's nothing boring about it. I can't wait to get it on the track.

  • Wow that is alot faster then the 6 speed manual M3

  • It is not a lot faster. Check out some videos of 6 speed manual doing proper launches on youtube and you will see they run pretty close. If anything, it is only 0.2 secs quicker. The only thing is 6MT will run inconsistent numbers, but M-DCT will always run the same, but then again, it is BORING as FCUK!! Hold the steering and mash the paddle. No technique, no skills and no driver involvement. Hell!! let the car drive itself around a race track, it will run faster than human driven everytime!

  • right so you are saying it is not that fast even though it brings it up to m6 acceleration times!

  • Does the new Dct shift better/smoother than Smg3?

    also great vid ;D

  • also i just love how the Engines sound in the M Vehicles

  • It is super smooth, no delay in acceleration while shifting gears, no head bobbing on gear shifts. You really need to experience it to know what I'm saying.

  • Don't get me wrong. I am a huge BMW enthusiast, but I would appreciate a launch control for a 6 speed manual far more than M-DCT. Enthusiast driving is all about driving to the limits and putting the driver's skills, technique and reflexes at good test and not getting the fastest lap times while holding on to the steering and letting the computer do all the work for the driver. Might as well sit back and let the car race around the track itself. That is a huge technological advancement too.

  • Very fast, but boring. Car launches really well, but no skills, no involvement, no technique. Just hold on the steering wheel and let the computer do it's thing. This is not enthusiast driving.

  • Enthusist driving in my opinion involves turning. This is just an acceleration test regardless of the type of transmission.

  • BRUTAAAAL

  • is that your kid in the passenger seat haha?

  • She had it in full automatic mode.

  • technically, no. to activate launch control you must first disengage the traction control, adjust the drive logic to 6 (which is only available in manual mode with the traction control off,) then push the cruise control lever forward. the really operative word in that statement is manual mode. now, without activating launch control, the car will act in manual mode with very hard shifting (the number 6 drivelogic program.)

  • but, with launch control activated, as stated in the manual, it will automatically shift the gears for you at the right point and faster than you could react. its a win, win.

  • You don't push the cruise control forward to activate launch control, you push the gearshift forward. The cruise control lever allows the driver to fine tune the launch rpm plus/minus 500 rpm.

  • do what i said and see if you get the same result. i promise you will.

  • Ok, I tried to enter launch control mode by holding the cruise control forward...no dice. It didn't work. Only the gearshift allows you to enter launch control mode.

  • Thats how it was in my e46, might of changed on the model. but i dont think he was shifting with pedals.

  • I was the driver in the video. In launch control mode the car does all the shifting at redline as long as the accelerator pedal is kept all the way to the floor.

  • how do you clutch dump in a DCT since there is no clutch?

im getting mine in a month, but i never figured out how to do it

  • gear will not engage until you let off the brake. if you want to use launch control, read the manual first.

  • ahh you beat me to it!

  • Good Job Skier!

  • 5500 rpm

  • What did it rev to before it dropped? My e46 only reved to 1800rpm.
