That screw is not the governor so you have nothing to worry about. The external screw that is unsrewed is just a throttle limit screw and when unsrewed all the way is safe for ther engine. The governor is inside the engine and if you remove that, yes damage can occure. The internal governor limits the engines RPM to protect it.
@paisteboy im new and dont know a lot about engines and am trying to learn but isnt the governor there to stop someone from blowing the engine so if you take it off would it blow the engine just wondering but as soon as i get my bike back im taking the governor off its so much funner.
Yes. The governor is an internal device that limits the RPM's of a small engine. It is designed to protect the engine. I have yet to remove one from my engines. This video is only about adjusting the throttle limiting screw witch is safe for the engine. Thanks for watching.
My issue was the carburator. For some reason the engine isnt getting enough fuel to run properly. Maybe there is a problem with the fuel jet. The bike actually runs better when left on 1/4 choke. Now I have to give my boy a messed up bike for his christmas gift cause there is no way to get another bike in time for christmas.
just bought this bike for my son for christmas, find that it has no power. I have adjusted the governer screw but still find it is very sluggish, i am thinking maybe the brakes should be adjusted, maybe there is an adjusment screw that can be loosened so that there is not as much drag? Any advise would be appreciated.
They don't have much torque and if you are the one test riding it and weigh over 200 pounds that will slow the thing down quite a bit. If you still suspect that the brake is sticking check it out. Put the bike on a block so the rear wheel is off the ground and just spin the wheel by hand (motor off). If the wheel doesn't spin freely than your brake may need adjustment.
@paisteboy I believe that is the problem, i dont think that the back tire will spin freely, there is some friction there so I am sure the needs to be an adjustment, is there just a screw that can me let out in order to reduce the friction, or does it get more detailed than that?
It could also be the wheel bearings so look at the break pads and see if they are making contact first. It's is really hard to give advice without seeing the bike so this is about all I can do for you.
i just gone to tractor supply and paid for my dirt bug 97cc its a new model. ima do this when i get it home today at about 2pm and ill put up a video.
No. In this case it's just thier to limit the speed of the minibike. The screw can be removed and it still won't do anymore damage. The governor is still their to protect the motor.
It actually seems a little high but they may have gone up in price in the past 3 years. I paid 250 plus tax back in 2008. I would check around a little more before buying.
It's no problem if you lost the screw. You just will not be able to limit the throttle without the screw. Not having the screw will not make the engine use more gasoline. It could be just leaking out from the top at the gas cap. Don't fill the tank up as much so it doesn't leak out from the cap. The gas cap doen't seal very well.
i want to get this bike, i have a couple of questions, i weigh about 140 lbs how fast do u think the bike will go? also if i take out the screw how much faster will it go? and were is the actual "governor"?
No. Nothing will happen to the engine. It isn't even needed for the engine to run properly. It is actually something extra put on the engine so that the minibikes speed can be limited.
You are making the correct adjustment but you are incorrect about the governor. That's the throttle adjustment screw. The governor isn't touched and is a completely different thing. The governor is the long vertical arm with three small holes in it.
hey i did the same but with my mbk spirit ... idonno but it got so much power now .. is it save? beceause i dont want my engine to explode or something
Just to let you know, you can take the screw out to let it have the most speed. that governer is only so people can adjust the speed a little if lets say a small kid is riding. there is another governer not on the throtle linkage, but on the engine that doesn't let the engine over rev. The mechanic that pepboys told me to go to when my doodlebug broke taught me this information about the engine.
When you get the mini bike it comes from the factory with the throttle set with a limit on how much it can be opened. This is really just an adjustment that allows you to open the throttle fully which make the minibike go faster. It's not the true governor.
i took the screw about 3/4 out and it goes about 28 on flat land. the police set up a speed radar at the bottom of a hill in my neighborhood and i went 33 according to it. it doesnt accel. any faster, but continues to reach higher speeds than when the screw was in. up to this point it has caused no damage to my engine.
dude the govener is in the motor and that is not how you adjust the govener it controls the amout of intake and the speed of the piston wich makes it faster bozo
to keep the screw from comming out u can always take it completly out or just take it out put a bolt on the screw and screw it all the way up to the head of the screw then put it back in and tightn the bolt down at the verry end were u want it
lol i disconected the governor screw completly and filed down the plastic catch on the carb so it can open all the way. my buddy has a 6.5 hp baja heat and although he can beat me a lil off the line i completly blow him away in speed.
Yes, it will make it faster if you adjust it correctly. The governor restricts how much the throttle can be accelerated. The come with the governor set fairly low for safety reasons.
No it wouldn't. One way I can think of without doing major engine work would be to put a larger spocket on the rear wheel. The only thing would be that you would loose top end speed in changing the gear ratio.
Nothing would probably happen if you took the screw off. But if you do take the screw off completely, make sure to save it just incase you do need it.
It's not running at full throttle all the time. It just allows you to get it up to full throttle and hold it there for long periods of time. Most lawn mowers run at full throttle the entire time you are mowing the lawn. It isn't running past the original governor safety limits.
its still leaking from air vent no it didnt blow smoke now when i turn it on makes a weird noise like a stall then i give a little of throttle and it turns of please help
