@tramejora4 since america wasn't discovered during roman times, we can't tell (however i reckon the romans would beat the native americans and aztecs) and they didn't beat the scottish however they did beat the celts inhabiting modern day england, so yeah....

I say it because the Romans may train hard, but they will never beat us eaven in a sword fight(Fact:most romans would just charge head on and not have any tactics or stragity except for stabbing and slashing which was a basic tactic by roman standards). We knew fencing and the U.S. calvary knows sword fighting as well. Greetings from Captain Common Sence.

yes, in the american civil war there were swords. no, romans did not just charge without any tactics, instead of telling bullshit you should read some good books, like "the history of warfare" by hans delbrück or "the roman army" by peter connolly.

@tramejora4 You know, I don't think you know anything about strategy, if that's what you meant by "stragity." Also, stabbing and slashing is the way that you fight with a gladius. You really think that Americans are the best sword fighters? We're dealing with completely different kinds of weapons and different levels of technology. Of course the Romans will never beat us. They died over a thousand years ago. The technology was much different.

@tramejora4 Actually, the Romans did beat the British. Britain was a Roman territory for nearly 400 years, and the occupation ended only because the Romans decided to leave.

True, And they decided to leave because Germans were overrunning Gaul, the Balcans and Italy itself.

But the Roman army was, in many military historians' opinion- including this one- one of the best, and consistently so, armies ever. The US Army of today is a fine force, and finer than many Europeans tend to think, but it has nothing on the legions of Rome 270 BC to 250-ish AD. Rome faced all comers, and though sometimes beaten in the short run, ALWAYS won in the end. Until it killed itself.

@lolackay Of course, but that is comparing peas and apples. If we talk quality, the Romans have very rarely been surpassed, if we talk consistent quality no one surpassed them.

Try instead to imagine Caivs Ivlivs Caesar with NATO's forces at his disposal...
