  • The Big Guns are Ready, 7/8th Artillery, 7/15th Artillery, 2/35th Artillery

  • Good to see the 'BIG' guns again. I served with 2bn/5th FA as a mechanic. 175 and 8 inchers rule.

  • I do not wish to be biased or idiotic to the host of this video but I am curious about effectiveness of artillery that the North Vietnamese utilized; from books I was always intrigued they had the Russian M1954/M46 130mm - this was said to outrange many Allied weapons - how was this often dealt with? I meant it had a rate of fire faster than many of the guns pictured here (apologies if I am providing the wrong information)

  • more vietnam vets killed themselves after the war than died in it .. says much about america?

  • "National Suicide" by Antony C. Sutton is a must read for anyone who wants to understand the truth of the Soviet's build up and supply of Red China and the NVA. This book will open your eyes and break your heart. God Bless our fighting men especially when they are sacrificed like lambs by the War Pigs who tax and rape us to fund and build their Novus Ordo Seclorum.

  • Thanks for the videos, and for you service.

What piece is that at 1:03; and 1:26?

  • @tommyzDad t-57 american artillery cannon

  • Did anyone out there serve in C Battery 7th Battalion 8th Artillery during 1969? I'd like to hear from you. It was a self propelled heavy artillery battery consisting of two 8" and two 175mm. We rotated from Xuan-Loc, Ben-Luc, and Bien-Hoa in addition to stints in the field. Heavy stuff, hurt my back from all the lifting. Peace!

  • @454something served with C Btry 7/8 th in 1970

  • Vietnam was a mistake. So many people died because of bad judgement of the US government. They practically killed an entire gen. of boys. Sometimes US must think before acting. But I will always respect the intention which was to defeat communism. And look at all these former communist countries, where the dictator leaders have killed their own people in camps and by torture. Communism is the biggest killer of the 20'th century by far. Without the US, Europe would have been red

  • In memory of Donald Gene Gibler, K.I.A. 40 years ago, on 18Feb1971, serving as gunner on 175mm Gun 1 with B/8/4th Artillery, during operation Lam Son 719.

  • love the picture of that gun "Chaley's Worry". Best name for a gun in that time i think.

  • 55 days after happening of VC ofensive,SVN was collapsed. those weapons did not help them avoid humiliated loss.

  • Vietnam = Huge fail.

  • As a Jewish American, I take tremendous exception to what you are saying. I am working my ass off to get back to healthy so that I can serve in Special Forces. I enlisted in the Army and I volunteer for everything I can to do my duty. You know nothing of Jews.

  • Im Polish, i know enought about what have you done to Poland (country that save your nation in medieval times). Cowards, Traitors, communists...

  • Yep. Sure. I have done so much to a country that I have never been in. Yep...sure have.

  • how about we nuke you? hater

  • We ??? who are you ? bunch of fags from Europe. Go and be a man and clean your land from muzzies. Fucking Brunos.

  • Ah, thats a waist of a nuke..... just slash his throat and hang him upside down. :D

  • Did you take your pills???

  • I think most of all you hate yourself and you've got good reasons to.

  • Idiot.

  • i'm save this video (thanks man)

  • Wizart, it's great that you reference the 1987 movie "Hamburger Hill". It's one of the great forgotten Vietnam flicks. Most especially the musical intro. Truly one of the greatest works of composer Phillip Glass. I''ve looked for it on vinyl, tape and CD for two decades, and have come to the conclusion that his leftist artiste buddies must have coerced him into dumping it. Thank God for the internet. Every military orchestra should know this brooding, apprehensive theme by heart.

  • wizart49 Thank you for serving our country .

  • thank you for the comment. i appreciate it

  • You really, really shouldn't have got involved.

  • back then you were called to serve your country or you enlisted. i enlisted and am proud to have serve my country and in vietnam.thanks for the comment.

  • Thank you for your service. I gather one of the strengths of the M110SP was it could switch from 230mm howitzer to 175mm long gun surprisingly quickly.

Are either calibers even used nowadays?

  • I should have written my previous comment a little better. It wasn't directed at you, but at the US government. It was something they shouldn't have gotten involved in.

I have great respect for you serving your country.

  • that is ok i was not mad or anything, sometimes i have the same problem when it comes to saying something.

  • Dude, great vid!

  • SP4 Donald ("Gib") Gene Gibler, K.I.A. 18Feb1971, 175mm Gun1, "Big, Bad, and Ugly", B Battery, 8th Battalion 4th Artillery. Gave his life, for this country, manning his gun during operation Lam Son 719 near border of Laos, killed by 152mm NVA direct fire. NEVER FORGOTTEN.

  • sorry to hear about SP4 Donald Gene Gibler he was a true hero

  • May he rest in peace. I read in an old magazine article (SOF, Eagle Illustrated, Gung-ho?) that in the latter phase of the war the NVA got very good at setting up counter-battery operations against firebases. Small teams would infiltrate, scope out the target and set up a fire mission of their own. Spotting guns that, like the D30, D20 and M46, were heavily dug in and concealed and brought in and set up surreptitiously.

  • That they faced in "safety" of their firebases every day. In Lam Son 719 they were sent on fire missions to face NVA guns, some set in caves that F-4's and Hueys couldn't hit either, since they rolled in and out to fire. They received immediate return DIRECT fire after firing their gun. Operation details were leaked through interpreters in planning, so NVA was set in and expecting artillery, infantry and air support. Many gave all in a short time period, in all services. All were heros.

  • They probably registered their guns in advance as well, we encountered this in Bosnia with the 120mm mortars, but we fell back 50 meters into a depression leaving them guessing!

  • whats the name of the song?

  • love and war.

  • is the best

  • it is somewhat misleading to leave out the roll of the NAVY in Vietnam. We had MUCH larger guns and LOTS of bombs dropped in South and NORTH Vietnam.

    CVA-31

Although I respect and appreciate the role of the Army and Marine Corps in the war in Vietnam. Hats off to you guys.

  • i know they did an outstanding job in vietnam. i have one video up that has some pictures of the navy. trying to find more.

  • Been there , done that!! 11th Marines,RVN 68/69 An Hoa Semper Fi

  • Great to see the 8" guns! I Corp 1970, C-1, Camp Carroll, LZ Nancy, Rakkassan, FSB Barbara. 1st/39th, 108th Group, XXIV Corp. My son enlists in the Army tomorrow.

  • glad you liked it. i wish your son luck. what is he going in to be.

  • He is smarter than his old man and is getting an MOS in the 25 series, military intelligence. The AIT is nearly six months!

  • I didn't know "Gib" but I was eating the same dust at the same time. I was in A Battery, 1st Bn, 39th Field Artillery. I believe Gib's battalion and mine were part of the 108th Group XXIV Corp. At that time all the 8" and 175" were corp assets sent to support the 101st and the 5th Mech. We had moved from FSB Rakkasson to FSB Barbara after being in the battle of Ripcord. I got to go home on March 20, 1971. I think about how lucky I was each day I wake up. God Bless.

  • Thank you and wizart for doing your duty as Gib did, risking your lives in the same dust facing same hardships, and hardships since then, I know they were/are many. I have learned much respect not knowing what had to be done then and what you all faced every day there, 24/7/365. His battalion was based at Carroll, companion to 2/94th Marine. Sent to border north of Lao Bao on last mission. Gib is experiencing Perfect Peace . Glad you're home. God bless you and yours, family and fellow soldiers.

  • Wow, those are some big guns!

  • back then they were i like to see some of todays weapons we use.but my favorite is still the 155mm howitzer

  • Good gun. Tested them in Ft Sill in 67.

Today it is called the Paladin. Many newer updates have been added of course. Welcome home brother.

  • wow cool

  • Thanks wiz. December 1956 Ho Chi Minh started his rage against So. Vietnam the year I was born. This war ended on my 17th birthday Jan. 27 1973. I should say the US's invovlement ended. Over 50,000 US troops died with an average age of 19. Boys, just out of high school. LBJ one of our "presidents" in my opinion is the single biggest cause of the loss of that campaign. I salute the efforts of those that died and those that are still with us. I recognize the POW/MIA problem that still exists.

  • thanks

  • Great video! I can't wait to join the Artillery Reserve, only 10 more months till I'm of age :D.

  • wish you luck.just keep in touch.

  • Thanks. Don't worry, I'll still be on here.
