  • How come the marquee dissappears every time you make a selection?

  • Do you have any guideline for choosing the gradient colors relative to the flat color?

  • uhmmm.. sir, what's the color code for the skin? i can't seem to get the right feel for the skin... Thanks

  • Great tutorial, always wondered how this technique was done too. Just wondering why you use the pen tool and the lasso with antialiasing off. Wouldn't it be cleaner using the brush and AA on, or is there a technical/printing reason for using it that way?

  • Hello,

Well my gradients look like crap. Instead of looking like a "gradient" they just look like spots or blobs. Can you tell me more details about how you are using the gradient tool and all of the settings??? Are you using the "radial" setting throughout the whole thing???

  • Awesome, I've always wondered how this style was done. Wanted to try it out to try new approaches. The problem is, wouldn't using the selection tool still leave jaggy edges even when using a tablet? or would you need to be quicker with the strokes to keep the jaggys down? I use a tablet but haven't really explored the manual selections because of the jaggy experiences.

  • @obscenesAINT the selections with the tablet will only be as smooth as you an draw them. One thing you can do is mix freehand lasso selections with stitched selections. The main thing is to play with it and figure out what works best for you. Use this tutorial as a jumping off point and then make the style your own.

  • Thank you so much! This really clears the whole comic colouring mystery up for me.

  • Would the pen table give a better and smoother effect on cut style? Got no wacom yet. Be buying soon...Thanks

  • @fredpac Yes, the tablet will help you all around. It'll help you to make smoother cuts and also help to make smoother shading with the various brush tools. I'd recommend getting the most expensive pad you can afford. If you can only afford a Bamboo, then get that with the intention of upgrading to a better pad. There is a little bit of a learning curve with the tablet, after you get used to it, you won't ever go back.

  • Hi,

That's great and it helped me a lot seeing this. Thanks!!!

  • So is the pen tablet works better on that to achieve a smoother cut effects?
