  • i just use a piece of stirofoam on my string and it works better than this

  • Thank you! very easy to make it. I will try it soon

  • Nicely done! Especially liked the paper clip!

  • @laki22zr 11/2 times the depth of the water above your top fly or above your splitshot.

  • @laki22zr

They are primarily used for fly fishing, mostly for nymphing. They are usually attached high up in the butt section of the leader.

  • Glow bug yarn? Doesn't that really get waterlogged? My Glo bug eggs don't even float?

  • @shakeyfly Yeah they will soak up water after a bit. Just squeeze the water out and apply fly floatant and work it into the fibers and you're back in business. These don't sink like glo bug eggs because the fibers are spread out and not tightly packed like on an egg.

Most of the time you can shake the water free and dry these out just by making a couple of quick false casts.

  • @shakeyfly After I make mine I spray in with a little bit of 3M scotch guard. Also works well with dry flies.

  • @flyfish1995 Thanks for the tip I'm going to have to try that! I make mine with Macrame Polypropylene yarn. Same thing with the rubber rings etc. I usually have to soak it in a water repellent treatment. I will DEFINITELY have to try that Scotch guard!

  • jesus look at that watch woodja

  • @fasteddie925 you irish?

  • Uh Oh, we have a Euro-Elitist. Not every condition will allow you to keep a tight line at the right depth. We all can't be standing next to a chest deep riffle running flies through it from the end of our 10 footer...

  • great idea, making a few right now

  • keep your line tight no need for this floating concoction

  • @dave777blaster You use floaters to keep the bait off the bottom....

  • Great idea for storing them on a paper clip! Would never have thought of that!!

  • Wow, cool idea. I've got to give that one a try myself. My only concern would be if the second o-ring would pull off of the yarn end but it doesn't seem like it would. Thanks

  • Ok, Took a shot at these but with a small twist. Used the #36 (5/16" O.D.) O-ring as described. Then, instead of 'wrapping', I used a #60 (1/4" O.D.) O-ring to bind. Again, using forceps (hemostats?) to open the #60 O-ring and push over the #36 and onto the yarn to replace the yarn binding. Haven't tried them yet but much faster to put together.

  • love the idea , as of all great ideas "why didnt i think of that"

  • Nice video! Thanks for taking the time to make it!

  • I have gotten 7 chanel cat off of this it is cool and fun to use thanks for the tips woh hoh!!!!!!

  • really cool and usefull. thanks

  • nice vid but you use WAY to MUCH ran man wat a waste of yarn that is

  • It's just easier to fold and work with a longer piece, but you can certainly go shorter to save on yarn. Just remember, you're doubling the strand over twice so even a 10 inch piece gets short pretty quick.

  • @tightlinevideo check it out new, rodhoder with strike indicators.

  • good vid but why use so much of the yarn at the beginning?

  • GREAT video!

  • great vid and idea! I'll be toting these around from now on instead of buying them for 10x the price. cheers!

  • this video is what youtube is about !!! great information..well presented..

  • It's much easier and less waste if you just pull the yarn through and cut it off.

  • this ig great for those tricky catfish.

  • I did this same thing but instead of an O ring i cut a piece off the shaft of a ballpoint pen

  • hey thanks

this'll help me a lot with my current strike indicator problem

  • Good Stuff - Enjoyed the vid

  • fucking sweet man your smart i tried to make one before....i ened up hurt my shelf

  • Sweet!

  • @calebseiter What a troll. I found a bag of 20 of these o-rings for around sixty cents. didn't your mom ever tell you about saying something nice or not at all?

  • thanks

  • Superb quality in all the ways that matter.

  • excellent video on making my favorite type of indicator! some great tricks in there!

  • NICE!

  • really good
