Umezz either did bad licensing rights without realizing that the director or producers of the D.C movie will make a pile of crap out of it,, or he sold them to "laugh all the way to the bank." I pick the last one.
I was in this movie when I was 11 years old and have been looking for a copy since I left Japan! My father was stationed there. Do you know how I can get a copy?
@chcknhawk I haven't seen him since graduation in 1993. I wish I could find another copy myself. I'm not having any success in remembering most of it. Maybe eBay or Amazon. I wish you the best! BTW marboclepto says he is the black kid from the movie. Maybe he has a copy somewhere. He posted on the Select scenes from The Drifting Classroom" clip. Best wishes!
@chcknhawk I was in a graphics class with a guy that was in that movie when he was about the same age (I think). He let us watch it. The whole thing? I don't remember. OMG, it was "interesting". Can't remember much from it except that it had Doug McClur and a monster that urinated clean water. Deus ex machina to the rescue?
MMMMMmmmk, so I stumbled across your lovely website today, and found the link to this. This has perhaps made not only my day, but my month. Or I might stretch it to a year.
Nothing makes me happier than awful movies, and nothing else makes me happier knowing that I'm moving to the land in 5 days where this was made.
I watched this and....I don't know what the fuck to think anymore. I mean, I've read the manga, and I thought oh hey a movie adaption, cool. I just cannot recommend this movie to anyone unless you enjoy sheer WHAT THE FUCK-ness.
It`s amazing how the manga looks so unbelievebly incredible, but at the same time the movie looks like it couldnt possibly in this universe or in any other be any worse at all.
lol this movie looks so crappy, and yet, i wanna see it because it looks like one of those dumb but funny films....even though it's suppose to be a horror ^.^
I started reading the manga online and it was amazing, the movie sucked though. I can't get all the manga online, are the last 8 volumes available in english or am I wasting my time buying them?
Claytonian! The little old lady was RETURNING her rations. She didn't feel right accepting food when the kids were in danger of starving. And the little boy was a neighbor's child even in the movie!
They did a TV miniseries of the manga. Er... sort of. The offenses of the mini-series exceed those of the movie. Plus, the kids get older and less numerous each time. The manga, they're elementary and hundreds. This, they're junior high and a few dozen or so. The tv series? High school seniors on the verge of graduating (or failing out) and less than 20. Though Sekiya becomes a perverted female teacher.
I went to school with a few of the people in this movie. It was a pretty big thing for those involved but I never watched the movie until now...and wow. I didn't understand then thought it was just me and here almost 20 years or so later and I still laugh my ass off.
I played the role of Kenny.. As clay put it.. the jerry curl kid.. lol But it was a fun experience... Especially the mc donalds every single day for 4 mo free.. I have the movie on dvd.. Its weird how ppl are still talking bout it.. almost 25 yrs lata..
HAHAHAHA omg i died of laughter. i was searching for things on the dritfting classroom cuz some of the manga was featured in my fav band dir en grey's video dozing green. it sounded pretty neat but when i heard it was made into a japanese horror movie is when i knew it had to hysterically lame. example the grudge, kwaiden, death trance. anyway, great review, manga still sounds great.
I watched the first ten minutes on youtube and In my mind I went "w t f is this. Happy hardcore ridiculous stuff." Nothing like the gory, dark far-fetched manga.
Love the way you describe the scenes, and your hilarious review xD
Btw: VERY disturbing pee scenes. People in the 80s, they were on CRACK, REAL CRACK.
If u noticed the movie was filmed in 1985.. Don't knock the movie until u see it.. Clay only shows the soft side of the movie.. There is violence.. I played the black kid with the jerry curl. lol Clay done a hilarious job critiquing this movie..
Keep in mind.. This movie was done in 1985.. No green screen.. I'm sure if it were filmed today.. It would be much different.. I got payed alot of money filming it. so i didn't care..
Thank you SO MUCH!! I just got started on the manga and I was planning on watching this along with DragonHead. Now I totally have to buy this to show to my friends.
"I want to have your baby." Aren't the Japanese awesome?!
Man, and I thought a movie of the Shifting Classroom would be so cool, but apparently it's the most stupid thing ever. Oh well, the Americans will get their hands on the manga and do it properly in one of their remakes.
Ah, that was great. There is also a drama version of the Drifting Classroom called, "Long Love Letter". Kubozuka Yosuke is the teacher, so check it out!
That's sad. It doesn't even follow the manga series correctly! That is crap! The only way I'll watch it if it is on TV. I'll just stick to the manga series from now.
Okay, that was, indeed, horrifying. Worthy of the MST3K boys, though I'm not sure of what robots think of golden showers...and minors recieving golden showers. From aliens. Okay, there's not enough room here for this comment.
That movie was SO strange it almost looked interesting. After that "golden rain" monster I would have to watch the whole thing due to the oddness of it. Thanks for sharing!!!
in the manga there was no singing shown and almost all scenes were full of killing.
