  • THIS MAN INVENTED THE DDT OF COURSE IT STANDS FOR DAMEAINS DINNER TIME

  • Roberts had the promos and the body language to a T. One of the best heels ever.

  • AWESOME PROMO, TRUELY AWESOME CHARACTER.

  • Evil Jake Roberts is one of the top 10 heels EVER.

  • The man is deranged to some degree in real life, and he was able to bring that with him. There's plenty of other promos he's done that just make your flesh crawl. The most believable heel in wrestling ever, period. He was not a caricature. He was projecting something truly real in himself. There's no other way to explain it. He speaks to every dark impulse you can have, that you don't ever want to admit. I remember when he was supposed to be the "Higher Power." I wish he had been.

  • Jake the Snake was probably the best heel of all time. I don't see any better than this. Unlike the majority of the wrestlers he had brains and knew how to do it well, almost perfectly.

  • For my money the best choice of character to athlete ever. Name, DDT, Damien, attitude everything was perfect. Coming up with a character for a wrestler was never any sweeter than this.

  • Now that is a heel turn!

  • Why are they bleeping out the name Savage?

  • Jake Roberts was fantastic, ok he never had a great body, wasn't the best of wrestlers, but boy could he cut an exciting promo or what?? not to mention his electrifying entrance with a snake.

  • I find it really mind boggling as to why Jake Roberts isn't in the hall of fame - especially since he's on good terms with WWE, infact a few years ago, WWE even paid for him to go into drug rehab - they think very highly of Jake, and appear to have a lot of time for him.

  • @Rob23 i think i read somewhere that he was offered but declined because it degrades wrestlers or something like that

  • They just dont do interviews like this anymore.Nobody could do an interview like Roberts could.

  • Jake Roberts - The Master of Promos. He was attitude before the Attitude Era.

  • Uhh... why is Savage blanked out? Crappy audio?

  • @austinfailz This was probably during the time when Savage and the WWE were trying to distance each other as far as possible. Remember that until WWE All-Stars came out, Vince McMahon had some very bad blood with Savage and never wanted to mention him again.

  • I love it... when I turn on "wrestling" I can't wait for "talking". Love Snake's promos... but I still wouldn't pay to hear any guy "talk." That's why people watch movies and talk shows dammit.

  • Savage and Roberts were the best at promos and Piper.. Rock is just a comedy act, Austin is great anf Flair is overrated, he just screams every word.

  • This being well before the attitude era shows how the pg rating should not stop the product from being edgy, dramatic and compelling.

  • "Please bring her back, let me touch her again!"lol

Fucking awesome Heel Promo and Roberts just oooooooozes charisma.

  • oohh I would pay for that! LMAO ahhh the good old days when wrestling was the sh@#! :)

  • This man was serial-killer creepy as a heel....BRILLIANT

  • WHY the FK!! is he not in hall of fame!!!

  • DDT DDT DDT

  • If only we could've seen Jake "The Snake" Roberts VS Raven! That would've been some EPIC sotrytelling!

  • YOU LOVED IT, GENE!

  • why is this man not in the hall of fame???

  • @allday87 Cocaine is a hell of a drug

  • @allday87 because wwf-wwe spent millions on his rehab. but who cares. he deserves the hall of fame

  • I should have to pay for that. Hahahahahahahahahahahahahaha!!!!

  • Did anyone ever beat down Mean Gene? It seems like he was the only person in wrestling that no wrestler could smack around.

  • Comment removed

  • trust me. jesus they dont make them like jake roberts no more

  • Miss the good old days of wrestling that was entertaining.

  • josh matthews is always scared around modern "wrestlers" while Mean Gene would get in wrestlers' faces sometimes!

  • This is oscar-worthy

  • GET THE HELL OUTTA ... xD

  • Trust me

  • Comment removed

  • now this is pyschology, both jake and gene can work a crowd at their worst than 3/4 of wwe's current roster at their best

  • man Jake the Snake is a fuckin wild man

  • Damien was killed and a month later Jake is a Heel.. writers were quick back then haha..

  • LOL; the GREAT Jake the Snake. "It felt so good I should have had to pay for that!" Mean Gene; classic!

  • This man is amazing, I've never really liked classic wrestling but Jake "the snake" has made me look into it and boy am I glad.

  • @SSiam92 You've discovered a real treasure, my friend. Enjoy.

  • Everything about Roberts was so sleazy.

  • @bertmustin True, but damn if it didn't work!

  • wwe there is not one superstar that even comes close to comparing anyone to jake roberts when comes to promos, in his day hogan, warrior, savage, piper, flair anyone even to this very day no one has anything on jake roberts comming close to his promos he was and still is the best.

  • Jake the Snake Roberts could cut promos that the wwe locker room today cant even comprehend.

  • @MsProWrestling Probably b/c he's too high

  • @Vergadoce so what?

  • @andysemide Just making a statement of fact. Aint judging. I'm all w/the being high part

  • Comment removed

  • jake is a great performer

  • 4 people got the hell out of here

  • Jake at his best...and sickest!! He was a master at the game!!

  • Just this 1 1/2 minute clip alone reminds me how over produced WWE is. Cracking insider jokes and letting CM Punk break the fourth wall doesn't make up for it.

  • holy shit, that was intense. classic. snake at his best!

  • Man, I miss the old days. Too damn classic.

  • i could cultivate her into something that even i could want ! ;) Puppies !!!

  • No one pulls off a moustache like Jake the Snake...that thing is amazing haha

  • Triple H might be the cerebral assassin, Jake was the best at mind games on and off the ring. He was soooooooo underrated and unappreciated by the WWF/WWE...To much focus on hogan and guys like Jake and Mr. Perfect wasted on the wayside...Jake and Perfect had more talent that most of the current WWE roster. Jake would make the Miz Wiz on his shorts, apologize for the wrestling fans for imitating a wrestler and leave.

  • Lol, Gene is disgusted.

  • i agree i brought wwe 12 and it;s even boring me cause it;s too realistic lol john cena hulks up lol

  • jake the snake was amazing and true to the snake gimmick the deadliest land reptile on earth is the inland taipan from australia, go jakster ur da man

  • never knew why he didn't win the title??

  • @Hartebreaker84 Short answer: booze and crack. Longer answer: McMahon ego, powertrips, questions over how the media would handle him if he was under more of the spotlight, weren't quite prepared in his day for such a popular heel, bad luck, bad judgement, (I could go on). Watch "Beyond The Mat" (but know he hates the way he is portrayed), more amusingly, The Iron Sheik tells a great Jake story in a Shoot interview which is on Youtube.

  • @aceholepictures Such a shame really!! Nowadays he would be champion someone with his charisma! Do yo think??

  • @Hartebreaker84 Unfortunately, I think not. Charisma doesn't seem as important today as a shaved chest, hulking biceps and the ability to be bland whilst issuing stiff punches. It pains me to say it (I know others having being saying it for years) but wrestling is dead. WWE, TNA... they're just dull. Badly managed, badly acted, badly wrestled. They have nothing. I'm gonna give ROH a try before giving up on it completely but these days a Jake Roberts wouldn't get through the door of WWE.

  • @Hartebreaker84 he never won the title because he didn't need it to get over.

  • Mean Gene: "Get GET OUTTA HERE!!"" Classic Mean Gene. Hahaha.. ANNOUNCERS.. take notes. This is how you sell the wrestlers while you interview them. Not stand there like zombies.

  • @andyk4986 It helps that Gene had such a distinctive voice and style, but yea, Gene knew to actually *sell* what was going on around him, to add more emotion, especially to something as explosive as this.

  • Jake "The Snake" Roberts knew how to capture an audience, both inside and out of the ring. What a great promo...just trust him ;) !

  • "It felt so good I should have to pay for that!"Classic Jake

  • Tuesday Night in Texas, the greatest PPV of all time!

  • Imagine if he stayed away from drugs...

  • @RiskuBusiness Yeah, he'd have been duller than Marty Jannetty.

  • I can cultivate her into something that even I could want!

Damn, Jake "the Snake" Roberts was a creepy SOB....still is.

  • What an utter genius.

  • please let me touch her again............ catchin line i think i'm gonna use it mmmmm maybe saturday when in my weekly pervert hunt for the 15 and the 16 year old girls

  • I'd forgotten there was a point where they edited out Randy Savage's name from stuff.

  • please let me touch her again...best line ever

  • Tuesday in Texas...the seeds of Attitude were planted?

  • Best promo's I have seen are from Jake Roberts,CM Punk, Jon Moxley and Roddy Piper. IMO

  • @dcrediah who is Jon Moxley?

  • @1234dragonsky FCWs Dean Ambrose. One of the best former indy guys. He is brilliant. Search him here on youtube

  • @dcrediah oh i know him but i didnt know that name of him

  • @1234dragonsky no prob man. That was his indy name. He's freaking great isnt he? There is a match where CM Punk came to FCW (i think like 2-3 weeks ago) and faced Ambrose in a match, it was freakin awesome to say the least

  • @dcrediah yeah FCW have few good talents that i cant wait to come to WWE

  • It's amazing the reaction Liz getting slapped got. Even on commentary, Gorilla Monsoon lost his mind and Bobby Heenan, the heel, was speechless. That's all it took, Liz getting slapped...you'd never be able to garner that kind of a reaction today with something so simple and finely executed. They'd never have the patience to build up a character like Jake or Macho, or one like Liz who nobody could imagine anyone hurting.

  • @jmn327 Just wanted to say that's a brilliant comment. For years Savage and the WWF did a great job surrounding Liz with violence in a way that there was always a threat that something was going to happen to her, but it never did. They just kept building and building the tension. Then they got the perfect guy to finally do the deed. When it happened people went nuts. The Roberts/Savage feud is one of the greatest in history. Wrestlers today should be forced to study it.

  • Whoa I remember watching this interview live when I was like 5.

he just wants a woman to beat and cherish is that to much to ask? lol

  • lol this is awesome

  • Why was Savage censored?

  • @StephenAlexWalker i think it was a slight technical difficulty

  • I still think Roberts is the best ever on the mic....but I think that The Miz and CM Punk are pretty damn good

  • As a kid the only wrestler that scared me was Jake the snake Roberts. The undertaker was a bit too gimicky to be really scared of, but when it came to Jake the snake that dude was just real nasty vicious heel that it made your skin crawl.

  • There's Nobody who can beat Jake the snake at a heel promo. Best ever

  • Jake the snake Roberts was a great promo heel just perfect

  • Now that's a guy that grabs your attention and captivate that camera leaving you on the edge wondering what's next. If it wasn't for his demons, Jake Roberts would have - and some might fairly say already has - become the most influential guy in the business, belts were made to put guys across, the thing with Jake never had the greatest physique or that he never needed a strap to put himself over, his personna and carefully worded promos shone through beyond any other gimmick you could give to

  • @tanko1805 Amen bro.

  • What i always found fascinating about Jake is that he was a real actor, an artist! He could give expression to his promos and not just stand there oilled up and roaring stupid clichés like: "you know something, Mean Gean?"...

  • 4 people are the sort of people that even i couldn't want

  • I just got a glimpse of what REAL heels use to be. That promo gave me chills...I think I'm gonna watch some more of his promos.

  • Mickey Rourke as Jake the Snake...

  • whoa, why don't I remember this?

was this before or after the snake bite?

  • @KMFCM After.

  • @KMFCM It was After.

  • One of the best heels of all time, bar none.

  • I'd let this guy molest my daughters. He's so awesome

  • Delicious.

  • 95% of the WWF lockeroom today take notes

  • @SantiagoKali ... Jake Roberts was extreme before extreme was cool, he was the ultimate master of psychology and prob the most inventive wrestler in history

  • @SantiagoKali

    WWE*

  • Comment removed

  • @AmericanNohbuddy

No matter what, to me it will always be WWF

  • @SantiagoKali It's not so much in everyone taking notes as it is with WWE not letting them talk without a script.

  • John Cena Take notes

  • Sick as hell...yet...brilliant

  • Jake probably HAS paid to do that... many times!

  • The wrestling wasn't necessarily better back then. But the promos shore as hell were!

  • @SuperKeith00 In some ways the wrestling was worse back in the 'Golden Era' than it is today (try watching Wrestlemania 4, 5 and even 6 for it's wrestling value for example). What was better back then was character consistency, ring psychology and plot development. I believe this was because the WWF had a longer period of time to establish feuds between 4 PPVs back in 1988 - 1992 in comparison to the one PPV a month schedule from 1995 plus all the Raws and Smackdowns involved.

  • No one in the history of wrestling did "Creepy" better than Jake. The guy could cut a promo, that could make your skin crawl. Truly one of the best ever.

  • @Runforestrun

You are correct. Twenty years later, when we've seen everything taken as far an extreme as imaginable in wrestling, Jake Roberts' promos still get to you like they did back then... That's fucking magical.

  • great promo by jake the snake and great sell of the promo by mene gene.

  • Ladies and gentleman, the only man alive that could've out done Heath Ledger, Jack Nicholson, or Mark Hamill as The Joker.

Goodness gracious, that promo was beyond good, I watched it at least 4 times.

Being in my late 20's I can appreciate this more, looks like we've all been cheated out of not getting to see P4P the greatest wrestler of all-time. What the hell was Vince thinking having at no point made the man the face of the company?

  • @jafargrandvizier The reason Jake was never a champion in WWE is bc he never wanted to be. At least that's what I've heard.

  • @cwes478 Pretty true that. Jake saw wrestling as an art rather than a means to an end so ring psychology to him was first and foremost and everything else followed afterwards, For all of Robert's flaws, there is no doubt he was the twisted genius of the WWF. His contribution to wrestling was so important he is considered a legend without having won a single title in his WWF run between 1986 - 1992.

  • the real deal heel!!!!!!!!!!!!!!....he may not have had the imposing muscular physique, but he was one of the best psychologists!!!!!!!!!

  • ""I could Cultivate her into something even I would want" Brilliant

  • Why did they bleep out Ms. Elizabeth and Randy savage? WTF, Fuck you WWE!!

  • you can see where the rock and stone cold got their influence from.

  • Its a crime that this man hasn't been inducted into the wwe hof, what a legend.

  • Stone Cold + Macho Man = Jake Roberts lol

  • Jake: C'mon, Gene! You loved it!

  • jake looks in shape here

  • LOL @ Mean Gene at the end.

  • Mene Gene to Jake, "GTFO!"

  • Cold, manipulative, and at sometimes perverted. That's how a heel promo should sound.

  • who was the best heel Triple H or Jake Roberts?

  • @Hoodstar1991k973 Jake Roberts....HHH's heel promos are usually "I'm the best" blah blah blah but Jake could run the gamut on emotions.

  • The current WWE stars need to watch this and take notes! This was PG era and look how much better it is then todays current PG crap!!!!

  • @pearljam619 - bravo - best comment here. . . this is the reason why I tell people that in my opinion 80s was the original attitude era. In fact I would say it was a better attitude era than the one in the later part of 90s because it had alot of CLASS . . . which was mostly missing in the late 90s attitude era.

  • @pearljam619 The problem is that today's PG-standarts are much different then back then because parents in America and subsequently all over the world have become pussies who want to lock their kids away in a golden cage so to never learn about the horrors of the real world. And when the kids are older and are suddenly exposed to non-PG stuff or real life problems they can't cope with it and are damaged for life...and sometimes end up going on a killing spree for good measure.

  • Mean Gene: "FUCK IT!"

  • He was an awesome heel. Sad he's had so many problems. The guy is so talented!

  • that was creepy, how's that for a heel!

  • @CineRecon yeah, this would put all the current WWE heels to shame.

  • Epic promo!

  • we went from mene gene to micheal cole then matt striker. WTF?

  • now THAT is what you call a promo

  • LEMME TOUCH HER AGAIN....

    *mean gene flips out*

  • why the hell did they bleep out Savage???

  • WWE went from Cutting Edge to Candy-Ass in 20 years

  • Best heel in history of WWF and WWE

  • This is such a good promo I had to watch it like 5 times over.

  • Jake the snake is nutty in real life and i think a bit gay.

  • @CastoreAprile i heard he dated both Jim Beam and Jack Daniels one time...maybe at the same time, lol

  • @velvetgoldmine30 That sounds like something Lawler would say.

  • Jake the Stache Roberts.

  • y did they censor "savage"? 0:27 to 0:29

  • I dont know what was better. The promo or the stache.

  • This sets the record for Most References to beating a woman in one promo

  • Jake is a sickest superstar in wrestling!

  • jake the snake roberts. thoes mic skills. wow.

  • okerlunds reaction was awesome" get the hell outta here"

  • 4 people like Randy Orton promos

  • The "Attitude" crowd doesn't realize this is one of the filthiest promos ever done in wrestling. Still makes my skin crawl.

  • @oldhatrs25

Attitude Era was shit compared to this. This was when the ideas were really cooking with brilliant & crazy angles that you'd never see today. I loved the WWF back when it was non-PC. 1992 was pretty much the last year that had those really cool angles. 1991 was full of them. This, the cobra attack, Flair's sadistic attack on Piper, Warrior being attacked & stuffed in a coffin, Jake training the Warrior by locking him in coffins & burying him alive, Jake's snake getting squashed, etc

  • @wtcvidman Holy jesus, I remember when Warrior was being stuffed into the coffin and it took a while to get him out....really scared the bejesus out of me when I was a youngster
