@paisleyyama. The idea was that ideological differences are the cause of many of the world's conflicts, and that anything which can be done to help bring about a consensus of understanding amongst us should be encouraged. I think some of the speakers at the conference (particularly Schwartz) also felt that the active resistance they face from the some of the materialist scientific community has hampered their ability to do research, and should be considered an issue of international importance.
Why would this be discussed at the UN? I think it is an interesting and important subject, but not a topic I would consider to be under the authority of the UN. Why would UN want information on this? What does the UN plan on doing with this UN? It seems like a topic for the medical, religious, psychological, personal, etc. communities but not the political.
@paisleyyama: I agree, this is important stuff. I'm guessing they discussed it here for publicity reasons. The more attention they draw to this subject the better.
Yes! Dr. Greyson is saying JUST EXACTLY what I argue constantly regarding the difference between Newtonian physics and quantum mechanics, and how we create reality on the quantum level. That makes me feel VERY validated! I researched this subject after my grandmother died; I needed to know if her bright light had gone out forever. I couldn't blindly accept the God of organized religion, particularly as He is characterized in the Bible (my main point of reference). Anyway, smiling here... :)
It is only a bad scientist that rejects data because they don't fit his theory. A good scientist recognizes that the most exciting data are those that do not fit his existing theories, because understanding these data can lead to new and better theory. A true scientist is not afraid to be a pioneer.

I am interested also in the topic of God, but it is good that this clip, at least for now, has not yet been littered by comments about deity(ies).
