  • I remember a statement a session-guitar player told about gigging with the great Mr. James Gadson, he stated that Mr. Gadson had timing like a metronome. That perfect timing is displayed in this clip.

  • To think Mr Gadson is 70 years of age in this clip, and still keeping time like a clock...

  • Man that's deep.

  • Vehicle!

    Good 'ole James!!!

    Better than ever!

  • My definition of a good drummer is someone who can go into a studio record songs in one take playing it perfectly in time no mistakes. The late great Yogi Horton said a lot of guys have great chops but not all of them can cut a record. Thats where the skill lies going to the studio and cutting a record. No weaving groves. James Gadson can do that. Its nice to have chops but the most important is the time.

  • Great post. It's a pleasure hearing and seeing Mr. James Gadson play. YouTube is inundated with drummers showing off every chance they get. Here, Mr. Gadson, is playing music - plus, he's playing one of his own hits. Great post!

  • Well - I think I found the drummer who played on Dyke Blazer's 'Shotgun Slim' -

Someone has a great ear and a great mind to have showcased this drummer.

It is a blessing every time we are able to see a human being, for whom, what he does, is what he loves to do. You almost have to work a bit to pull out the goodness of this drumming, because it is so utterly where it is supposed to be, right in the music, right with the music, supporting the whole, in no way out shining, fr w/in the joy comes..
