ROFLMAO! "Special Oriental ingredients" like what? Fragrance No 3, Petrolatum.... Not for nothing Nanck Kwan look like she would have been an AWESOME villaness in a movie or Soap Opera (more like Dallas/Falcon Crest).
"Oriental" lol, seriously?! I was raised with the notion Asian people do NOT like or even want to be called "Oriental". Asian women have great skin, cuz their Asian lol!
OH MY GOD!!! So happy to find this Suzie Wong pearl cream commercial here. A good laugh ........ again......... used to watch laugh at it back in the early 90's. Made of real pearl?........ what a lie.
Thanks for posting this! I've been making fun of this for years! They couldn't have picked a worse name for an Oriental woman to pronounce, it's only 5 letters, and it has an R and an L. LOL @ ajt141.
I use a different brand of a "pearl cream" only because I have very dry skin and it actually works. But you know why it works? The "secret Oriental ingredients" are glycerin and mineral oil. I don't know if the pearl cream I use really has pearl powder in it, but it smells nice.
Drag Queen Varla Jean Merman did a spoof film where she was driving and she was accosted by people 'accusing her of having a facelift' AND she went crazy and crashed her car! Genius!
Boy does this bring back memories! But, on the real side, this stuff works. I use it, and I know people who use it that look great! If you can find some Ly-Na Pearl Cream, try it! Pearl Cream does work.
it's great to watch this infomercial in 2009. tv was so funny! i found some background on its history as well as a useful transcription on theopenend(.)com
She doesn't have a speech impediment people. First, she is from Hong Kong and thus Cantonese would be her first language. Cantonese does not have an r sound. Second, she speaks British English which does not pronounce the final r. Cantonese does have an l sound.
OMG! I love that you posted this. When I was a kid I used to do a perfect imitation of the gruff announcer back in the 90s when this aired all the time. I love that it says if your friends dont accuse you of having had a face lift simply return the unused portion for a full refund LOL! Too Funny!!
OH MY EFFIN GOD. I can't believe you have this commercial!!! I was just thinking about this shit and thought, NO WAY am I gonna find this insanity on youtube. And there it is. I remember watching this crap in '90; they aired it all the time. Sweet memories.
Thank you so much for posting this! I've had this in the back of my mind forever and wished I could see it. Recently I was telling a friend about it, and she had never seen it. Yet she's been quoting it (even sending texts of it to me) ever since. Now I can actually show it to her! It's nice to know I'm not alone here! :) Thanks again for the memory! I had no idea that woman was Nancy Kwan!!!
This just shows you really can find almost anything online. My girlfriend didn't believe that "ancient Chinese secret" was from old pearl cream commercials, and 10 seconds later I prove her wrong. Go Technology!
oh damn! growing up, my friends and i entertained ourselves for hours doing "puwl cweem" imitations...we are half-chinese, just like nancy kwan! eff the PC police. and bless my oriental genes -- they have secret ingredients, you know. =) thanks for posting!!
My dad and I got a huge kick out of this. We were recollecting 1080's commericals and this was one of our top contenders for rediculios commercial we tired of watching. you made our evening!
This commercial is hiliarious: I nearly fell out of my chair laughing! "If your friends don't accuse you of having a facelift, simply return the unused portion for a full refund."
