I clicked on this thinking it was the real Spock and Uhura having romance. Then I realized it was the new "star trek" when everyone is emotional and out of control. They're dressed up like Spock and Uhura but it's not them.
In this alternate universe they are. And no, I believe strongly that Roddenberry would have liked this. It was actually in his original plans to have Spock and Uhura be close together but people at the network didn't approve of the idea.
Just seems very reasonable to me that the kind of person who could see and get behind a vulcan's forbidding mask when he was most vulnerable and needy would be a gifted and determined expert in communications with a big heart. (Wasn't Amanda, Spock's mother a lingist too?). One might even say, its quite ... er, whats that word, I forget :D. But it will be intresting to see how it affects any friendship Spock develops with Kirk now that Uhura is also 'relating to his human side'.

AMAZING job on the video!! It was wonderful--my favorite Spock x Uhura video out there. I love how you put the memories in black and white or red at the end...it gave it an emotional air that Zachary was definitely channeling in 09 (and I LOVED it!). I can't say if 09 is the best Trek movie, because I'm biased (ZQ fangirl), and because I haven't finished anything past Star Trek III. xD Keep up the awesome work :D

I've been a Trek fan a long time and was skeptical of the film when I heard of it but loved it once I saw it. I know people who have been lifelong Trekkers who enjoyed it as well.
I know thats not what happened to everyone but thats fine. I didn't like Avatar even though everyone around me did, but at the same time I don't go around whining on Avatar fan videos.

I am also very curious on the psychological aspect, of the majority of people, that went along with the hype associated with it. Reminds me of the story "The Emperor Wears No Clothes" with myself and a handful of others that are the child in the story.

The cloud miners episode would be the closest. BUT Spock never pranced around the ship in his right mind during TOS or the movies showing emotional love for a woman. I think that is what fmscribs is getting at. This nuTrek is using the whole pocket universe thing as an excuse to change everything about the characters.
@fmscribs Over all, I think it was an amazing movie, and I'm curious as to why you see it fit to tear down such a thing simply because you don't like it. The AU they made suggests that during "Pon Far" Uhura and Spock must have been together, also BECAUSE it is an AU they wanted the characters to have slightly different backgrounds and emotions. Also, In the original Spock shows some interest towards nurse chapel.
Yes, nurse Chapel did show interest in Spock. The thing is, the "interest" was never recriprocated.
Similarly, Uhura also showed more than a passign interest. Luckily, our stoic Vulcan manifested his "curiousity" in the way he watched at her (while she was talking to Chek) and by the way he waxed poetry while possessed by an all-seeing/all-powerful alien.
The flirty thing between Uhura and Spock was evident, but the show was filmed in 1960s, and U/S would've been too controversial.

I think the love interest actually intensifies the conflict, because Spock will probably feel that his partner will not accept both of his halves.

@fmscribs I don't think Spock' can now "bang anything" but that he loves Uhura and will continue to be with her. There was plenty of character development from Kirk's and Spock's childhoods onward. I look forward to more in the next movie.

I never alluded to the kiss as a reason. Since you mention it, watch that episode and Uhura's speech to Kirk, later in the episode, that is more telling. Surely you do not deny the romantic undertow between the Kirk and Uhura characters.
Creepy or not Chapel directly stated interest in Spock on more than one occasion.

FM, Sadly you must be right... what they wanted most was the brand name and the fan base. Both of which they could milk for as much profit as possible. As a fan of the original series when it was first broadcast, I and I assume many others, are offended by these distortions of the premise, plot lines and the characters of the series, we have enjoyed since our childhood.

who cast the skinny stick figure as Uhura? I think Alicia Keys should have played Uhura. She could have kept some of Uhura's singing talents. Where do they get the romantic link to Spock? The voluptuos Nichele Nichols always had a taboo (for the 60's) romantic undertow towards Kirk alone. Nurse Chapel had the unrequited romantic interest in Spock. Did these people even ever see the original series?

actually, they shot the scenes in a beer factory (budweiser) so it prob did look like a brewery if you focused on the details.
but the point of a movie like this is not to copy the original, its to honor the tradition, and evolve the characters into the new century

The AU they made suggests that during "Pon Far" Uhura and Spock must have been together, also BECAUSE it is an AU they wanted the characters to have slightly different backgrounds and emotions. Also, In the original Spock shows some interest towards nurse chapel.

Yes, nurse Chapel did show interest in Spock. The thing is, the "interest" was never recriprocated.
Similarly, Uhura also showed more than a passign interest. Luckily, our stoic Vulcan manifested his "curiousity" in the way he watched at her (while she was talking to Chek) and by the way he waxed poetry while possessed by an all-seeing/all-powerful alien.
The flirty thing between Uhura and Spock was evident, but the show was filmed in 1960s, and U/S would've been too controversial.

Nor apparently see "The Man Trap" wherein Uhura flirts & Spock has to adjust his collar. In "Who Mourns for Adonais" Spock tells Uhura he can think of no one better to accomplish a delicate and demanding task than Uhura.
Yr. eyes must've been blazing with fury for most of ST XI b/c Uhura radiantly smiled many times. She's not curvy like NN, but she NOT "ugly."

@trich161 actually he didnt. she liked him but was unrequited. spock liked uhura/leila/zarabeth/a few others & had a certain amount of respect for saavik for helping him out. & then you have some who say he even liked kirk. but he never once went after chapel, par that little kiss which was forced & also switched just so you know. spock was supposed to be with uhura but shatner wanted that glory of kissing the first black woman on tv so nimoy stepped down.

interesting fact..star trek original had the first racial kiss between kirk and uhura..
BUT
it ws supposed to be spock kissing her. But william shatner demanded that if there was to be the first inter-racial kiss he has to do this. cause ive seen a lota interviews with cast and he was just a big show hogger
maybe this is why they added this relationship in this film.

When I first saw the movie, I really wasn't into Spock/Uhura...but now, it kinda grows on me.
I guess K/S was for TOS, so this nu!Trek is S/U?
Wonder if they're going to develop this in the two sequels, or get Kirk and Uhura together. (Before I saw the movie, based on the trailers, I assumed Kirk and Uhura would get together...)
