Well, I've bought a new Rhodes Mark and I'm VERY DESAPPOINTED !!!!!! My dream became a Nightmare ! Over n° 51 B note, sound is perfect : i can feel the hammer and notes get "Brillance" exellent metallic sound. But under n° 51 B note, sound is not good AT ALL; exactly like simple synthetiser. VERY DESAPPOINTED! A SHAME !!! "
It's plain to hear this is not a mk'7. That's not the point. The new Rhodes would benefit using better sounding tines. It's just to clanky. I am sure they thought the stronger tines are better but they are just to thin and clanky sounding in person. After 50 years we still get the shrill clanky tines. Something is not right. Get wamer toned tines in there!
@TheSongsparrow its not just the tines. its the hammers - we use special hard rubber tips nowadays but back when your thinking they used to use felt covered wooden teardrops, like in acoustic pianos.
the old ones had the nice warm bell like tone, the new ones have a louder, harder, sharper tone with alot of "bark" - so many people love that bark that they have gone with whats popular and its cheaper too.
mainly they just cant get the same blend of metals in the tines, they dont know how.
More and more and people are hearing how awfull the upper range of these new pianos sound. It's the sound of a spray paint can being rattled. Not enough warmth in the tines used in this piano. No eq adjustment is going to make up for the shrill sounding tines. Sorry, but a classic model restored is better.

@TheSongsparrow Hi TheSongsparrow, I appreciate very much constructive criticism.
