  • The cars at the back will suck into your ass, if they can't see the back cover spoiler ?

  • I have heard that if you drop the tailgate you get better aerodynamics and better fuel economy, but also it messes up the sides of the box and they become loose. is it true?

  • I haven't heard of that. Not experienced it on any of our trucks over the years. Perhaps off road it might be an issue.

  • Guess having a wing like above tying the two sides together would be a good solution.

  • i cant belive you actually sold this truck... WHY?

  • Its for sale on ebay, how did you know?

  • BUT WHY ARE YOU SELLLING IT . ps i know you in real life you told me you sold it WHY?!?!?! :(

  • The truck has served its purpose for being used as a design platform for my cylinder deactivation, power tailgate, exhaust cutouts, electric fans controller, etc., among other inventions. Too many toys. I am in a phase of restoring several of my motorcycles right now.

  • and craisglist thats what you told me, but yea man i give you 19,000 because i know you go to fast in it :D

  • I am reluctantly asking $25,000.

  • Ooo, a power tailgate. thats the coolest thing i have ever seen!!!

  • it looks good to me!

  • its cool but i wish it could open a little faster

  • Haven't you read the above comments?

It improves aerodynamics which translates into more mileage on the road, or more speed on the track, and it creates a down force on the rear end for stability; see other JSC video's for demonstrations.

  • what does openeing the tail gate do when ur racing or when ur driving

  • Having the tailgate down would only be good for drag racing. It puts more downforce on the rear end which makes it so you have less tire spin when you launch.

  • Yes it improved my Lightning ET & mph at Carlesbad when put in only the spoiler position, automatically when staging. It was a sneaky way to open it against the rules there. It obviously helps two fold on the open track where I race (search 2 vids here), applying downforce when in the spoiler position and improving areo.

  • I agree with Mythbusters and the fully open tailgate. Improvements occur when the gate is in a "spoiler position". See our video #1 for an illustration of the changing airflow when the streamers start to flip backwards while opening is about the best mileage position.

  • Can you speed up the mechanism?

  • Thats easy, I just step on the gas.

Reducing the moment arm by lowering the mounting point would accomplish this, would also increase the already heavy load.

  • Hey Droptail! It's Kevan from the VTCOA. I love this little thing!

If you add an EZ-Lift torsion bar, you'll trim about 60% of the weight of the tailgate....making it easier on the actuator (and probably quicker).

  • Hey Kevan,

I've seen you on VTCOA. Haven't been there in a little while, been spending time on my CBX bike. Yes, I experimented with the spring and I knock off 3-4 secs on the closing time, (opening time increases about the same). I've sold these to a few SRT-10's, one RC in AZ with the auto mode.

  • you gotta be kidding me

  • No, I wouldn't do that. See it here on the track (search JSC #17 & #18) pulling alot of fancy sports cars.
