  • After reading the heartfelt stories re people losing their best friend, there are a couple things I want to mention.

Your dog had a good home and was loved, take comfort in that fact.

When you are ready (or the 'right one' comes along) PLEASE share your

    life with another one ~

You are a great pet owner and should be rewarded with the love of another dog!

    [just to keep this easy..]

    :)

Only 3 years since he went and i still miss him like crazy. This song brings back alot of memories and heartache...but still i listen, thankyou jim xx a fantastic song x

  • This songs makes me very nostalgic.

As a child, my father loved to play this song, and a lot of songs from his Talking To Your Heart album.

  • ahhhh so sad

  • I had a dog who was put to sleep when he had cancer. It was so sad I had to go get another dog which I still have with me. A house is not a home without a dog.

  • Damn! I cry.

  • @denniss265 Hey, no shame in that! I am 62, and still miss my papa, and my little Sheltie dog that we had to put to sleep a few years back. You don't shed a tear over something or someone you don't care about. Just means you're human.

  • Sound of my childhood this one. I still get a lump in my throat thinking about poor old Tige. :)

  • I've turned into a complete softie, I've been listening to this song since I was a kid without it bothering me but over the last couple years it gives me a cold shiver. It's not really the lyrics or the tune but the fact that such a great singer died so tragically so young. RIP Jim Reeves.

  • I can remember crying the first time i heard this song, thanks for sharing.

  • I have looked for this song for so long. Thanks Jim!!!

  • A great song, but for this time look for Bing Crosby and David Bowie and "Drummer Boy" or look for Andy Wiiliams and the Honda advert.

  • briliant looking for this for yrs thankyou

    thankyou

  • @beachbumdave

This man has the voice of an angel. Whatever he sings tugs at the heart strings and tear ducts. Was there a voice with a more perfect pitch? I doubt it.

  • Beautiful song. My Border Collie "Zak" is now near 14yrs old. Don't know what how i'll handle it when its time to say goodbye.

  • That was awesome. It makes you understand how a true friend and companion never actually leaves. They are there in mind and spirit no matter what. Very nice!

  • Awe. Bless.

  • I'm only 17 but i love this song.

I grew up with my parents always playing it and then a few years ago i actually understood what it was about and i cried the first time i listened to it properly.

  • The same way all of his records were fantastic

  • The hardest part about having a pet is knowing that one day you'll have to say goodbye.

  • @stang393 Yeh. A piece of your heart dies.

  • @stang393 Why do we do this to ourselves? My dad died 20 months after his Jack Russell was put down. My German Shepherd/Border Collie cross by the name of Max is 8 and a half years old. I'll be inconsolable when his time comes. To honeycomb211 and all other dog lovers, I say that a dog is NOT a pet, it is FAMILY! Love them whilst you have the opportunity.

  • @stang393 true story i had a cat and she got run over and the worst part was she was pregnant

  • @stang393 I did and im dying inside i miss my baby boy so much :'(

  • Thank you, just lost my best friend Spot a week ago, this helps. And your it good to see Jim Travis at one of his best.

  • My story is much the same. I haven't heard this song for almost 25 years,

My Collie was called Pally. She was my world when I was growing up. She shared the most difficult of teenage years with me as girlfriends came and went. When my parents bought me a 1 way ticket to South Africa at the age of 18, I said goodbye to Pally,,, She died a few weeks later.... God rest you Pally, n hopefully we'll meet again sometime

  • Man's Best Friend, Faithful To The End.........

  • You have no idea how long I have been looking for this song! OMG! My daddy died and I wanted to find this song for him. So many memories are flooding back right now. Thanks for taking the time.

  • love border collies

  • I love this song brings back memories of all the dogs I have had in my life. Each had their very own personality and I still miss them so much! Till we meet again x

  • This was one of my Dad's favorite songs. He use to sing it to me and I would cry so hard. He would look down at me and wipe my tears away. Just like Tige my Dad died 3 years ago. God I miss him.

Sorry to here about your dog, I hate the pain of losing your animals.

  • Full of emotions god i hate listening to this song.

  • God bless Henry who died two weeks ago, never realised a man could miss his dog so much, hope your playing in those meadows in the sky,

  • This gives me shivers. It is so lovely. Just shows how loyal a dog is.

  • I haven't heard this song since I was a little girl..my Dad had all of Jim Reeves albums and as kids we all listened and loved them.

  • thank you willie taylor! this song is from my childhood and clear favorite; still brings tears to my eyes

  • i have tryed to fined this song for years i cry every time i hear it i still now it word for word it was my dads favert and im only 28

  • i haven,t heard this song since i was a young girl when my parents bought it and i cried my eyes out for days its so sad .thanks for posting .bring back a lot of memories all good ones.

  • A follow up... iTunes does not have Old Tige in its Jim Reeves catalog. Does anyone know where I can download it?

  • Limewire!!

  • I did not know Jim Reeves did this song. My mom had an album of story songs that Wink Martindale did in the '60s. Old Tige was on the album. I looked for 25 years to find that album. Then, I found Wink's website in Oct. 01. He said he didn't have the song. Then, on my birthday arrived a custom CD from Wink. He dedicated it to my mom. Having those old songs, and Tige, made it a wonderful Bday. Finally, in 02 I rescued a sheppard, named him "Tige." Now I can download Jim Reeves version.

  • what kind of shepperd is this

  • Dog pictured is a Border Collie. They certainly exhibit the behaviour featured in the song. I have one. Lovely song.. never heard it before.

  • you dont know how long i been looking for this record before i finaly got it at a car boot sale

  • Haven't heard this for over 25 years. Thanks!

  • Mans best friend and woman's too.

  • Wonderful song. Makes me think of Delilah, my wonderful long haired German Shepherd. She almost ten years old now and they are not very long living animals....

  • This could darn bring a tear to an ole miner's glass eye, that's fer sure. Yee-haw!

  • Hilarious!

(Oh, I am a heartless Brit)

Looked this up because of the same radio programme as the others. Priceless!

  • Jim Reeves - voice like velvet. This song brings floods of memories back to me.

  • They just don't make music like this anymore...so sad.....your friends should be that true to you.......

  • jim goodbless brilliaint im 36 your one of my best singers and my dads brill.

  • wullie your murder.lol av no heard is song in about 20 years noo am sitting greetin ...superb mate

  • I listened to the same radio programme as ShiningPie-I'd never heard this song before. "How old Tige pulled me from the creek when I had no pulse or breath,

and how he saved me from the chargin' bull that gored my Dad to death." To borrow from Oscar Wilde, it would be a hard man who could hear those lines without laughing out loud. I certainly haven't managed it yet.

  • I have to say I rather like Neil Innes' story of how the Bonzo Dog Band, whilst on tour, would go into cafes, buy 10 plays on the jukebox, and then put this record on repeat........ Oh, to have been in that cafe........
