Because Laurent Brancowitz of Phoenix was in a band with Thomas Bangalter anf G-M de Homem-Christo called Darlin, which was labelled "Daft Punk" in a Melody Maker review. Bangalter and de Homem-Christo formed Daft Punk and Brancowitz formed Phoenix. I thought a Phoenix fan like you knew that..
