  • One of the best I've seen of Janis..... ! Pure Gold.... Thanks for the upload.. ! Perfection.

  • YES! it WAS worth all the time that I spent!

  • i feel a bit sorry, but during the guitar solo i'm only thinking when it will finish

and Janis will start singing again...

  • one word awesome

  • how not to fall in love?

  • elle est pas rare j'ai acheté le cd collector a la fnac !

  • its a shame so many people look to singers as role models etc. this young woman had fame and money but she wasnt happy . and she died way to soon .

  • I have this footage and other footage from the VHS tape called JANIS....unfortunately, it has yet to be released on DVD. Fortunately, I have a VCR and the copy I bought in the mid 1980's is in good condition. She had heart and soul and she sang because she loved to.

  • @engine4801 amen she sang cause she loved it! no one else can sing the way she can!

  • @engine4801 It's easy to copy a VHS onto a CD. Ritz and many others can do it or you can buy your own converter.

  • Damn she was just the best I dont care what anyone has to say man!

  • She could really belt out the blues! What a voice!

  • Janis was Janis No one can come close and that is all there is.

  • poor Brittany can only dream

  • Music comes from Krishna. In today's world almost everyone tries very hard to forget this fact. That's why most music is crap today.

  • This music is exactly what music should be! Janis & her contemporaries are TRUE musicians! The real musicians (yes, there are a few) are overshadowed by over-produced candy-coated bling-covered dupes, who are only interested in the Fame. It's not the musician's fault. The public is too stupid to recognize what is REAL music. Some of us can still appreciate the great ones...[end of rant]

  • RATE JANIS?? WHAT DO YOU MEAN "RATE JANIS"? YOU CANNOT RATE TRUE SOUL, BLUES, ROCK & ROLL. THERE WILL NEVER BE ANYONE TO TAKE HER PLACE. I LOVE YOU JANIS. NO ONE TOUCHES ME LIKE YOUR SOUL LAID BARE FOR THE WORLD. WISH I COULD HAVE HAD MANY YEARS OF YOU, BUT I GUESS I'LL HAVE TO WAIT FOR HEAVEN!!!!

  • She was so amazing!

  • S E M C O M E N T A R I O !

  • quintessential Janis...this is what made Janis

  • Quelle énergie, quelle voix, quelle beauté ...

    j'ai des frissons partout !

    super vidéo

  • Tina Turner came before Joplin

  • @nolslifegren Wrong! Go away troll, isn't their a Toby Keith video looking for you?

  • @Daveparts ; Whos Toby Keith ffs ? Tina Turner was a name singer long before J Joplin ..shes better too ..as was Dusty Springfield ...Joplin had a very limited vocal range ...

  • @nolslifegren Who can think that the beauty of Music is just made of a "vocal range", it is defined by something else that could be named "Energy, SOUL, Emotion" and Janis JOPLIN had all this. It's not necessary to know if Janis is "better" or "after" Tina TURNER (I love her) or another singer, She just give "THE SHIVER" when you hear her (there is no mutch singer who can do that...) and that is the beauty of Music (excuse me for my English...)

  • parami es lo melor

  • amazing, ty

  • I agree what you said about the drugs. It is sad it did kill her and many other greats.

  • Before you had Ga Ga, Beyonce, Spears, Tina Turner...you had JOPLIN. That's all there is to it!

  • @PsychLion how did you lump Tina in with those rejects? lol She was a true performer who always give it from an authentic place. I mean I get your comment otherwise.

  • gave*

  • thanks for posting, I did fall off my chair, and cried at the same time. God, I wish I witnessed her live, would have been an amazing memory!!!!

  • The 27 Club is on everyone's mind lately... but I <3 Janis.

  • i absolutely love her singing this. janis makes me smile, no fail. cute mama.

  • CORRECTION - i meant worlds best BLUES VOCALIST

  • She was the worlds best female vocalist, she could reach as high as 7 notes in some songs, where any other vocalist could maybe reach upto 3 notes,,,when BB K ing met her and performed for the first time he stated she sounded like 2 different people singing, she was way ahead of her times & opened the door up for the female artists around the world,,janis will always be greatly missed, atleast we have her music ,her voice and some rare videos of her ! R.I.P. J.L.J WE LOVE YOU ALWAYS- 4 EVER

  • Janis could have WOWED!! Me anytime!

  • Anyone have chords, tabs or sheet music for this song?

  • Janis Joplin man = cat

Janis Joplin teenage boy = young cat

    LOL

  • This shot was taken during the festival express in 1970 in canada

  • happy Birthday, Janis!!!

  • Freaking Awesome!!!

  • Etta did it better, but surely, in a different way.:)

  • @kitt75 you may have a favorite cover but you can't compare. i've listened to both of them my whole life, have seen etta a half dozen times. she has a completely different style. personally, i like them equally. but i just love to see someone use their god given gifts to make our lives better. and both these women do that. the empower women. not enough of that anymore. bummer.

  • drugs make great stars, just like Bill Cosby loves puddin pops...

How great our music is today without abuse of every kind, - Freaks and the Kingdom -

  • PERFECT

  • I'm guessing during the festival express??

  • woah, when and where was this??

  • this is one of best song writers all time damn drugs did her well

  • beats the hell out of ke$ha and jonas brothers

  • RIP Pearl January 19, 1943 - October 4, 1970

  • mitica janis, sei sempre viva nel mio quore!

  • this is beautiful My mom went to the last concert she played before she passed and even though I was born way late. I love this music Janis will always live forever in our hearts as the passionate rocker we always knew

  • The depression was over a break up with Kris Krisstofferson. She made Pearl and did the dope and overdoesd damn shame.

  • Janis wanted to burn, at any cost. She was highly intelligent and made a choice to not dabble, but live this lifestyle. I love her music. Drugs didn't take her. She chckeed out and gave up on reality. She was deeply wounded and medicated and was no fool to the consquences and would always emphasize that what she did to deal with her pain was nobody's business; many blues singers feel this way. She was the real thing.

  • She died in 1970 peoples!!

  • what concert is this from?

  • @thekinksguy this video clip is from festival express 1970

  • Janis was the best she still finds new fans today to who her music speaks so in a way she never left and lives on

  • @pendleton42 I didnt become a fan til she was dead... it sucked to find out she was dead cuz when i discovered her i thought " I wanna party with her someday" and if not "I just wanna be in her presence for a little while"

  • @theyellowrose92 i never met her she was also dead before i heard her but i meet other artist from that time

  • HYVÄÄ ÄITIENPÄIVÄÄÄÄÄÄ!

  • tell your mama..nuff said..rip janis

  • janis sings

  • Janis i would have never let you go home alone that night God bless you

  • i must be good up there wen u die cause u dont come back and tell us wats it like lol god bless janis xxxxxxxxx

  • Or maybe it's so bad people don't want to come back to break our hearts with the bad news of what's next?

Then again, maybe there is no "there" there--and no one to come back and tell us anything.

  • janis pr toujours dans notre cœur...tu me donneras des frissons jusqu'au bout de mes jours ..merveilleuse Janis

  • luv u 4ever JJ

  • The real deal!

  • Happy Birthday Janis! Peace and Love!

  • I just wish we could have more soul !! music its not supposed to be so commercial it's not supposed to be a training act, it's supposed to be FREE!! DAMN that's what's missing nowadays!! FREEDOM IN MUSIC!

  • @miuxa It's reachable. We just need more artists to see their gifts as invaluable. but money makes people sell out quick. Its our decision, not anyone else's.

  • I love Janis too! :-) She is cool.

  • i love you janis

  • I love janis Joplin, God Bless her soul. She is a good person, another human being who just like the rest of us, make mistakes, one that cost her life. She is now my friend in music. Please take time to read her bio.

  • Big shout out. Im a native of Beaumont, Port Neches, Port Arthur!!!!! Home of Janis!!!!

  • lucky you really! :)

  • Man, can you put more heart into it!!!!!!

  • She is simply AMAZING!

  • how can one person be that beautiful?

  • Speechless...

  • wait.. is she dead?

because she seems to be full of life!

    she IS amazing!

  • hajde, javi se

  • ahhh! rock & roll!

  • Janice Joplin was and still is even in death a phenominal singer.just makes you wish she could have known what she meant to the world and could have lived longer to see just how much the world loved her.Maybe it would have made a difference and she would still be with us.

  • Love her! She is the best singer in the whole world! Rest in peace! We will never forget you!!

  • Wie genial is das denn !!

  • Thanks for posting this, it's tough finding real footage of Janis. I think she was beautiful and I think maybe James Brown and OttIs might WISH they were in her league.

  • Man, I really can't think of any other word than "electrifying". I'd put her right up there with Otis Redding or James Brown.

  • And when you get lonely, and I figure everybody does you know, because as a matter of fact every body does... CraZy shit. I love it!!

  • come amo questa donna .... (L)

  • I had only heard this song... the video is so awesome. Thanks for uploading it! Love it...

  • Gotta say I love it. She wasn't some amazing looker, but if you want to talk passion, someone that loves what they do so much, they'd do it for free. Maybe even pay to do it!!! She is the Tony Stewart of singing!!! Love it.

  • When she is singin, she's as sexy as anyone!

  • Woooooo!!! Amazing performance!

  • ¡¡canta con el cuerpo y el alma..

    te amo janis.

  • knocks me off my chair...wow!

  • oh janis (and band) u r the best thank you thank you

  • SHE's GREAT!

  • janis joplin had the most powerful voice back then, i must say she was one hell of an dam good artist i must say im a fan.

  • drugs didn't give her talent. drugs didn't make her so damn good. drugs killed her.

  • wow...thats the fucking truth right there.

    well said.

  • you should try drugs then u c

  • @wmtucker drugs didn't kill her. she left.

  • @MysticMoonGoddess67

    What.?

She died of an overdose in a hotel room in like 76' or 77' i think waiting on her man and another woman so they could have a threesome and she took to much and couldn't handle it.

  • @lovelyloveless90

    She died in 1970!!

  • @lovelyloveless90

She died in 1970! The threesome is speculative and the overdose was from taking heroin 50 times more potent than what she usually got, and wasn't told. She took the usual dose but the purity killed her. Look at Janis in the time she was in, she lived through hell as a woman and was extremely intelligent. She deserves respect on so many levels.

  • @lovelyloveless90 she did october 4th 1970

  • @wmtucker Fuck Yeah!!! she was the best and drugs took her from us

  • @wmtucker Her blues are what made her who she was as a musician and drugs were a good way to cope with them to her. No point in judging her now, or anyone else who turns to them. Deal with your own shit and let people deal with theirs.

  • @wmtucker I very sorry, but she killed herself. Nobody could force such a strong hearted woman to do anything, but herself. that was a waist of life, talent and great times. we should all learn from this.

  • @wmtucker

It's called being alone. She was so lonely. It's so sad because she was so very, very talented. There will no one ever to take her place. I was a child when she was popular. But I am hooked on her because there is no other woman that has her rare talent and never will!

  • Simply put- she was incredible!

  • There will never be another Janis Joplin.

She remains a force after all these years.

  • Queen Janis your memory and music has remained with your fans for 39 years. You left us way to soon.

  • @ronwiles1 now its 40.. and man is she groovy!!!!!!

  • sweet!

  • only person that beats elvis live

  • I love her

  • Thank You "Pearl" for making me smile!

You still are simply the best!

    Your devoted fan forever.

    Mike

  • That woman is HOT! That woman is REAL!! There's NOTHING contrived about her... she's IS the music and the music IS Janis. Her preformance isn't a performance at all, it's her life... you don't get that nowadays. No choreography just raw, earthy energy. That's Janis. F***ed up on drugs or not, she's still Janis. The pain, the pleasure, the experience, the naivety, the little girl, the sensual woman... she's everything. And she's someone to learn from because she's real. xxx

  • i agree... everything that you say tangerinejulz it's so true.. she was and we'll be always the expression of the real and great music..

    me encanta todo de ella..

  • uaauuuu o/

  • The Queen of all ROCK. This women, I wish she still lived. Where would she be today?

  • God I wish at a concert to hear this talented woman sing! Too bad she left us too soon. Where would she be today? Wow Janice you Rocked!!

  • oh my god

    oh my god

    oh my god

    this is just...WOW

  • Janis is awesome here, really in top form. But what...is with that guitarist? Surely he's the worst soloist to ever score a hit.

  • hahahahah... yeee it sounds like "too much" but well, they used 2 do that hehe... so it's kind of "part of it"...

  • shut up motherfucker!!!!!!!! jANIS IS LOVELY!!!!

  • no need to hate man. That's npt fair man, she hasn't done anything to you. Let her r.i.p . respect. if u don't appriciate certain people then don't look for them.

  • THE BEAST

  • tan bella mi Janis...

  • I love you janis

  • god just listen to her! why oh why does my generation so totally suck??

  • Cause the generation of Janis' age decided to cash in our culture for a buck

Instead of showing great music thats inspirational and insightful they show egocentrism and materialism.

Lets fix it while we can

  • Total agree =D

  • bien dicho!

  • You are so right!

  • That must have been really something to be in the audience of one of her live shows. It's a real shame that more people couldn't have experienced that feeling.... like me. I LOVE me some Janis :D

  • Don't know if someone has made this comment, but this is from 'Festival Express', July 1970 in Calgary.

  • she is so lovable in this performance

  • How anyone can watch this and not fall in love with her is beyond me, man.

  • i KNOW!

  • Janis died in the fall of my last year of high school. Jimi Hendrix died about the same time. I was in shock because these two meant so much to me. They still do after almost 29 years. It was the autumn of 1970 when they died.

  • Whoops! Lost a decade. It happens when you are over fifty.:-) It is almost 39 years since Janis and Jimi left us.

  • It must've been so shocking for all of you. Jimi died Sept. 18, 1970 and Janis followed on Oct. 4th! For two of the greatest musical icons of that time to just suddenly be gone like that. It must've just been like "What the hell is going on?!" My mom had just turned 22 that August so she was very much a part of it all. Not only that but "Blind Al" Wilson of Canned Heat also died that year. Then Jim the following July. All 27, geez.

  • Wooooooooooo I miss you mama! :-)

  • JohnnyPants320: I'm pretty sure ur right. Man, thats a cool dvd!

  • From Wikipedia: Janis Lyn Joplin (January 19, 1943 October 4, 1970) was an American singer, songwriter, and music arranger, from Port Arthur, Texas. She rose to prominence in the late 1960s as the lead singer of Big Brother and the Holding Company, and later as a solo artist. In 2004, Rolling Stone magazine ranked Joplin number 46 on its list of the 100 Greatest Artists of All Time,[1] and number 28 on its 2008 list of 100 Greatest Singers of All Time

  • No one like Janis, man! I remember hearing the news the day she died and it messed me up bad. I was 13 at the time and was really just beginning to get into her music. I had every album and now every CD as well as every biography. If anyone wants to know the real Janis, take a read of "Love,Janis" done by her sister.

  • I agree with everything you said. I would suggest however, that Scars of Sweet Paradise by Alice Echols is a more accurate portrait of Janis. Love, Janis is a fantastic book, but I think it was softer on the harder side of Janis, thereby not being as "true to life". Just my thoughts. Peace.

  • I too have read ALice Echols book. I think there are bits and pieces to the real Janis in each of the "major" books such as Myra Friedman's "Buried Alive". I think he sister's book shows some of the insecurities Janis had and how they manifested themselves. Was it soft, yes it was. But it gives more personal view of Janis by her own words.

  • I agree, reading the letters she wrote home definitely gave you a picture of Janis and her insecurities. I think that the way she wrote home highlighted her insecurities. She was always seeking her parent's approval. Therefore, her sister's understanding of Janis through those letters was softened by not only the love she had for her, but by the message Janis was intentionally trying to send home. I just think the book isn't as objective as Scars or Buried Alive, but I still loved it too! Peace.

  • Would anyone happen to know what year this performance took place?

  • This is off the "Festival express" DVD. I'm pretty sure it was 1977. Hit me with an email and I'll tell you for sure tomorrow.

  • wait a minute Janis died in '70 dumbass. To correct myself I believe it was spring or early summer of 1970. I have to dig this DVD out of storage

  • June 28, 1970 through July 4, 1970 across Canada. Peace.

  • I think it was in 1970 but Im not pretty sure!

  • does she really seem sad tortured and misled to you up there on stage...did you know her? It sounds to me you're the sad and tortured one judging people that you only look at.

  • Fantastic..

  • J'en ai les larmes aux yeux ...

    Merci pour la qualité géniale
