I love Joseph Smith. People say a lot of bad stuff about him, but a great deal of it is harshly exaggerated in bitterness just to have a go at him. Afterall, I would find it impossible to lie that I saw god for my whole life and never ever deny it, or tell anyone that I was lying!
For being a non-believer, this was an excellent video. Well scripted, and masterfully reenacted. I believe this to be one of the best videos in regard to the LDS church that I've personally watched. For this I have a tremendous respect for the whole entire church, and its teachings. I was once Mormon.
At one point in my life I was a member of the church yes. But for various reasons I'm no longer a member of the church. But I do miss some aspects of the church, but as a whole, I'm much more comfortable and appreciative as to where I currently reside in terms of my personal faith and belief.
In fact I've done much better having left the church. Having been able to build my own personal foundation, and lay my own bricks to my spiritual "belief" has been the greatest experience of my life.
What a great message. I know that the LDS church is true and that Joseph Smith did see God the Father and his son Jesus Christ in a grove of trees by his home in the year 1820.
If someone declared a major prophecy that would effect the Saints at a future date but did not come from Pres. Monson, would the LDS Members believe this prophecy? They certainly would not!
Yet it was Samuel, a Lamanite unknown that prophecied the sign of the birth of the Saviour to the members of the church in Nephi's time! Why didn't God tell Nephi, his authorised prophet, about this major event?
With the LDS church becoming so corrupt, revelations will again come from other sourcesl
Was Nephi corrupt? After the people heard Samuel's words they went to Nephi to be baptized. Nephi and Samuel were not separated and for that matter President Monson does not work alone. There are after all, fifteen ordained apostles, each gives testimonies and compliment each other.
You speak to divide the church and are a false prophet
Interesting conversation here with the Catholic. You are both making good points. I also do not believe scripture points to Peter being the Rock. I think that's plain in scripture. But the Catholic brings up a good point about the role of prophet not really being elevated in scripture in the first century congregation. That's really true! It didn't seem they got direct revelations from God either, meaning hugely life changing things. I believe the Bible is complete, me personally.
I've seen some good studies of the original Greek of the New Testament which show that the only way to interpret Matthew 16 is that Peter is the rock. An example is here: youtubeDOTcom/watch?v=82aFlmdtRLw
The English just doesn't do it justice, and when you're debating semantics, it's important to go back to the original Greek.
And I've also seen good studies of the original Greek that make it clear that's not how it's meant to be interpreted. I also learned Greek while living there for a couple years.
I'll be taking Koine Greek this coming semester; I wonder if you were studying modern or Koine (or another) Greek? My prof led me to believe that modern Greek would basically be useless in the study of the NT or the Classics. Either way, I always love to hear when people learn other languages b/c Americans are SO ignorant in that department. Peace of Christ +
I learned Modern b/c I needed to speak the language of the people.
However, I also studied ancient Greek, which you're right is quite different. I wouldn't say that the transfer of one to another is "basically useless" however.
Members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints are actually one of the most bilingual groups in the United States since so many of us serve two-year missions to other countries or in other languages in the U.S.
oh yeah, I bet you are! That's really cool. Also, I was talking about Koine (specifically NT Greek), not ancient Greek. Of course I haven't taken any Greek yet so there's a good chance I have no idea what I'm talking about; I'm just remembering what the prof said when we decided which form of Greek we were taking. She gave us three options, modern, Koine, or ancient.
The definition of "ancient Greek" varies by who you talk to. Though it changed during that time, many people refer to the whole period from about 800 B.C. to the first few centuries A.D. as "ancient Greek" with "Koine" as a subset.
Some treat Koine as a completely separate group since it was different than the Greek of the early centuries. Certainly, I can see why they would call them separately for classes!
I will add my testimony to this comment section. I have no doubt whatsoever and know as surly as I know that the sun will rise in the morning that Joseph Smith had the first Vision. I know this not of myself but received a divine witness of this fact. I cant tell you what to believe. I can only tell you what I now and how I came to know it. If you ask in faith with real intent you can know for your self that it is true too.
Seems to me that this spoofer called Joseph Smith tried to imitate the life of Muhammad s.a.w.s. Morons are abominations in the eyes of Allah s.w.t. (I deliberately misspelled morons - cause that's what they are)
Peter was the bishop of Rome, Paul of Corinth - the job the apostles took was that of bishop; the job they took was handed down by apostolic succession. the name is irrelevant; Peter ordained Stephen, Ananias ordained Paul, & Paul ordained Timothy. where was the line broken? Peter & Paul were both given authority directly from Christ to ordain, so everyone they ordained had a valid authority to do the same. 2 Tim 2:2 The authority never could have left.
no, I believe they went out and did what he said to do. Apostle simple means "sent out;" it's not a title for an office or role in the church. Bishop however means "overseer." We don't have official roles called "disciples" because it was a word used to denote that they were still learning from Christ, getting ready to be sent out. for the same reason we do not have an office called "apostle" b/c it denotes a status of having had direct contact with Christ, & been sent out by him personally.
yes, they're called bishops. why do you use one passage of scripture to make something so important?
I use Mt 16, all the references to Cephas and the 12, Jn 21 where Jesus tells Peter, and only Peter, to feed and tend his flock, there's a whole volume of pasages to support Peter's primacy as the first Pope, but all I ever hear quoted by mormons is Ephesians 4. got anything else?
I agree that Peter was the senior apostle. However, I don't agree that this made him the "pope" or that the Church was built on him.
You see, you only use Matthew 16 to prove that point. Where are the other scriptures to show that the Church was built on Peter? Not the fact that he was the head apostle, but the fact that the Church was built on him?
I use Mt 16 in support of Peter being the head apostle, as I use all those other passages. The fact that he is the rock is just one facet of the proof that he was the leader of the apostles. He WAS the leader of the apostles. We decided that role would be called Pope. it's not a change. where is your proof that the leader of the church should be "prophet?" it's the same thing, there's no point in arguing it b/c your church does the same thing.
There is no evidence to ever support the idea that a bishop could look over the whole Church. You are right. Only the apostles had such authority. It is only logical.
Eph 2 means the traditions passed on from the OT prophets and the NT apostles; nothing to do with structure
the Catholic Church has those too.
having the same names is different from actually filling the same roles. For instance, you've distorted Eph 4 in making a prophet the supreme leader of your church when it's listed equally among other roles, pastors, apostles, etc. Our bishops, priests, and deacons do the EXACT same job they did in the 1st century.
"He called His disciples to Him; and from them He chose twelve whom He also named apostles" Lk 6:13 It was Christ who gave them the title. Peter was the chief apostle though & was given the "keys of the kingdom." Mt 16:19 LDS & Catholic can agree on the latter. The question is to whom did he pass those keys? LDS teach that it was to Joseph Smith, called to be an apostle & as the chief such, a prophet (as was Peter). I know that this is true but I appreciate the respectful tone of your comments.
But the only support you have that a "prophet" is meant to lead the church is Eph 4:11, which makes no sense whatsoever. The other reason I've heard is the mention of being built on "the apostles and prophets," which is to say scripture, and also implies that the apostles have taken the place of the prophets. There is no evidence that Peter was called anything besides "Bishop of Rome." The LDS argument isn't based in history or the Bible.
The New Test. makes it clear Peter was first among the apostles, and he became the first pope. they are always called "Cephas and the 12," his name always comes first b/c he's the leader. Read Mt 16:13-20 - Jesus says to Simon, "you are Peter (Cephas/rock) and on this rock I will build my church ... I will give you the keys to the kingdom of heaven, whatever you bind on earth ..." etc. The church is built BY Christ ON Peter, the rock. So, Peter was the leader & the rock, which we call pope.
only Mormons make that claim ( 3Ne 11:39, DC 10:69, 17:8, 18:5, 21:6, 33:13, 98:22).
Seriously, Jesus says "you are ROCK, and on this ROCK I will build my church." How can you possibly interpret that any other way?? Peter is the rock. Cephas means rock, Peter means rock. And he was still the leader of the apostles.
The Pope can invoke infallibility, but it's only happened twice in 2000 years. He's just a man, sinful as the rest. John Paul the Great went to confession once a week.
Mormons are not the only one who make that claim. If you do a Google search for something like "Is Peter the rock?" there are numerous other Christian websites that put forth the belief that it is the confession of Peter that Jesus is the Christ that is the "rock".
As you well know, there is major disagreement in Christianity with the papal claim that Catholics use Matthew 16:18 for. Knowing Greek, I agree that the gender issue of the noun (Petros vs. petra) is a significant stumbling block.
sorry, I should have phrased that differently. I meant that the BoM makes that claim, so you are assuming it's truth, while the Gospel itself is clear in calling Peter the rock, and nothing else. The church is built on Peter, BY Christ. The Church IS the body of Christ. The head of that body is Christ, but the Holy Father stands in persona Christi on earth.
thank you - i saw other videos called "why i'm catholic" and was disappointed that they had such a limited number of reasons when there's SO MUCH about Catholicism that makes it worth being a part of.
wow what a wonderful event!! i know Joseph Smith is a prophet of God, I know that the church of Jesus Christ of latter-day saints is a true and living church in our dispensation. I am happy to be a member of this true church.
Beautiful vid. I remember as a 13 or 14 year old girl I had the blessing and opertunity to go on Back East trip. We went to the sacred grove. I was so touched to know that a young man my age had a witness of God. Just watching this has brought all those memories back, it's been almost 14 years ago since I've been there. Thanks for bring back such fond memories.
The BoM is another testament of Jesus Christ. Moroni the angel told Joseph to dig in the hills for gold plates written in "reformed egyptian" to write the BoM. That book was written by Joseph Smith and not by God. It's Joseph's gospel.....another gospel from an angel of light.
But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed. Gal 1:8
I have, and the PoGP, and I'm 1/3 through the D&C. I'm sorry, but I just didn't see the word of God. There are too many errors, too many anachronisms for it to have been translated by the power of God. Have you researched it fully?
If you believe there are errors or anachronisms, I'd be happy to discuss those with you. Feel free to send me a PM.
I have researched it fully. I have also prayed to know from God whether it be true or not. Through the power of the Holy Ghost, which Jesus promised to send us to teach us all things, I can testify that they are true.
the book of mormon goes hand in hand with the bible. it is a companion to it. there are scriptures in the bible that support the book of mormon. but aside from that i know that it is the word of god. i've felt it.
I'm sorry you decided to leave the Church. Everyone is different but I'm surprised at how quickly you decided to leave. Just two weeks ago, you were leaving comments that you had a testimony but were struggling. I read on your profile, "i just can not live up to the standards the church has for young men."
I hope that is not the reason you left. It is only through the grace of Christ that we can be perfected, but the commandments are there to guide us.
lds9999 said "I hope that is not the reason you left. It is only through the grace of Christ that we can be perfected, but the command..."
I will never be perfect my mormon friend. You won't, I won't, only Jesus was perfect, he was without sin and he died for all our sins past present and future.
I now have free gift of eternal life in Christ, without JS or the mormon teachings.
Could someone just give me a quick overview of how Mormonism works. Like how you come to your faith. And how you are supposed to go to Heaven... respond ASAP Please...
I would encourage you to visit mormon*org to learn more. You can also chat with missionaries online there or request to speak to some in person.
The short answer is that we come to our faith through learning, studying and then praying and asking God if it is truth. Just as Jesus said He would (John 14:26), the Spirit can be sent to confirm truth in our hearts that Jesus is our Savior and also about other doctrines.
We come to our faith in the most delightful way. We take some lessons from the Missionaries, we read from the book of Mormon. We gain an understanding of the first vision. And then, fully trusting our Heavenly Father, each and every faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints prays to their Father in Heaven and asks Was Joseph Smith a Prophet of Thine? Is the Book of Mormon True? Each member who has asked has received a testimony that this is indeed the restored gospel.
No, just need one song, but there are lots of renditions!
Just like the first vision. Only one first vision, but slightly different renderings of it as Joseph talked to different people and understandably didn't recite a memorized script!
when he started translating from the book, the first pages were hidden by the sponsor's wife (the guy who was paying for the printing costs) so that if he was truly inspired by GOD he could translate them again, but smart as he was he said that GOD was angry at him and that now GOD told him to translate from a different book. ONLY MORONS BELIEVE IN THIS CRAP.
Wow, that sounds a lot like you got your information from the South Park episode. Reliable.
Even if Joseph had translated it identically the same, the original manuscript could have been altered in an attempt to disprove him as a prophet. This wasn't just some innocent game of "I'm going to hide them to see what he does." But as cunning as men are, God is always smarter. :)
I used to be a Mormon. and honestly what used to bother me the most is that according the Mormon faith you can become equal to GOD this is the biggest nonsense I've heard in my life.
and by the way where the hell is river LAMAN mentioned in the BOOK OF MORMON.
what do you mean is not, i just had a mormon over in my house about 2 years ago telling me the same thing, that we can become equal to GOD, and by the way where the hell is river LAMAN mentioned in the BOOK OF MORMON.
No offense, but 2 years is a long time to remember a statement perfectly. We believe that we can continue to progress and to become more like our Heavenly Father--we do not believe we will ever become equal to God. That's the truth.
Technically the Mormon god has a real big head start on you because he's been advancing for a long time. You'll never catch up with him. The problem is they have many gods and this makes them polytheists. The also have no true concept of grace. Elder Legrand Richard's A MARVELOUS WORK AND A WONDER defines their concept of grace and it boils down to works. God gave us the world to WORK our salvation out on,a body to WORK it out in and the "gospel" to WORK it out by. Where is grace in this scheme?
The concept of "salvation" is a commercially packaged product. They have what you need, and you can only get it from them, but you don't get it in this world.
There isn't one person in this world that knows what happens after death no matter what they claim.
Religion is a scam. People aren't intrinsically good or bad, good or evil. Religion sells fear, and if there is anything intrinsically bad in this world, it is manipulation by fear.
There is no way he's a prophet of God. Every time I pose a question about the religion, nobody can answer it. They just come out with some kind of predetermined speech Mormons are supposed to give people with questions, but have nothing to do with your questions. It shouldn't even be called a church, because you have to pay 10% of your salary to be a member. You can't even watch your child get married in the temple until you pay all back dues! Sounds like a Moose Lodge, not a church.
If joseph smith have seen a vision I think that we should call it a miracle! not more.Christians, we must follow our bible and not amended! As the bible say:" should add anything or take away from anything in the bible"!!!
i have a question for you mormons out there. first im not trying to be rude or anything (honestly) but how can you believe in a guy (joseph smith not jesus)that says to be a prophet? doesnt the bible say in revelation 22:18-19 that you should add anything or take away from anything in the bible? therefore how do you believe in the book of mormon? what's stopping a random guy like jospeh smith to randomly decide to start a religion? how can you be sure that his doctrine is correct?
For starters that's the easiest question in the book and thus it's easily refutable. John referred to his record of the book of Revelation as it should not be added to, incidentally, nor diminished from. The Bible was not placed in its current form until decades later. Thus, if we acknowledge that argument, theoretically you don't believe in Christ, because Revelation was completed BEFORE the Gosples of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John. Just something to think about...
om gonna be honest, i am no perfect christian, and my list of scrpiture runs short without googling anything. im not gonna do that soo i have a few more things to add. ALOT of historical things back up jesus's life (testimonies, records ) etc. There is NO historical background for the mormon religion. everything about the lost tribe of israel coming to N.america doesnt exist. there is no proof. not too mention the gold plates he found.
So what you're saying is that there are "testimonies" and "records" of Jesus' life. That's exactly what the Book of Mormon is--a testimony and a record of the dealings in ancient America.
For example, all Christians accept the Resurrection, even though we do not have any physical evidence of it. It's the defining moment of Christianity. I don't need more evidence than the testimony gained through the Holy Ghost.
no i am saying there is no archaeological evidence that there ever was a israel tribe in N. America. When i said other documents and records i was referring to stuff outside the bible. there is a ton of other historical stuff that supports the bible and none that support the book of mormon.
another note you cant claim that christianity and mormons are parallel. Mormons teach there are many Gods and that man himself can become a god. The Bible teaches there is only ONE true God.
Do you know how much archaeology has been done in Israel compared to Central/South America? It's a staggering difference. I recently heard somebody suggest that only 3% of the sites in Central/South America have been investigated by archaelogists. There's a long way to go before claims are made that there's no evidence.
Mormons as well believe what the Bible teach that there is only one true God. Merry Christmas!
hey i would like to have a more in-depth conversation with you about mormonism vs. christianity. mind if i have an email or aim screen name? face book or something?
I know Joseph Smith to be a prophet of God. We showed many people this video on my mission in San Diego. It deepened their testimony and understanding. Thanks for posting this!
Don't worry about it. Back when I wasn't a Mormon, this video was helpful in helping me decide to join. I was scared to at first, b/c it's so big a change!
Actually, there are nine early accounts of the First Vision that come from Joseph Smith or from others who heard him relate the story. Two well prepared accounts were penned by Joseph Smith, one from 1832 and a later one from 1838, which is the version published by the Church. A letter from Joseph to John Wentworth briefly mentions the First Vision; it was printed and published in 1842. Another reliable account is a document published in 1840 by Orson Pratt, which Joseph apparently endorsed.
Do reliable documents written or approved by Joseph contradict each other? No, but the accounts focus on different aspects of a significant experience. This is not evidence of fraud, any more than Paul's varying accounts of his first vision in the New Testament make Paul a deceiver. Hundreds of details are associated with any major event in one's life, and which ones are included and given focus is a function of the mindset, purposes, and maturity of the writer.
I like your perspective on this, which definitely makes sense. Having record some of the different accounts, there are no contradictions, just bits and pieces of different information!
I love Joseph Smith. People say a lot of bad stuff about him, but a great deal of it is harshly exaggerated in bitterness just to have a go at him. Afterall, I would find it impossible to lie that I saw god for my whole life and never ever deny it, or tell anyone that I was lying!

For New Testament references of the organization of the Church that matches the LDS Church today....
Ephesians 4:11 (as noted)
Ephesians 2:20 -- built on the foundation of apostles and prophets
1 Timothy 3:1 -- bishops
Acts 15:22, 16:4, 20:17 - elders
1 Cor. 12:28 -- teachers
Philip 1:1 - deacons
Luke 10:1 -- Group of seventy
Because we believe in living prophets, continuing revelation provides for continual adaptations of the basic ecclesiastical pattern.

Our bishops, priests, and deacons do the EXACT same job they did in the 1st century.
carlasue88 2 years ago
"He called His disciples to Him; and from them He chose twelve whom He also named apostles" Lk 6:13 It was Christ who gave them the title. Peter was the chief apostle though & was given the "keys of the kingdom." Mt 16:19 LDS & Catholic can agree on the latter. The question is to whom did he pass those keys? LDS teach that it was to Joseph Smith, called to be an apostle & as the chief such, a prophet (as was Peter). I know that this is true but I appreciate the respectful tone of your comments.
archaeologyprof 2 years ago
But the only support you have that a "prophet" is meant to lead the church is Eph 4:11, which makes no sense whatsoever. The other reason I've heard is the mention of being built on "the apostles and prophets," which is to say scripture, and also implies that the apostles have taken the place of the prophets. There is no evidence that Peter was called anything besides "Bishop of Rome." The LDS argument isn't based in history or the Bible.
I try to be respectful, thank you.

So, Peter was the leader & the rock, which we call pope.
carlasue88 2 years ago
The Church is built on Christ, not Peter. The "rock" referred to is the testimony of Jesus that Peter just gave, not Peter himself.
Do you believe that Peter and all popes are infallible?
lds9999 2 years ago
only Mormons make that claim ( 3Ne 11:39, DC 10:69, 17:8, 18:5, 21:6, 33:13, 98:22).
John Paul the Great went to confession once a week.
carlasue88 2 years ago
Mormons are not the only one who make that claim. If you do a Google search for something like "Is Peter the rock?" there are numerous other Christian websites that put forth the belief that it is the confession of Peter that Jesus is the Christ that is the "rock".
As you well know, there is major disagreement in Christianity with the papal claim that Catholics use Matthew 16:18 for. Knowing Greek, I agree that the gender issue of the noun (Petros vs. petra) is a significant stumbling block.
lds9999 2 years ago
sorry, I should have phrased that differently.

It is far too common on Youtube for others to simply troll videos and put down others' religion, rather than talk about their own.

This is clearly a propoganda film. Joseph Smith was a cult leader. Muhammed was a schizophrenic. Religion prays upon the uneducated masses.

Gal 1:8

Have you ever read the Book of Mormon in its entirety?
lds9999 2 years ago
I have, and the PoGP, and I'm 1/3 through the D&C. I'm sorry, but I just didn't see the word of God. There are too many errors, too many anachronisms for it to have been translated by the power of God. Have you researched it fully?
carlasue88 2 years ago
If you believe there are errors or anachronisms, I'd be happy to discuss those with you. Feel free to send me a PM.
I have researched it fully. I have also prayed to know from God whether it be true or not. Through the power of the Holy Ghost, which Jesus promised to send us to teach us all things, I can testify that they are true.
lds9999 2 years ago
the book of mormon goes hand in hand with the bible. it is a companion to it. there are scriptures in the bible that support the book of mormon. but aside from that i know that it is the word of god. i've felt it.

How so? We are prospering well right now. How are we 'cursed'?
darkstarfox007 3 years ago
I wouldn't say your cursed but I left the church when I was almost done with my mission.
I don't believe JS is a true prophet of god. I don't believe JS saw anything in the woods in 1820.
I don't believe there were any gold plates.
I have left the church and found Jesus as my Lord and Savior.
I have a relationship now with God without JS and his teachings.
calivideoguy 2 years ago
I'm sorry you decided to leave the Church. Everyone is different but I'm surprised at how quickly you decided to leave. Just two weeks ago, you were leaving comments that you had a testimony but were struggling. I read on your profile, "i just can not live up to the standards the church has for young men."
I hope that is not the reason you left. It is only through the grace of Christ that we can be perfected, but the commandments are there to guide us.
lds9999 2 years ago
lds9999 said "I hope that is not the reason you left.
I thank you for your kind words!!

Could someone just give me a quick overview of how Mormonism works. Like how you come to your faith. And how you are supposed to go to Heaven... respond ASAP Please...
BrandonmfReno 3 years ago
I would encourage you to visit mormon*org to learn more. You can also chat with missionaries online there or request to speak to some in person.
The short answer is that we come to our faith through learning, studying and then praying and asking God if it is truth. Just as Jesus said He would (John 14:26), the Spirit can be sent to confirm truth in our hearts that Jesus is our Savior and also about other doctrines.
lds9999 3 years ago
We come to our faith in the most delightful way. We take some lessons from the Missionaries, we read from the book of Mormon. We gain an understanding of the first vision. And then, fully trusting our Heavenly Father, each and every faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints prays to their Father in Heaven and asks Was Joseph Smith a Prophet of Thine? Is the Book of Mormon True? Each member who has asked has received a testimony that this is indeed the restored gospel.

Oh, how lovely was the morning!
Radiant beamed the sun above.
Bees were humming, sweet birds singing,
Music ringing thru the grove,
When within the shady woodland
Joseph sought the God of love,
When within the shady woodland
Joseph sought the God of love.

'Twas the boy's first uttered prayer—
When the pow'rs of sin assailing
Filled his soul with deep despair;
But undaunted, still he trusted
In his Heav'nly Father's care;
But undaunted, still he trusted
In his Heav'nly Father's care.

Brighter far than noonday sun,

And he listened to the Lord.

For he saw the living God.

moparmonster1965 3 years ago
No, just need one song, but there are lots of renditions!
Just like the first vision. Only one first vision, but slightly different renderings of it as Joseph talked to different people and understandably didn't recite a memorized script!
lds9999 3 years ago
when he started translating from the book, the first pages were hidden by the sponsor's wife (the guy who was paying for the printing costs) so that if he was truly inspired by GOD he could translate them again, but smart as he was he said that GOD was angry at him and that now GOD told him to translate from a different book. ONLY MORONS BELIEVE IN THIS CRAP.
3x0du5jsant 3 years ago

3x0du5jsant 3 years ago
That is not what's taught in the Mormon faith.
lds9999 3 years ago
what do you mean is not, i just had a mormon over in my house about 2 years ago telling me the same thing, that we can become equal to GOD, and by the way where the hell is river LAMAN mentioned in the BOOK OF MORMON.
3x0du5jsant 3 years ago
No offense, but 2 years is a long time to remember a statement perfectly. We believe that we can continue to progress and to become more like our Heavenly Father--we do not believe we will ever become equal to God. That's the truth.
It's mentioned in 1 Nephi Ch. 16.
lds9999 3 years ago
Technically the Mormon god has a real big head start on you because he's been advancing for a long time. You'll never catch up with him. The problem is they have many gods and this makes them polytheists. The also have no true concept of grace. Elder Legrand Richard's A MARVELOUS WORK AND A WONDER defines their concept of grace and it boils down to works. God gave us the world to WORK our salvation out on,a body to WORK it out in and the "gospel" to WORK it out by. Where is grace in this scheme?

dariussaulenas 3 years ago 2
The concept of "salvation" is a commercially packaged product. They have what you need, and you can only get it from them, but you don't get it in this world.
There isn't one person in this world that knows what happens after death no matter what they claim.
Religion is a scam. People aren't intrinsically good or bad, good or evil. Religion sells fear, and if there is anything intrinsically bad in this world, it is manipulation by fear.
dustmundo 3 years ago
There is no way he's a prophet of God. Every time I pose a question about the religion, nobody can answer it. They just come out with some kind of predetermined speech Mormons are supposed to give people with questions, but have nothing to do with your questions. It shouldn't even be called a church, because you have to pay 10% of your salary to be a member. You can't even watch your child get married in the temple until you pay all back dues! Sounds like a Moose Lodge, not a church.

i have a question for you mormons out there. first im not trying to be rude or anything (honestly) but how can you believe in a guy (joseph smith not jesus)that says to be a prophet? doesnt the bible say in revelation 22:18-19 that you should add anything or take away from anything in the bible? therefore how do you believe in the book of mormon? what's stopping a random guy like jospeh smith to randomly decide to start a religion? how can you be sure that his doctrine is correct?
lnsouciance 4 years ago
the book of mormon is another testament to the bible of our lord jesus crist
PTL80800 3 years ago
we believe in jesus
prncesbunn 3 years ago
For starters that's the easiest question in the book and thus it's easily refutable. John referred to his record of the book of Revelation as it should not be added to, incidentally, nor diminished from. The Bible was not placed in its current form until decades later. Thus, if we acknowledge that argument, theoretically you don't believe in Christ, because Revelation was completed BEFORE the Gosples of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John. Just something to think about...
BradJamesBroncofan 3 years ago
om gonna be honest, i am no perfect christian, and my list of scrpiture runs short without googling anything. im not gonna do that soo i have a few more things to add. ALOT of historical things back up jesus's life (testimonies, records ) etc. There is NO historical background for the mormon religion. everything about the lost tribe of israel coming to N.america doesnt exist. there is no proof. not too mention the gold plates he found.
lnsouciance 3 years ago
So what you're saying is that there are "testimonies" and "records" of Jesus' life. That's exactly what the Book of Mormon is--a testimony and a record of the dealings in ancient America.
For example, all Christians accept the Resurrection, even though we do not have any physical evidence of it. It's the defining moment of Christianity. I don't need more evidence than the testimony gained through the Holy Ghost.
lds9999 3 years ago
no i am saying there is no archaeological evidence that there ever was a israel tribe in N. America. When i said other documents and records i was referring to stuff outside the bible. there is a ton of other historical stuff that supports the bible and none that support the book of mormon.
another note you cant claim that christianity and mormons are parallel. Mormons teach there are many Gods and that man himself can become a god. The Bible teaches there is only ONE true God.
lnsouciance 3 years ago
Do you know how much archaeology has been done in Israel compared to Central/South America? It's a staggering difference. I recently heard somebody suggest that only 3% of the sites in Central/South America have been investigated by archaelogists. There's a long way to go before claims are made that there's no evidence.
Mormons as well believe what the Bible teach that there is only one true God. Merry Christmas!

Did you know that Joseph Smith had seven different verions of the first vision
tinckerbelle 4 years ago
Actually, there are nine early accounts of the First Vision that come from Joseph Smith or from others who heard him relate the story. Two well prepared accounts were penned by Joseph Smith, one from 1832 and a later one from 1838, which is the version published by the Church. A letter from Joseph to John Wentworth briefly mentions the First Vision; it was printed and published in 1842. Another reliable account is a document published in 1840 by Orson Pratt, which Joseph apparently endorsed.
lds9999 4 years ago
Do reliable documents written or approved by Joseph contradict each other? No, but the accounts focus on different aspects of a significant experience. This is not evidence of fraud, any more than Paul's varying accounts of his first vision in the New Testament make Paul a deceiver. Hundreds of details are associated with any major event in one's life, and which ones are included and given focus is a function of the mindset, purposes, and maturity of the writer.
lds9999 4 years ago
I like your perspective on this, which definitely makes sense. Having record some of the different accounts, there are no contradictions, just bits and pieces of different information!
