  • I, on the other hand, love the Puma!

Anyway, I used to play MechWarrior Mercenaries, and some of my fondest gaming moments ever were the instant action and multiplayer battles in the Colosseum map, dodging missile barrages and large lasers fire from heavy or assault battlemechs, or moving just so that the pillars and arcs block their shots...

...Then running out of cover and delivering a double PPC blast to their rear armor.

Sure, there's mechs bigger than the Puma...

    ...But not in my heart.

  • blood asp make one

  • I'm an aerospace fighter pilot and I usually go for the Uziel or Mad Cat MKII, but watching that fighter go over and roast that tank was awesome

  • all ways have and all ways will be a longbow user. if I cold start on even a fafnir your next opponent is going to have a much better time of you.

  • I didn´t really like Pumas. I prefered a well-equipped Thanatos or a heavy Fafnir with 2 clan PPCs, heavy gauss and clan gauss. Could kill most mechs in 2 shots from distance, and when they got a bit closer ( like 600m ), I shot the heavy gauss for extra damage. Worked well!

  • ITS COMING OUT ON KINECT. I CHECKED AT GAMESTOP!!!

  • @lynnandpete i think my arms will get tired if i have to hold out my arms like a timberwolf

  • put an clanner 15 - AC cannon on that thing!

    lols

it's like a one man wrecking crew

sadly you'll be putting weaker laser on it after ha

  • world of mechcraft -> epicwin :P

  • @KnockUrBack LOL xD

  • dude i remember the mechwarrior sound track music :)

  • nice i hope mw 5 is like this

  • MW5 is cancelled,where were you?

  • sigh... why is it they always cancel the promising games.

  • are you talking about the reboot (2010-IN DEVELOPPEMENT-) or mw 5(2003-CACELLED-)?

  • @Haddockxyz300 Well actually Reboot is in limbo because of the Harmony Gold cease and desist letter they delivered to Piranha Games.

  • @HachiZenki

    yhea,maybe

  • Niiice, wish i had Crysis :D

(The plane used Gauss Cannon and the mech used PPC)

  • Not sure if it's just the video, but it looks really, really choppy/laggy for some reason.

  • Video says "first mechs in action", understand : very early work, still not finished, expect bugs and glitches.

video is 14 months old, and they are just releasing beta now.

  • I hope this will have the classic Mechwarrior body part damage system and advanced customization.

  • I really cant wait for this game, as a mechwarrior fan this just gives me chills.

Favorite mech = Couldron Born (torso twist version :p).

  • yay for guass cannons!

boo for too much heat! lmao

  • As i recall, gauss cannons didnt produce that kind of blue partical beem. the ship that was attacking used the gauss cannon, but it looked like the Puma used its Partical projection cannons, or PPCs

Thats if the animations for some of the attacks were accurate in the other games aswell.

but after some research, it looked like it had pulse cannons. i cant tell if thats a pulse cannon that was showing. i was under the impression that pulse cannons were rapid fire, but it only fired once... meh

  • Hmm idk, I remember both from MW3 but I know my favorite thing to do was swap weapons around on my mechs so I couldn't honestly tell you what a Puma's default weapons were lol.

I do know however that pulse cannons are not rapid fire, they are a low energy, low damage, continuous beam of energy. whereas laser cannons pack all thier punch into a single shot, pulse cannons allow you to trace your target easier if they are moving and you don't have a lock.

  • the interresting thing about gauss canons was that they didn't produce much heat (from what I recall from Mechwarrior 2, which is obviously old... played on my 486DX4 :D).

Pulse cannons however, are energy based weapon. They deal less damaga but as mentionned : allow you to spray out a bit more, which gives you more chances to hit your target. They also create less strain on your cooling system.

Less damage, less heat, more chances to actually hit something ^^

  • @startide

    "less damage"???

why less damage...u need as much damage as possible :P

a gauss rife hardly does causes any heat but does a shit load of damage

  • It's not about what you need, it's about game balance.

Sure gauss rifles do a lot of damage and have no heat, but they are limited due to being amunition based weapons.

As such, pulse laser are less powerfull, but they are still good weapons because they have other interesting aspects I already mentioned ;)

  • "game balance"?

no, its about what you need.

why go out to some bastard with 8 ppcs on him or whatever without having what you need to COUNTER them?

IF you have good aim, and you have all weapons with limited ammo, (like you said), then you can blow that Atlas' head clean off :)

    same with the next.

a pulse laser isn't going to go up against a dude with an LBX 20 or an ULTRA AC 20 :P

just too powerful for the little dude. :P

  • Well I wonder then why they did include those lasers to begin with then ?

just make the game only with ppcs, that's much faster. Unless combined shots with 3+ PPC's will most likely shut you down the first time you pull the trigger :D

  • PPC = 6 (CL) or 7 (IS) tons and 3 slots and 15

Large Laser = 4 (CL) or 5 (IS) tons and 2 slots

Large Pulse laser = 5 (CL) or 6 (IS) tons and two slots

Depends on the mech you use the weapons with and on the situation. However every weapon has its use within the game, really everyone.

  • I even had games online with 2 friends and i was the one to carry a NARC beacon. If your allies use big rocket platforms (vulture or even bigger e.g. Yeoman or Longbow) You can take out a Daishi or the still-so-popular Gladiator in less than 20 seconds. But of course the NARC is only useful if you´re not alone

  • @MasakoXer Okay, you load up your assault mech with 3 LBX 20's, and I'll pick say...a nice quick heavy with a large pulse laser...

Have fun catching up while I tink away at your armor. :P

There's always a way to find balance using different weaponry...I quite like using banks of small or medium lasers to complement my heavy weapons. Making a lot with a little is what it's all about! :)

  • It's also strategy.

I could blast a hole in your arm that has the large pulse laser.

It also depends on what mech I put those 3 LBX 20's.

But still, you kinda proved yourself wrong.

You saying that a mech with a Heavy pulse laser could tink away at my armor. That weapon could be on a speedy light-weight mech, against a huge, slow mech with teh LBX 20's. That could kill me.

    That's an advantage.

    That's what you NEED. :)

What you said is "what you need" to get an advantage and kill me. :)

  • @MasakoXer Perhaps if you re-read my post you'll notice a few little tiny words that make most of this post redundant.

I specified, "a nice quick heavy," as in a Heavy 'mech with maxed out propulsion systems and room for one Large Pulse Laser with some heatsinks.

Also, it's silly of you to quote someone else and say it was me. This, though, was you.

"a pulse laser isn't going to go up against a dude with an LBX 20 or an ULTRA AC 20 :P

just too powerful for the little dude. :P"

  • Lol, you said it's about Game Balance, not what you need. But a little mech with a Heavy Pulse Lasers could easily take out a heavy mech with 3 LBX 20s.

That is what you need to get a huge advantage at longer distances. :P

  • Ok, Ok. Lol.

    It's just a game.

  • Funny, that's what I was thinking.

  • I think what your trying to say is that your an idiot, but dont worry, we all got that.

  • It's an early alpha build you stupid cunt. Do you know what "alpha build" even means? Jesus Christ kid, pick up a book some time in your life. Also, screaming "gay" makes you look like you're straight out of 4th grade. You probably are, but whatever. Work on that too.

  • these are not robots.

  • @mercs2warrior please explain how a program could be homosexual.

  • The planet's night sky with it's fog is beautiful! ; )

  • that was a sweat suprise attack at the end.

  • no, its an independant group of programmers making a mod for the crytek 2 engine.

    i think it is anyway.

  • yhe it is, it started out as an independent mod by 4 dedicated fans, they moved it to crytek2 when it was released as thay needed that sort of engine to take the massive sprawling maps thay intended to create.

Its been in the pipeline for years and sparked so much interest from the fans that thay now have backing from offical games developers and thay are now a team of 40 working on it! its going to be biger than Red Orchestra easy!

  • The fans always do things right.

  • @Kemonokami Fans do it for the love of the lore and the joy of having a great game, amirite? :)

  • Ay-men. And not the commercial fat cats who do it for money and nothing but.

Am I the only one who thinks "Amirite" sounds like a brand of toothpaste?

  • LOL! Or an antacid?

  • so, this is a crysis mod?

  • yeah

  • yep

  • winter 08 lol makes me laugh every time

  • T_T i cant wait for beta.... first (public) steps of the puma... its so beautifull!

  • A CALL TO TRIAL. JUSTICE BY COMBAT. mechwarrior 2 has been burned into my mind as one of the collest games and sci fi universes ever created. and i still dont have the novels. :( ( they take a lot of inspiration from dune... )

  • Is MWLL a fanmade production or a real one made from microsoft? oO i just watched this videos but ive never heared of this before

  • Crysis mod made by fans. Time filler for MW Reboot.

  • Time filler for MW reboot?? Did i missed something? Microsoft is working on a sequel of MW?

  • :D

    Type in Mechwarrior ;)

  • Not microsoft, no. The IP has changed hands!

  • sorry ^^ but either my english is bad or i dont really understand what you mean :] what do you mean with "IP has changed hands? xD i dont get it

  • yes they are lol

  • ...

Pretty sure this ISN'T "Transformers : Living Legends."

  • Yeah, alright, that's the exact definition of Transformers.

A Mech with wheels on both legs, you've just described Optimus Prime.

But to appease you, you ever watch an anime called "FLAG?"

It revolves around a military unit, and they use a big mech, that sort of crouches down, and other troops sit on top.

    Mechwarrior my friend, Mechwarrior.

    Thats massive walking tanks.

Massive walking robots that become tanks is NOT Mechwarrior.

  • If you know so much, help the mod makers REMOVE like half of the game, they have changed a lot....

I never thinked about transformers and they DO NOT have to follow mechwarriors games and they DO NOT have to do what i said...

If you mean the movie/game transformers then i were NEVER even close to it

For example whats the problem if you have a MECHWARRIOR that has huge guns but it can only fire if it stands in a position so its unable to move

  • Your obvously looking for Heavy Gear II mechs.

  • i dont like the old pumas as much as the new ones

  • This is the realism the Mechwarrior series of games needed from the beginning but was made before BFG graphics cards and PCI Express architecture could make it all possible. Its amazing to see the life of a Mechwarrior...in detail. But all that being said, why couldn't you have gotten the arm pods on the Puma correct? What the hell kind of a made up arm is that? Stick to the original design!

  • It's an omnimech. All omnimechs have 100% modular weapons. A Puma can have alllllll kinds of different arms with all kinds of different weapons. There is no "correct" arm on a Puma, just a stock version called Adder Prime.

  • He's talking about the primary pod arms for the ERPPC's that are the trade mark for the puma, I think he understands that the arms are modular.

I do have some problems with the arms as well since they are not the primary pod arms for the puma, they could do a better job to stick with the original design of the puma arms.

  • A lot of people who only know of Battletech though Mechwarrior 2,3 4, and MechAssault didn't know about the modular system, modular systems were added later to Mechwarrior 4 via mods and mechpacks. And was never in Mechassault, blame lazy game designers, as the technology to put that in a game has been around since 2004. The original Battletech was like Armored Core in a way, sorta.

  • actually earlier then that when you think about it, the first game which I recall what used stacking 3D models in groups then turned on or off was Homeworld.

  • Battle Tech was framed after Macross but no way you can say it was like armor core. Totally different styles of game-play.

Also the modular system was not all that well received until people warmed up to it with the mechpacks. Still if your gonna fire ERPPC's use the right arms. and the arms should be more-so closer to the body then spread out that far. its a light mech by its name its more compact then its heavier counterparts.

  • Yeah when I was writing it I was thinking, hmmm yeah, Armored core is rather unique on it's own actually. I'd say that your right it is more like Macross, but actually in reality when macross was acquired by Harmony Gold and became part of Robotech and in the process ripped off Battletech and FASA sued them for using their Marauder IIC mech in the cartoon without permission. I used Armored Core as an example of the modular system as it also uses it.

  • i remember that fight, also the modular system has just started to show up more and becoming a mainstream as its faster to swap out bad parts to new parts.

  • cougars and pumas of mechassault game is better looking than here

  • Notice the AMAZING sound affects! They've been takin so many pics of the IS and such so much lately that it sure is joybringing to have the first mechs in action clans =]. And they are Adders >.>

  • Puma = Adder, Adder = Puma.

  • FAPFAPFPAFAPFAPFAP

    DO WANT ;_;

  • They look more like a warthog

  • I can't believe this quote is getting thumbs down... They must not get the RvB reference. Thumbs up for you my friend

  • :) Your alright ay

  • That gave a me a serious hard on.

  • Why did Microsoft abandon their license to the FASA material, well simple, wasn't making them any money.

So technically the people making mechwarrior:legends need to update their disclaimer, wizkidz still own the rights to Dark Age(discontinued), and Age of Destruction, as well as all the new miniatures range. I'm unsure as to who owns the rights to MechWarrior Classic atm.

  • Who cares about that Dark Age bullshit, its bullshit. COmplete bullshit and Destruction is just as much bullshit. Rights to CBT are Wizkids atm and Mechwarrior game franchise is back with the original FASA studio's now called Smith and Tinker.

  • Did you bother reading the comments below this one?

  • he's just mad that they time skipped and didnt get into the WoB jihad.

At the time when they were gonna launch the WoB jihad we got attacked so the creators for battletech thought it would be in bad taste to launch that arc. So doing a time skip was in the best interest of the series staying alive even though Dark Age virtually killed the book series single handily and almost killed the table top series.

  • True. However they did cover the events leading up to it in MechAssault games, and I don't care if people didn't like them, sorry to all those fanboys who loved to custom tune their mechs. Only 2 things I didn't like about the game was how they named the variants after the IS and clan names, and how they didn't have weapon pods, still used generic models for all the variants. But then again it was an arcade shooter targeted to non-Battle tech fans in a vain attempt to revamp the franchise.

  • that was just a fraction and remember you could only do so much in a shooter. Also MechAssault was non-cannon it was a spin off that only dabbled in some of the aspects of the story. It was virtually rip the 'mech's from the MW series and add a stupid combat system with a odd story that didnt fit.

dont get me started on Mech Assault 2. if a battle suit were to do all that crap the Clans would be able to grab terra easily.

  • Technically, it's a non-profit mod so nobody cares anyway.

  • Smith & Tinker have been very quite and secretive for the past 3 years, but are currently hunting for a marketing Director and community support personal, which gives us a slight indication they may unleash a bombshell this coming E3 or release sudden trailers for something later this year. If they are working on another FASA based game or coming up with something of their own it's unknown, but their very studious at keeping it quite... guess they don't let employees families in the building.

  • Ah, I'd do anything to be back in the cockpit of a Fafnir....

  • Wow man, I can honestly say im pumped for this, been a huge mech fan since MW2, so you have my support for sure, and good luck to you! Looking great so far!

  • Well done on the sound effects!

  • Makes me so happy to know Mech Warrior will continue

  • Me too, cant wait to play it, i really enjoy MW games (includin Mechcommander :D ) MechWarrior will always be one of the greatest games out of there ^^

  • @Bbdrew

    Nope.

    This is a "solo" Project.

    A crysis mod.

  • Beautiful work, keep it up!

  • not even that a kitfox has a gauss in one of its configs

  • plzz get this mod up i rather dislike the original crysis and as a mechwarrior fan it would be awsome 2 have a new game btw love puma's the thought of a gauss in a light mech insane

  • Puma's are ment to have PPC's not Gauss Rifles. Sorry for the correction.

  • in mech 4 i know pumas ment 2 have ppc but in mec 4 merc it was omni so u could fit a gauss on it

  • right, i just pulled up my old mech collection and i see it. thanks, i also posted this before i noticed their weapon customization system they have been working on. I am looking forward for it.

  • Yeah, but MW:LL includes customizable weapon pod mount systems.

  • is this mwll new mech warrior?

  • Sort of. It's a mod for Crysis. Certainly looks a lot like a professional MW game though - can't wait!

  • It's a mod for Crysis, but it has been given permission from microsoft to use the proper mechwarrior intellectual property.

  • MS sold the IP to smith and tinker many months ago...

  • Microsoft is still the owner of the property, smith and tinker licensed the use of them.

  • I'm pretty sure that microsoft doesn't own battletech

  • No, wizkids owned FASA, but Microsoft did own FASA Studios (FASA interactive), which owned the rights to produce the crimson skies series of video games and the mechwarrior series of video games. So you are right in that battletech as a whole isn't owned by microsoft, but they do own the rights to publish any video game about mechwarrior.

  • I thought all those were now owned by smith & tinker?

  • Yes, they owned the rights to them since a couple of months after founding. "Smith & Tinker is pleased to announce that it has licensed from Microsoft the electronic entertainment rights for Mr. Weisman's previous creations of MechWarrior, Shadowrun, Crimson Skies and the other properties of the FASA catalog. We're not quite ready to announce our plans for each property, but please be assured that our goal is to surprise and delight old fans, while welcoming new fans to these fantastic worlds.

  • Great work man:) I see that You're a real fan of Mechwarriors. Keep up the great work! 6/5!

  • No i think that it looks great, im looking forward to the multiplayer. aghh i cant wait

  • Very very good job guys! keep it up! :D

  • Dude you have to remember this is an alpha build and not critisise until the final game is ready and to be perfectly honest, i doubt you could do any better

  • the critisism is good to make that game better. so go for it.

  • Does anybody know anything about these guys CANCELLING the mw5 project for the PC? I'm hearing they're only bringing it up for the -box. Please comply.

  • I know this has already been responded to in the official forums, but I thought I'd clarify it here for any youtubers.

This is not MW5. This is a mod for Crysis, a PC-only game, so MWLL is PC-Only too. It will be free.

  • wat Kaldskryke said.

in addition, wat the hell do u mean by "please comply"? comply with wat?

  • It was the last sentece spoken in the Mechwarrior2 Into. And yea, it's on You-Tube if ya want to check it out, it's pretty cool.

  • lol 'Please comply' is legendary quote from MW2 intro.

  • "alpha assault this is HQ what is your situation pleeaase comply!"

  • That takes me back

  • they do look like they slip a tiny bit... but great job overall...

  • Looks like it will totally kick some serious ass. I can hardly wait!!!!

  • thank you :D i've been waiting for a video of the mechs actually animated in this mod.

  • Looks amazing, Winter can't come too soon!

  • Wow that looks awesome. Can't wait to play it.

  • I think you should add a virtual cockpit like in flight simulator X and change the computer's voice

  • Looks good! Just need to sort the leg animation with regards to how it connects to the ground. For example look at MW3 & 4 (more 3 than 4) see how the feet stick to the ground and dont move like they are slipping.

  • Yay! The shut down sequence from MW3.

  • the Adders' arms are off center
